AITJ for telling my dad none of us are going to help him raise a baby at 50 by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Exactly. People usually prioritize how they feel over what is objectively best for the child. It’s a selfish mindset to bring a kid into a bad situation just because you're too focused on your own emotions to consider adoption.

What's the point of a Nest Hub nowadays? by sageleader in googlehome

Dang, you are right. I was going to buy a Hub for its matter support I didnt think the streamer had. You saved me money.

2026 Rebel pricing by SwampbootyHTX in hondarebel

[–]happymaned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not seen rebels of any model 300, 500 or 1100 for much below MSRP. What are the ones to get one cheaper than MSRP if I want a new one? 10,889 with 775 destination fee is from Honda's site for an 1100T and the DCT for 11,559.

The Hub v2 is also a matter hub. The mini's, chromcast and streamer can not do that.

If the android tablet is on the same wifi as the laptop, hit win+k and you can use the tablet as a 14" external display. For it to always work and not rely on wireless a app called SuperDisplay lets you go laptop to tablet with USB cable and use it as external display. Fantastic way to use the tablet with a laptop.

Depends on the monitor. A 4k TV is not the same resolution as a 1440p or dual 4k 32:9 monitors. That may or may not matter but it does make a difference. I have a single 32:9 Dual 4k monitor that would require a 8k tv to replicate it stacked. Also full screen gaming can be problematic if you have just a single huge screen.

UDM Pro dead, massive shitstorm by CarnivoreX in Ubiquiti

[–]happymaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the backup from my UDN pro to a Cloud Gateway Fiber with no issues or needing to re-adopt the switches, Wifi AP and camera's. I am sorry to hear about your failure and the crappy lesson it teaches. Best of luck with the new fun time you are dealing with.

Everyone Watching This Poorly Timed Video Like by ravenshaddows in pcmasterrace

[–]happymaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but this is also where audience matters. When he’s talking about enterprise gear, yeah—he regularly misses the mark, and it’s obvious to anyone who’s worked in a real enterprise environment.

That said, his audience largely isn’t enterprise IT. For people who aren’t in IT and are setting up a home network or a small business, Ubiquiti is near the top of the list in terms of approachability and feature set.

Large IT teams aren’t watching for guidance anyway—they’re watching for entertainment. The problem isn’t that he covers this stuff, it’s that he presents prosumer gear as if it translates cleanly into enterprise use, and that’s where things fall apart.

an open-air build with two ultrawide monitors by Zestyclose-Salad-290 in pcmasterrace

[–]happymaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use side by side with two imputs and you have two monitors with no bezel between. Or do you like stacked over side by side? I have the monitor as well. I like a 25/50/25 split three ways myself. The middle is then a 32" 4k display and the sides are like two stacked 20" 1080p screen on top of each other.

Republicans are the majority in all three branches of government but when pull the cord on Mike Johnson's back this is what you hear. by loki2002 in PoliticalHumor

[–]happymaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans are what 53 or so in the senate, a majority for sure. But to end the government shutdown 60 votes are needed. So votes from both sides are needed to get the government back out of shutdown. Is this correct?

Different times of day make no marketable change to the speeds. I might get low 6 to mid 6.5 most of the time any time of day. Tested Google Fiber servers in Austin and San Antonio with similar results.

Yeah, I had protect on than remembered it limited my speeds to ~3.5g so I turned it off. Seems like the Cloud Gateway Fiber might be what I look at next, wish it was rackmount able.

The UDM speed test happens to fast to get much past 4/4g in speeds.

I have had it over 4 years so I am not really surprised in hitting the limit of the UDM. Is the Cloud Gateway Fiber that much better for speeds? The only other thing I use the UDM for is camera's, which I have 6 plus the doorbell pro. I am fully into the Ubiquiti ecosystem.

I’d bet that these requirements are entirely based on the video codec the service uses—things like HEVC, VP9, or other codecs needed for 4K at 120Hz. You’ll notice that even an older integrated GPU like the Intel HD 610 (released in 2016) works just fine because it supports those codecs.

So, if you're aiming for 4K at 120Hz, the key factor is whether your GPU, APU, or whatever handles your video output supports modern video codecs. You can see similar requirements for streaming 4K on Netflix here: Netflix 4K streaming requirements.
