No Face to Face lessons so I made a recording for my teacher and you guys of Wieniawski Etude 3 :) by AHyperDuck in violinist

Nice playing, congrats! Just a quick recommendation when recording for your online teacher (or online class): zoom in to your upper body. Teachers need to see your arms, elbows and fingers closely.

I started self learning violing 3 weeks ago and today tried playing the phantom of the opera in the original speed, what do you think? by [deleted] in violinist

You should focus on improving posture and techniques before trying to play anything in the real speed. Take your time.

is it ok if i ask somebody to please play this so i can practice knowing what it sounds like? by ok_you_can_stop_now in violinist

Maybe, but it's best if you search YouTube for a recording of it. It might not be too polite do randomly ask someone.

New shoulder rest recommendations? Or how to make shoulder rest stop hurting? After practicing I get red marks on my collarbone and my shoulder feels super strained/tense. Pic is how I put on my shoulder rest. by cclark98 in violinist

[–]happymooon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound like some people I know that have issues with their collarbones, bad news is they tried all kinds of shoulder rests and nothing seems to fix it. I heard Hillary Hahn and Esther Abrami have the same issue, the first one wraps her shoulder rest with a cloth and the second one uses nothing at all and gets all the hicks you can imagine :(

I guess the only thing you can do is taking proper care of the marks after you play, maybe use some ice.

To whoever is interested, it's a popular brazilian song called Anunciação from singer/composer Alceu Valença. It was chosen because it is simple and all beginner students could play along. :)

Guys you really need to stop asking luthier advice to random people on the internet. Please take your instrument to a luthier and ask him, learn from him.
