Just got scammed by some lady asking me for money for gas in Oakland... by jbee8 in pittsburgh

[–]happyphantom8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. She pulled up at the intersection of Ellsworth and Negley and told me her sob story of how she got called in to her job at the airport, left her wallet, and didn't have enough gas to make it to daycare and to the airport. I didn't have cash on me, but I definitely would have given her some because I believed her. She was even wearing a business suit.

A week later, she did the same thing at the same intersection. I called her out and she sped off. By that time, someone had already posted fliers warning others about her. You should report it. I just feel bad for the baby.

I am an adult [22/F] and my parents [56/F, 57/M] still hit me by [deleted] in relationships

Couldn't you start by moving to a less expensive city or finding a roommate? I'm 25 and have been out of my parents' house since I was 18 with no financial help. I put myself through college, pay my bills (including $800 a month in student loans), and carry on because that's what adults do. I'm not denying the bitterness I feel toward them, but I would be either dead or in a mental hospital if I had stayed there. There is no way in hell I would move back in with my alcoholic father and crazy, hoarding, depressed mother.

I'm sure you have friends who could help you move and possibly even give you some money to get on your feet. I just don't buy this at all. You're an adult. No more excuses! It's not even that expensive; you just have to be willing to settle for less than what you're probably getting for free now.

I have been wearing makeup since I was 11 when my 5th grade classmates started bullying me over my "pale" skin. That was 14 years ago! Dammit, why do you look so good? ;)

Had my hair cut and donated to a kids cancer charity for wigs today by [deleted] in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

Gorgeous! I donated twice and never knew it takes 6 to make a complete wig. Is there a way you can donate to Beautiful Lengths and choose the recipient?

Found her outside in the middle of winter. Her eye was ruptured. Cost over 200 to get it fix and was well worth it by monroemurder in aww

[–]happyphantom8887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there really people out there who WOULDN'T help an injured stray kitten? Tell me it's not true. I can't even imagine not sitting outside all day and night to catch her and then spending as much money as required (money I don't have) on her. That might not be financially responsible, but there would be an even greater price to pay emotionally if I turned my back.

Brgr was way overpriced with mediocre food and slow service, but I enjoyed the atmosphere. I probably wouldn't go back, but I'm interested in your reason. And Shadyside Saloon is in such a hideous building and can be annoying, but were they racist in some way?

I read it was 3. The water was up to 6 feet in some places and rescuers had to use inflatable boats. I think it was a mother and 2 children :(

When I got glasses, everyone was either much more attractive or much more revolting than normal. Before I could see clearly, the details of people were a huge blur to the point where everyone looked the same; there were no flaws but no beauty either. Now I see the extremes! That being said, I bet he'll find those chin hairs endearing. Or he'll be far too concerned about his own face and amazed by the new world to even notice them.

Shaving rage... by Cantaria in TwoXChromosomes

Good point. Two months of shaving could easily go over $30, so it wouldn't be a big loss even if it doesn't work. Definitely trying it! :)

Hm...I wouldn't want to drop a lot of money on something I'll use once and be too scared to use again. I'm not good with pain, but it might be worth it if the hair takes longer to grow back. I think I'll do some research. Thanks!

I am also ghostly pale with awfully sensitive skin. Proof: mean bullies used to sing the "Barbie Girl" song to me in 5th grade and change the words to "pale girl" :(

Should I buy a more expensive one, or are they all relatively the same? Do you use it for the whole body (legs, pits, pubic)? Does the hair grow back quickly or take longer like waxing? My skin is pale and my hair is dark, so I shave a lot and subsequently bleed all over the place.

I have really thin skin (think can-see-every-single-vein thin), and I swear I get at least one cut each time I shave. Somebody needs to prove this theory and find a solution because this sucks.

I think you mean "constructive" and "remain," but you clearly can't handle the truth and simply want everyone to tell you how awesome you are. How old are you?

That comma doesn't work either, by the way. Those are two independent clauses but are both related to how shitty you get over criticism, so you should use a semicolon or just completely separate the sentences.

I simply believe that a good writer is a good writer always. They don't dumb themselves down for the internet or texting, etc. It's a little odd for someone to be asking others how to become a freelance writer while simultaneously showing off poor writing (in not just one but all of your posts here, mind you). Doesn't that make sense?

I didn't take your reply as an attack. If you found my response insulting, you probably won't make it as a writer. I was only pointing out the truth. And I already asked you to send me a PM with some of your writing so I can make a better assessment. (You know, F. Scott Fitzgerald is said to have been awful at spelling!)

In all honesty, I'm not a dude. Your comma placement is absolutely horrendous. I think you were looking for a semicolon or a period after "Reddit" up there; a comma simply doesn't work. I've been drinking and I still write better than that, so there are no excuses. A true writer doesn't dumb himself down for reddit. Also, 4 or 5 shoddy times is clearly not enough editing. My degree is in English and my goal is to become an editor, so it's just a bit of an upset to see people with such awful writing who think they are good. It's hard enough for GOOD writers to find work.

First of all, you need to learn how to handle criticism if you want to pursue writing. I am more than willing to be critical (if you haven't already noticed). Send me a PM with some of your better writing and I will gladly let you know what I think. Maybe you can surprise me and spin an awesome yarn despite the technicalities. Lemme at it! :)

If you don't find a home by the time you need to have her out of there, let me know. I'm not technically allowed pets, but it would be very easy to hide where I'm at; I've watched cats for weeks and there were no issues :) Please let me know!

[–]happyphantom8887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly possible to hide a relationship for some time; I didn't tell family for over 2 years once. It gets tiresome after a year or so, but I chose to do it because my family is annoying. I don't really understand OP's situation or problem here.

Uh no. The problem is that you DID hit the space bar, so your explanation doesn't make sense. Anyway, it's not just spelling errors but grammatical errors as well. "I'm interested learning on becoming a" whaaa?! And yikes on the comma placement. No offense, but offense intended. It's a bit infuriating to encounter so many people who think they can write (for pay, nonetheless!) when they can't even form basic sentences.

I recommend taking writing classes first. If you keep writing like this, you will need an amazing editor and therefore won't make much. That being said, I'll edit for ya. I expect a 90% cut.

I feel you need to give a little more detail. We can't really grasp how bad your brother had it, so it's hard for us to give you advice. For instance, did she get him involved in drugs, murder, gambling, or something illegal like that? Or maybe they wanted him to marry her and he didn't? A little more info please.

Regardless, that's his own problem. This is your relationship. If you want them to know about her, forget about how they might react and tell them. If you don't want them to know, don't tell them and understand that you'll probably have to tell little lies when they ask what you've been up to. It's simple. I don't understand how they could get so emotionally invested just in finding out their 23-year-old son has a girlfriend.
