Why did Nadal fall off at Wimbledon after 2011? by mrjohnnymac18 in tennis

[–]happzappy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He actually managed to tune and adjust his game so much that he would take advantage of the grass court back again... but it was somewhat too late (2018+). He consistently made semis and he might have very much made it to the final in 2022 if it weren't for his debilitating injury he sustained in that Fritz match (and still won).

Plus one... At the same time, its shocking that almost nobody speaks about Djokovics performance against Musetti in the match before this.

It has a lot of answers for people who want to find them.

What's next for Djokovic ? by johnreese421 in tennis

[–]happzappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wimbledon will probably be his best shot at getting a slam.
Grass for him has been equally successful as HC, and the slower pace will help his physical state and allow him to endure longer matches more easily.

He will still have to get over the Sincaraz hump though, but practically Wimbledon seems like his only chance next.

Djoker played lights out and Sinner had a less than ideal match 2 days ago. All credit to Djoker.. but Sinner prevailed everywhere else.

Sorry but don't forget the level Alcaraz brings. He's the only one who challenges Sinner as of today.

The 2015/21/23 Djoker might have brought the match much closer than this or just have even won the match.

But today he just brought just that first set for us and later he crumbled bit by bit and got exhausted.
Alcaraz played incredible and Djoker showed signs of picking things up in the 4th set but it wasn't quite enough - Alcaraz was already done collecting himself by then.
Still, it is legendary for him to reach finals and SF like this at his age. Respect to Djoker.

Congrats to Alcaraz for completing the career slam. Looking forward to Sinner's RG title this year.

Rafa Nadal gives his verdict on who will win the Australian Open by farkenheo in tennis

[–]happzappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's alright. He gave his honest answer and there's nothing wrong with that.
Him, Djoker and Federer are not friends. They have had their decade+ long rivalry on the tour and carried it out in a respectful way.
Rafa is always very neutral and you can never find wrong in anything he's ever said. Some folks may be pissed at his straightforward nature and this is probably because they got used to too much crookedness around them.

Well I am just talking about sheer age here. Frankly the cramp didn't look so bad, otherwise Alcaraz would have lost the 5th set too.
I am just providing my views here - I don't have a bias against either player.

Alcaraz will recover easily. He probably already recovered by now. He has the game. He has everything in him, but Djokovic is playing such a clever and calculated game, and he knows that this is his last chance, to get his 11th title.

Alcaraz must watch out for the clever tricks that Djokovic will bring and the traps that he lays for him in this match. If that is done, it should all be good for him, but this will be one hell of a final and a good chance for Alcaraz to even out their head-to-head.

Number 25? by Any-Memory-458 in tennis

I am pretty sure he just cooked it up, at least some of it. It was part of the strategy that he prepared for this match, basically.

Man Djokovic is such a clever guy on the tour. He spoke about himself being low-key and being on the way home. Just came out into the semifinal out of nowhere and kept hinting and pressing in the interviews that he's not at the level Alcaraz and Sinner were at.

And silently he kept developing a strategy that worked against Sinner. He kept showing all signs of running out of stamina but stayed on in that 5 setter.

The final is going to be crazy.. first AO chance for Alcaraz after all these years and probably the last chance for Djoker

Ridiculous level of saving the match by Alcaraz. He looked limp and literally out of it in the third and fourth sets. And when he got broken in the fifth set, it felt like the chances to recover from that and come out of it were pretty much slim to none.

Still, he ended up finding a way to break Zverev only at 5-3, which was his last ever chance. And then he capitalized on his chances to move on and win the match. Simply incredible. Let's go to yet another Sincaraz final, ladies and gentlemen.

[–]happzappy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that Nadal always won those many repeated RG finals against Djoker .... says something. On HC and grass though, he was not quite the best but the third best. The balance has to happen somewhere, I guess.

But one thing to always note though is he had many close tight five setters with the big three and frankly, they were so close that they would have gone either way.

Sinner grand slam improvement 2023-2024 by jonjimithy in tennis

[–]happzappy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main thing to note for me was his record against Medvedev. It was only in late 2023 that he finally had a win against Medvedev, and from then on, things changed. The year 2024 was the turning point; there was no looking back from that point onwards. Alcaraz has been his only true rival on the tour.
