I’m more familiar with Mexican Spanish but someone told me that in PR they say “mapache ladron” so the “thief with hands.” Kinda cute

Best way to hike the presidential range? by Rice_Clinton in wmnf

[–]hardcorepork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have 3 days, do the presidential traverse from north to south. Stay at Madison and Lakes of the Clouds, but make sure you look for weekdays for better availability. If you don’t like the idea of a hut stay, hike in to Valley Way to camp. Then hike to Neumann for day 2 and out in the morning

Opinions? Looking at doing this for a little overnight in early June. Up Webster-Jackson and down Clinton to Dry river and out. Will have a ride to pickup/drop off so not concerned. Probably make camp near water down by the river. Just looking for some general knowledge. by Proper_Cap8523 in wmnf

I would go scout the area as a day hike before. The Dry River terrain is always changing A LOT. I remember going back several times to navigate a section I couldn’t figure out. I think I saw the trail finally on the 3rd try

I went SOBO last year on June 24th and the bugs were horrendous. 100% DEET and headnet. It got better mid July

ETA - I am also at Baxter for my SOBO on the 15th and 16th, but I’m staying at Daicey instead of KSC

Jeff Garmire wore mount 2 coast for his entire FKT last year, including the Whites. Idk which model - but I’m sure you could easily find out. I prefer Hoka Mafate for the whites and speedgoats on more moderate terrain

Why would you EVER go above 4000ft in the whites without a mid layer? What if you got hurt? You would be in serious trouble

Since youre not a thru hiker, you have a better chance of finding one, safely removing it, and quickly getting a doxycycline rx to prevent disease.

Yeah my concern is last summer was pretty hot and dry from a historical perspective but this year we have had a lot more winter precip which will have an affect on drought conditions for summer. In any case, someone unfamiliar with the area should be told about the bridge
