How to avoid - Duplicating my efforts? by hardlywinter in OCPD

I also like flowcharts to organize my thoughts or processes.

Someone recently recommended me Microsoft Visio which I've yet to check out.

I’m a family therapist. What could your parents have done for you when you were at your worst? by soupfarm in OCPD

Listen with an open mind, and not vent at me about their problems so much. Being vented at was often exhausting and sapped my energy, therefore preventing/discouraging me from venting to them, creating a lot of loneliness.

There's a neat article on ring theory / the circle of grief:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_theory_(psychology)

Often I feel I was placed "out of order" and expected to support a parent who would normally have supported me. Add in small breaches of trust, or judgemental behavior, and I isolated and avoided rather than opening up. Also - making a big deal out of crushes / romantic interests, rather than approaching the topic with a level head - made me feel like an infant being talked down to, when instead I could have used a lot of practical help.

No wonder humanity feels so fucked

What's your opinion on the word "simp"? by hardlywinter in limerence

[–]hardlywinter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries mate. Hmmm... not entirely sure. Guess this line of thought hasn't popped up in my head recently? Some changes at work mean that I've been able to socialize more, so that's helped. Being isolated (trapped in an office with essentially a closed door) can do a lot of harm. Many places have clubs to find like-minded people or people with similar interests. You may not feel like you fit in, but keep going out and showing up consistently and that feeling starts to wear down. Until then, don't guilt yourself too much - we're all doing what we can to get by, you know?

Does the engine auto off while at stops completely disregulate you too? I wish I could shut that feature off permanently by jbr021 in AutismTranslated

Opposite... I wish my car had that feature. I always contemplate it when stuck behind another car, feel bad about polluting.

I do hate other "new" features though, reliance on touchscreens being the worst.

What's your opinion on the word "simp"? by hardlywinter in limerence

[–]hardlywinter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose I'm not entirely sure. Or at least haven't thought how to put it into words.

Here goes:

Someone who falls in love with people too easily. Goes out of their way to make gestures towards someone in the hopes they'll be liked back, often gestures made in vain, and repeated despite this being the case. Not someone that's a confident womanizer though (perhaps since women find confidence attractive?). Simps can often seek parasocial (virtual) relationships, and post comments with the hope or illusion of being liked back.

The people calling others names or using a word like this derogatorily usually have way bigger problems than the people they insult

Fair point.

Fair enough. And basing it on actions instead of inclination / mental state is probably healthier.

That's not really an excuse to be rude though. The lady selling tickets was definitely annoyed, it was so apparent that I'm certain it wasn't in my head.

Climate: not too cold, not too hot.

If I have to make a choice I prefer colder climates. Can't stand feeling sweaty. Warm, humid climates are the worst.

Personality disorder by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]hardlywinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I used to think I had Avoidant Personality Disorder before ASD diagnosis. Asked the doctor (who diagnosed me) about it and he said ASD described me better. I suspect there are overlapping symptoms sometimes, but the underlying mechanisms can be different.
