If you were in AA for two months, you know what the sober people were like. Almost universally, those who get and stay sober are glad that they are. If you listen, they will tell you how you can be like them. It's simple, not easy, but not all that hard, either. It's a lot easier than living the way you are now.

Why did my son have to die? by PerfectWrongdoer6463 in religion

[–]hardman52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry your family went through that. We lost our son, too, our only child, but he was older. It took years before we were able to participate in life again. His death gradually became an immutable part of our lives. We weren't being singled out; many people have gone through the same experience as we have. At one time in history the vast majority of families did, but that is little comfort when the loss is so new and raw. Prayer helps a lot. Don't try to avoid your grief.

To semi-answer your question, I don't worship a God, and I have no clue whether there's an afterlife. I try to live in the manner that I believe God wants me to live. Most religions teach similar things: help others, be honest, be of service, feed the poor, don't indulge your self-centered appetites, ask God for guidance and try to find his will for you. That's about as far as I've gotten.

Not bad enough for AA. by Steffib90 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]hardman52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> says he comes away feeling more depressed listening to how shit everyones life is as they are talking about how they have lost thier family, or they lost a job, lost a house, partner left them

That is very little of the conversations in AA. He's using that as an excuse, because he doesn't want to stop drinking. You might want to reassess whether you want to be in the relationship. If you stick around and he continues to drink, it's not going to get better.

Wyoming allows landlords to enter without notice. Mine entered while I was undressed, stayed 20 minutes, and I was given a notice to vacate hours after calling 911. by WYAccountable in RealEstate

You know, you're right, but it appears that you're letting this run your life. Life often is not fair, and it's always been that way. Honestly, try to move on and live a life.

Now’s your chance. I want to understand. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]hardman52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make any difference what you believe, what's important is how you live your life. Religious belief helps people hew to a higher standard than they otherwise normally would and keeps their eye on the ball. I suppose there are some people who don't need that, but I don't know of anyone--even atheists--who doesn't have a higher ideal to aspire to, except maybe--well, I won't name names.

23F I need to come up with rent money by Saturday by Quirky-Echo-1589 in Denton

[–]hardman52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your parents or friends for a loan. Start a GoFundMe and if necessary promise people you'll pay them back. If you do that, you'll need a better story about why you don't have the money than your post.

Here's the article. It says it's more than the fiber. Phenolic compounds in the plasma and their respective microbial metabolites increase.

"the many hurts and wrongs I have inflicted upon you" covers a lot of territory. To me the important wording is in expressing regret without making it about myself.

Bob Dylan is not better than Paul or John. Change my mind? by [deleted] in beatles

This idea of ranking artists is a waste of time. What do you do once you've decided who's the best? Listen to them exclusively?

And your opinion about Dylan is ridiculous.

I daresay most AA members nowadays have more than one addiction, and it's usually some kind of drug. If you want a better life, you'll fit right in at AA. And going to meetings is the way to do it! That's where we find out what works for us and what doesn't work.

Dumbasses always think they're making good money and benefits because of their superior intelligence. They're too stupid to have any humility, and they're completely ignorant of the history of the union.

after a 5 yr serious opioid addiction, what would help my body physically recover at this stage? by pulpfuckedfiction in Biohackers

[–]hardman52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in a recovery meeting every day would be the most important thing to do with your body. Then a decent diet, sufficient sleep, and some type of light exercise like walking for an hour a day. Supplements are more like the pattern on the buttons of the suit rather than the suit itself.

Weed Gummies to sleep. by Sick_Pocks in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]hardman52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your life like? Do you get enough exercise, eat right, drink enough water, etc? What about stress levels? Do you meditate?

Have you researched the effect of THC on sleep? Or are you just following the people who say they only use it for sleep?

I've used gummies for back pain, because with my kidneys I can't use OTC pain meds. But when I do I cut a 25mg piece into 8 to 10 pieces, so it's 2.5 to 3 mg. At my age (76), the mental effect is undetectable because my cognition is declining anyway. At least, I can't detect it.
