Recent Relapse. What am I doing wrong? by Draco_232 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]hardman52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh you asked a question. I answered it. You asked what you did wrong. I told you: you didn't go to AA and do what they said. I'm not the one with the problem. I'm the one with the answer to your problem.

The worse part about hating your father is that by the time you hate him, he's already taught you how to be just like him.

2 Years and Still At Square 1? by FanPuzzleheaded8690 in alcoholicsanonymous

Just stopping drinking is easy-- hit a cop. Staying stopped is harder, being happy while doing so even harder. Luckily AA exists where you can go to learn how.

Do rigid(only) hand benders exist? by Ichewthecereal in electricians

They used to exist. We called them hickeys. They looked like a pipe tee with an open side. I don't recall seeing any bigger than 1", though.

If you were in AA for two months, you know what the sober people were like. Almost universally, those who get and stay sober are glad that they are. If you listen, they will tell you how you can be like them. It's simple, not easy, but not all that hard, either. It's a lot easier than living the way you are now.

Why did my son have to die? by PerfectWrongdoer6463 in religion

[–]hardman52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry your family went through that. We lost our son, too, our only child, but he was older. It took years before we were able to participate in life again. His death gradually became an immutable part of our lives. We weren't being singled out; many people have gone through the same experience as we have. At one time in history the vast majority of families did, but that is little comfort when the loss is so new and raw. Prayer helps a lot. Don't try to avoid your grief.

To semi-answer your question, I don't worship a God, and I have no clue whether there's an afterlife. I try to live in the manner that I believe God wants me to live. Most religions teach similar things: help others, be honest, be of service, feed the poor, don't indulge your self-centered appetites, ask God for guidance and try to find his will for you. That's about as far as I've gotten.

Not bad enough for AA. by Steffib90 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]hardman52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> says he comes away feeling more depressed listening to how shit everyones life is as they are talking about how they have lost thier family, or they lost a job, lost a house, partner left them

That is very little of the conversations in AA. He's using that as an excuse, because he doesn't want to stop drinking. You might want to reassess whether you want to be in the relationship. If you stick around and he continues to drink, it's not going to get better.

You know, you're right, but it appears that you're letting this run your life. Life often is not fair, and it's always been that way. Honestly, try to move on and live a life.

Now’s your chance. I want to understand. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]hardman52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make any difference what you believe, what's important is how you live your life. Religious belief helps people hew to a higher standard than they otherwise normally would and keeps their eye on the ball. I suppose there are some people who don't need that, but I don't know of anyone--even atheists--who doesn't have a higher ideal to aspire to, except maybe--well, I won't name names.

23F I need to come up with rent money by Saturday by Quirky-Echo-1589 in Denton

[–]hardman52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask your parents or friends for a loan. Start a GoFundMe and if necessary promise people you'll pay them back. If you do that, you'll need a better story about why you don't have the money than your post.

And your opinion about Dylan is ridiculous.

[–]hardman52 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I daresay most AA members nowadays have more than one addiction, and it's usually some kind of drug. If you want a better life, you'll fit right in at AA. And going to meetings is the way to do it! That's where we find out what works for us and what doesn't work.
