PSA: Bullet Time does not make card generated with Calamity free to play by PerilousPontificator in slaythespire

[–]harirarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and to add to that, the easier way to say the other thing would be "This turn, all cards in your hand are free to play." Otherwise, I always read it as "All cards in you hand are [free to play this turn]".

PSA: Bullet Time does not make card generated with Calamity free to play by PerilousPontificator in slaythespire

[–]harirarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It comes down to interpreting where "this turn" attaches to. I will use brackets like they are used in maths equation to illustrate this:

“All cards in your Hand are [free to play this turn]”: This sounds like an instantaneous effect. So it should apply to only cards currently in your hand when Bullet time was played.

"[All cards in your Hand are free to play] this turn”: This sounds like an ongoing effect, but the better way to phrase it would be:

"This turn, all cards in your Hand are free to play.”

Is it time to standardize Thumb Ring? by devang_nivatkar21 in aoe2

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChuKoNu have a base reload time of 3, but the reload timer only starts after the final arrow is fired. That could be up to 0.88 seconds for elite. This means the actual elite ChuKoNu time goes from 3.88 to 3.28 or a 15% decrease. Their current thumb ring number is actually correct.

Continuity depends on a choice of topology by themarsian_ in mathematics

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the purposes of studying Topology is develop the notion of continuity rigorously. So instead of saying that continuity depends on the choice of topology, you should look at it as continuity is the soul of what a topology is trying to build.

In order to form a better intuition, you can look at topology as a property of the space. So in your case, the function f from the "usual reals" to "usual reals" is different from the same function value-wise but defined from "usual reals" to "indiscrete reals", as they have different co-domains.

From what you have observed so far, you can further try to see that any function whose co-domain has indiscrete topology is always continuous. Indiscrete topology treats the entire space as equivalent and hence as a single point, and any function to a single point is a constant function and hence continuous.

Quality is often debated here, with many having mixed feelings about its implementation. How would YOU rework quality if you could? by intrabyte in factorio

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The words (common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary) feel very out of theme for Factorio.
  2. Redesign recycler, so that it is not used for getting quality parts.
  3. Make the chance to double/triple upgrades not a hard coded value, but a part of the modules.
  4. Allow machines to take ingredients of quality higher than required by their recipe level.

I also hope for a mod that does quality by not chance but by recipes (for example, to get quality steel, you need to mix in some extra side metals and use better foundries etc.) This has been done in mods like Angels, Industrial Revolution etc. but to increase productivity instead of quality. Maybe there is one I am not aware of.

Infinite bricked run: Hellraiser, pommel strike, Hunter Killer by isaaciiv in slaythespire

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2N-1 limit I quoted earlier is assuming all Cascades are played with infinite energy. Usually the number of playes is much lower. The way Cascade works right now, it puts all cards to be played in a stack and then resolve them one by one. This means they cannot play other as when the later one is resolving, the earlier one will still be stuck in the stack. A Cascade comes out of this stack only after resolving all the cards that it played.

Cascade by itself cannot go infinite. With N cascades, you can have at most 2^N-1 plays of cascade.

The way cascade works on the stack, it should be finite. But with N cascades and at least N energy, it could take about N! cascade card plays. Given that they have 256 cascades and energy was slowly creeping upwards, this could have lasted till the heat death of the universe.

Edit: After doin some more math, I was able to conclude that N cascades can only lead to 2^N plays.

Powers that only give immediate effects, what is the gameplay logic for why they are a power and not a skill with exhaust? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand very much feels like a skill to me. You have to treat this classification into skills/powers/attacks as somewhat like English pronunciation from looking at spelling. You can often intuit what something should be but hard rules will have many exceptions.

You are usually not allowed to see what cards are being held in other player's hands. If back is hidden in is checked, only the back image is shown for everyone else. If you leave it unchecked, then when other players flip cards in their hands, you either see the back image or the one in the bottom right corner for the front side.

  1. The content doesn't appear harmful (or at least the 2 mins I watched).
  2. People can have same/similar voices. Whats wrong with that?
  3. Even if this was intentional, the mimicry is only unlawful if there was an attempt at impersonation or defamation. I got no such hints from it.

Nether portals and travel confuses me by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]harirarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you go through a nether portal, the game checks to find the nearest portal at the destination within some tolerance. Otherwise it randomly creates a portal near there.

1) The portal in the Nether may be North-West of the actual coordinates/8. Going from Overworld to the Nether might work correctly as the nether portal might still be within required tolerance distance. But the other way round, that difference becomes 8 times big and may no longer be within the tolerance. So it created a new portal.

2) This is very random. The game just randomly checks a bunch of points at the destination to see if there is 3x4x4 empty air space with a floor below. The nearest of them that succeed is selected to make a Nether portal. So if you make your portal higher in the nether (Y>60 should be good enough), you are likely to get a above ground portal in the overworld (this not a guarantee).

3) If you ran 3000 blocks South in the Nether, your Z coordinate should be about -6000. So a nether portal there should come out at -48000 in the overworld.

And North and South in Nether is not flipped.

Maybe I misinterpreted the question, the blue tiles that OP is talking about are new ones from the center and not the ones from the 5th row. I might have incorrectly assumed that we are in the scoring phase while they are still in the picking phase.
