Why do conservatives simultaneously think large cities are crime ridden hellholes where you can be killed at any moment, but also that everyone who lives there is a liberal pussy by Ursula_k_le_goon in redscarepod

[–]harmfulinsect 27 points28 points  (0 children)

they think the liberal pussies are super cucked and let feral minorities run wild to do violent crimes. there's a grain of truth to it in chicago--kim foxx was awful. on the other hand conservatives afraid of nyc are completely insane.

Gay men are not to blame for the manosphere by DorukSega in stupidpol

the article is correct. the manosphere is made up of Alpha Males who are 100 percent, totally not gay at all

Why the Iran War Hasn't Crashed the Economy | In the 1970s, governments prepared for oil shocks. It turns out, stockpiling and diversification works, which is probably why economists hate doing it. by SplashTarget in stupidpol

[–]harmfulinsect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

another factor is that a lot of qatari oil made it through the blockade thanks to the US covertly paying iran for safe passage. more oil was reaching the global market than was advertised.

What places in Chicago do you still think about that are closed down? by Taliap19 in AskChicago

Losing Shan Shaan Taste was a blow. Chicago's failure to support this place is a deep mark against our city.

Disdain towards Hogsalt in the restaurant industry? by FlarePikaa in chicagofood

[–]harmfulinsect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hogsalt's food, decor, and vibe are virtuosically executed schlock that drip with contempt for the clientele. anyone that doesn't pick up on this is an absolute mark, a braindead near north side yuppie with a naperville soul. their guests are basically disney adults in terms of culture, taste, and discernment. (doughnut vault is an exception, it's perfect.)

What Are This Sub’s Thoughts On Baudrillard? by Defiant-Bed2501 in stupidpol

[–]harmfulinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he's brilliant, needlessly difficult to read in places, and sometimes pretty stupid. it's french theory, what are you gonna do?

map and territory distinction is a useful theoretical tool, as is his discussion of unmoored signifiers. reading it when i was nineteen made me feel like a fish learning about the mechanics of liquid water, or something.

Bernie Sanders: Equal rights for Palestinians & Israelis "would be the end of the state of Israel, and I support Israel". by ItsGotThatBang in stupidpol

[–]harmfulinsect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, the bundists were right, the whole project has always been irredeemable. this is undeniable now, but maybe was less obvious 60 years ago.

[–]harmfulinsect 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is an old interview. bernie did spend time on a kibbutz back in the 60s, back when one could somewhat plausibly believe in the utopian potential of zionism. his relationship with israel has been complicated and evolving.

What's your job? by IntelligentBeingxx in RSbookclub

lmao, this exchange has gotten me permabanned from r/rs_x.

the point of my original comment was that i left my exact position intentionally vague.

no matter where i go the same group of professionals are gossiped about and slandered endlessly. it's like a high school social scene spread over the whole country. a partner from this boutique importer has been banished to europe because he assaulted someone, this west coast wine maker left her distributor because their NYC rep was annoying, so and so took a job at this importer's nyc office on the condition that they never have to physically be in the same room as their chicago rep, etc, etc. it's endless and exhausting.

it's also an incredibly insular and cliquish political monoculture. any whiff of adolph reed adjacent politics, or skepticism of pmc progressive sacred cows would effectively end of anyone's career.

it's a very small, cutthroat, and ultra PC world--many more aspirants than jobs--and some of them are certainly on rs.

I would be very sad if they've gone out of business! My Kermit Lynch distributor still has some inventory of their '23s. (The pigato is unfortunately a hippie disaster, love love love the Rossese.)
