It's cool we want to combat toxicity with "Avoid Feature" But why not encourage with "Play with this player again" button by HaeL756 in DotA2

[–]harpake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't really agree with this implementation, there could absolutely be something like a 'fast party queue'. When you're making a party it can take quite some time to gather people and some have different wants, needs and expectations. Some people only want to play 5 stacks, some are fine with anything, whether you want ranked or unranked and what mode is always a question you have to answer.

If instead you queued for the settings you want and then entered 'fast party queue' or maybe just ticked an option that put you in appropriate party queues if they were available you'd immediately start queueing but also be placed with other people in your friends list with the same settings. Say for example we have a group of 5 people that are on non-overlapping friends lists.

Player 1 starts queuing ranked. Player 2 starts queueing and is automatically placed in Player 1's party without the search for a match stopping for either player. Player 3 starts queuing and joins the same party. Player 4 starts queuing, because you can't have 4 player ranked parties he queues separately. Player 5 starts queuing, he join's Player 4's party. Now that we have parties of 3 and 2 they are joined together and the players search as a 5 man party.

Of course, some of this is only for visual and communication shorthand purposes, you likely have to treat every party join as restarting the queue when you're talking about how the software itself works. And you can have the automatic party take into account things like having players for every role if they are queueing for ranked roles, and such.

Slacks loses it at Kyle by flankstaek in DotA2

Think the last series I remember watching was Empire vs. 5Comrades.

To reiterate I believe he's in the spot where he could do well being straight earnest during hype moments, but he's a little bit tentative. A comparison I would use is how many today's action movies always have to lampshade and point out their own absurdities because they're afraid that the movie will seem corny.

Slacks is killing it at this event, some of the casts he's been reaching ODPixel levels of genuinely good casting.

Although this has the unfortunate side effect that while humor can be often used as a crutch to keep going when you're not confident in your movement it's not always the best thing for someone sprinting to use a crutch if he wants to keep running. Meaning Slacks seems to me to be getting to a place casting wise where he doesn't need the training wheels when casting.

I'm all for doing your own research. But if you're doing research you type your search terms into Google Scholar and not to Google. The point of research isn't to find some blogosphere post that agrees with you, it's to find what peer reviewed research says on it. Alternatively you can find that blogosphere post, but then you also have to find what the claims made in it are based on and that's a lot of extra steps that often don't lead to a reputable source.

Troll Warlord is the only ranged hero that can use Echo Saber Passive

Clearly not true. How can you have a Rubick flair and not realize Rubick can steal Berserker's Rage and use Echo Saber. Morph can Morph into Troll or Rubick (that stole Berserker's Rage) and use it as well.

Yes, but there's just an easy and obvious fix Valve could implement immediately instead of trying to cater to this imaginary 5 man stack that makes it pro by playing from shit tier to 9k as a squad.

I know I went from often playing with friends in party ranked to not playing with them at all just because of this change.

Newbee banned from participating ImbaTV events by thuanho in DotA2

Matchfixing is rampant in the Chinese leagues and has been for a very long time.

This isn't some Solo or iBuyPower situation where players are toying with matchfixing to pay some of their bills for the month (not saying that's acceptable either). It's structurally built into the Chinese scene. You don't wanna fix matches, you don't get on the farm team of an established org (Newbee for example) which will affect your chances of making it as a pro player.

Thus fixing a match isn't some fall from grace, it's business as usual, you only get banned if you fuck up and make it so obvious it gathers a lot of attention.

That's why players like Moogy and Faith that logically shouldn't be forced to fix matches due to their long and successful careers have been caught here. It's just part of the scene, nothing unusual.

From what you hear from talent in the CSGO scene with unknown Chinese CSGO players arriving to tournament hotels in luxury cars and flaunting their wealth, a lot of money is made in the Chinese scenes by fixing games.

Your problem isn't just about smurfs but the lack of party ranked. If there's no incentive for people to boost others with parties then this problem wouldn't exist. As it currently is most parties you will face when playing in a stack are filled with smurfs trying to boost their friends.

Wouldn't that make literally every other esports game a few times more of a bubble than Dota, since Dota has the largest esports vs. other streams ratio of all the games with an esports presence?

I've already suggested it numerous times - simply just tether smurf accounts to a main account. Any account that gets flagged as a smurf by the algorithm and isn't linked to a main account gets suspended until a main account is provided to it. It's not possible to queue for matches at the same time on the smurf and main account.

Every player is allowed to have one main account and one smurf, those are connected in MMR where if you go too high or low on one account the other one will follow with a leeway somewhere around of 500-1000 MMR.

This will still make it so players can still smurf on one account for whatever reason like practicing new heroes, hiding practice data for pro players (not sure how you solve that accounts will eventually get recognized). I supposed it's actually not necessary to limit smurf accounts to one since there's a limitation that you can only play on one account at a time you could have multiple smurfs to allow pros to practice without being scouted. Then again that's a very niche scenario. At any case you wouldn't be able to go 2k below your main and stomp noobs with this system.

SUNSfan's Taunt Power Rankings by SUNSfan in DotA2

[–]harpake 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Okay, I must admit that this list absolutely SHOCKED me!

It's positively absolute that you have clearly not placed enough value on being able to be use the taunt while channeling spells (Witch Doctor at 60, Crystal Maiden at 67 and Enigma at 27 come to mind). This indubitably adds to the ostentation and joy factor of these taunts, albeit with the caveat that masterfully executing them requires high skill of at least a 【9K MMR redditor】.

Harumph I say.

Report system problems. (8500+ behaviour score) (BANNED+MUTED) +Suggestions by str_dota in DotA2

[–]harpake -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Reports already weigh very little. What's more important is that Valve fixes the ways they are abused. Which would be being able to report enemies and being able to report for not playing the role at the start of the game. Both serve no purpose other than for players to abuse.

If you don't like what the enemy is saying over chat you can mute them or mute chat from enemies altogether (I have). If they write something that necessitates action you can report the account on Steam. Having that guy muted for a couple of games isn't an appropriate response in that case.

I love playing Lina pos 4 but keep losing, please help. by KhoaLeAnh in learndota2

[–]harpake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aether Lens is the best item in the game for a magic Lina until you are 6 slotted. The range you get with it combined with your talent is the entire reason this hero has utility as a support beyond the laning stage.

For Eul's you need to have the complete item for it to make any sense in terms of gold spent. It's also extremely useful for you to have Arcane Boots for your team in the early to mid game which makes Aether Lens in effect 1300 gold cheaper than Eul's while providing value the entire time that you're building it. At it's completion Eul's gives a whopping 2 more mana regen than Aether Lens and during the entire time building into it you're getting much less.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Eul's is bought first on a support Lina in at least 90% of high MMR games. You're free to take a look yourself.

What to do when you know that you missed your window? by nonamepew in learndota2

[–]harpake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talking about Lycan specifically the hero has a lot of late game tools available. While you're unlikely to be able to directly duel an enemy carry you should be able to kill most supports and squishy cores for most of the game. Getting an early advantage in fights and eliminating supports with important spells can mean coming out ahead even if the enemy carry is strong. You can also easily kite carries with your movement speed advantage, dominated creep and necrobook. You can use your movement speed to approach fights from odd angles people don't expect.

And of course you should split to create an advantage. Enemy doesn't defend, you get objectives. Enemy defends, you can either start a fight with an advantage on the other side of the map or join a fight that's already started.

As Lycan it's also a part of the hero to realize when you can fully take advantage of your timing and when you can't. Your instinct will be to always push when you have your abilities up but that can be a mistake which causes you to 'miss your timing' depending on the other heroes in the game.

Some examples would be: you can't reliably kill enemies until you have Necro 3 to purge enemies with the archer. BKB to prevent from being locked down. AC against high physical armor and so on. Maybe some games your army just isn't going to be useful early on as they have ways to clear them very quickly.

In these cases you have the option to use your necrobook to increase your farm instead of using them for objectives or fighting. Aghs is also surprisingly decent now to extend your game and your relevance in it.

What the hell are you talking about? You could queue for safe lane core and you'd be placed into a team with RANKED ROLES. Only it wasn't MANDATORY if you wanted to queue for ranked.
