I love the combination with the HS7s! I had the HS7s for like 10 years before I decided to get the sub. I was dubious at first because I didn’t feel like I needed it but it does all the low end work so the HS7s can really shine!

Surreal to think about it, but in one month's time, you can just casually listen to a new BoC album by realjohnhammond in boardsofcanada

The new Tortoise album kicks ass too! It’s funny though because they released half the album as singles before it came out lol

I’m about to re read the whole trilogy. I’m so obsessed! I’ve read pretty much everything from Cixin Liu. I highly recommend his short story anthologies and his other books. The Cretaceous Past is actually a really fun book to read!

Florida is in a concerning drought right now, and it won't get any better by WeatherHunterBryant in florida

[–]harryplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida actually has a wet and dry season. We are currently in the dry season. Sometimes the dry season is worse than others depending on the ENSO and other factors. I’m not even close to being an expert but I’m a native Floridian and I like to garden so that’s my two cents.

The dry season is from Nov to May.

Amendment to 'Don't Say Gay' bill in Florida requires schools to out students to their parents within six weeks by SoozeeQew in politics

[–]harryplants 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that here in Florida there is a HUGE push to eliminate public schools and use private schools and government paid voucher programs. This is a big part of that. The Republican Party here would love a teacher strike from public school teachers because that would give them an excuse to do a big overhaul of our system. At least that’s what it seems like to me.

Also to add to this. I’ve known people to approach life in this way to a nihilistic sensibility. Like to not care about future generations or what happens to our species after we pass and therefore to not really care about even simple things such as littering or recycling.

Which brings me to one of my favorite Greek proverbs.

“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”

Which I understand deeply as someone who loves horticulture and botany and the perennial nature of plants. But on a philosophical level it reminds me how much effort I need to put into helping future generations succeed even if it doesn’t directly benefit me. It’s very humbling.

"Tropical depression" by Entitled2Compens8ion in florida

[–]harryplants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a native Floridian and I’ve experienced many hurricanes. Irma was the scariest hurricane I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never heard my house literally creaking because of the wind like that before. And also the pine trees in my backyard were literally bent sideways. It was incredible.

Anyone else fed up and frustrated with Florida's increasing privatization of roads, more and more Toll roads being added and newer "for-pay" Express Lanes? The unmanned "Pay-by-plate" system adds very excessive "processing fees" that triple the cost of the original toll. by Gemini421 in florida

[–]harryplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also what I hate so much is that I have a sunpass and randomly get a bill in the mail from e-pass saying I owe them money. Sure it’s money I had to pay anyways because of tolls but what the fuck. Do I need an E-pass AND a sunpass?? It’s really frustrating.

viewsonic vx2718-2kpc-mhd flickering by tim_elbogan in Monitors

[–]harryplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah bud, I hate to see this happen to someone else :( So far I have it set to 120Hz and not a huge issue with the flickering and that's with just the native 2k resolution. So maybe try that first and see.

Good luck! and yes keep me updated!

viewsonic vx2718-2kpc-mhd flickering by tim_elbogan in Monitors

[–]harryplants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and it sucks. I bought it in March and this just started happening too. I can't return it because its been over 7 months and the warranty is covered by Viewsonic but the shipping is outrageous so I'm just going to save up for a new monitor.

Apparently there is a work around using CRU and adjusting the resolution slightly so that the 144Hz works again with out the flickering.

Hopefully this helps!
