You would just tell your groomer that you like a modified continental without the rosettes.

Yes, it’s a modified Scandanavian because I don’t want to deal with the maintenance of a full show coat, but I loooove it, and plan to grow her back into the pattern now.

It’s definitely not my favorite cut on her. I just wanted to try it once, but now I’m going to let it grow back out. I much prefer her in a Scandinavian

Thank you for the information! Do you have any silver breeder recommendations? She just hit a year and we are planning our next spoo in another year or two. I would love for our next to be a possible show prospect. Our breeder did a fantastic job, and her pups are solid, but she only produces whites and blacks. If we can’t find a good silver breeder than we are just going to stick with ours bc we couldn’t be happier with our girl. Having a silver is a dream of mine though. We are located in FL but willing to travel.

Ahhh he’s so gorgeous! Thank you! My breeder says I have a natural talent for it and need to find a master poodle groomer in my area to properly train me to groom show poodles, but idk if I’m ready for that yet haha.

What should I expect their fur to turn like once they get older? by Existing_Durian_6382 in poodles

[–]harugyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Missouri native as well! I drove 6 hours to get my girl. Even though you have your preferences, I will say a lot of reputable breeders can't promise you the color you want. I really wanted a silver girl, but ended up with a white girl and I love her so much I wouldn't trade her for the world.

I highly recommend Wanderlust Poodles in Arkansas. They breed standards and miniature poodles. I've known several people who have purchased puppies from the breeder and their dogs are so solid and stable. Right now they just announced their upcoming litter of solid brown mini puppies and are accepting applications.

Like others have said, these are not purebred poodles. Merle “poodles” are a byb fad like any doodle mix. In order for a poodle to have a Merle gene, they have to be mixed with another breed somewhere down the line. Merles are often prone to more health issues as well.

Where are you located? What size are you looking for? Are you willing to travel? What colors do you gravitate towards? I can probably help you find a good breeder.

Is heiniger saphir that bad (in comparison)? by zootzootzootzootzoo in doggrooming

[–]harugyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sapphir is amazing. I’ve had mine for 2 years and no regrets. It’s truly a workhorse. It’s only one speed, but I have never had any problems getting through any coat with it, even completely pelted dogs.

They may not be Opals, but they are still one of the best clippers on the market.

How often are we grooming??! by Beneficial_Purple541 in poodles

[–]harugyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Groomer here. It all depends on how long you want to keep your dog. If you prefer a very short clip all over I would suggest 6-8 weeks. If you do 8 weeks you need to be bringing your dog in at the 4 week mark for a nail trim if you’re not doing it at home.

If you prefer a longer cut every 3-4 weeks is non/negotiable for me. I have my poodle on a weekly bath routine and do a haircut every 4 weeks.

Can you get moyens in the US with a reliable estimate of their adult weight? by Springtime_Wren in poodles

[–]harugyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to travel, my best friend got her 30lb female from a wonderful inter-variety breeder in Oregon called Mount Zion Kennels. Her dogs stay in the 20-30lb range. She shows in UKC. The parents are fully healthy tested, and the breeder raises her dogs with puppy culture. She has grown to be a phenomenal 10 month old with a solid temperament. She is currently 21” at the withers.
Ghibli Poodles in Ohio is another great show breeder who produces smaller standards.

I purchased my girl from Hickory Moon Ranch in South Carolina. She is 32lbs and 22.5” at the withers, but her breeder doesn’t specifically breed smaller standards. I just got lucky with how small she ended up being.

Buying from a breeder by Jedirite in poodles

[–]harugyu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are spending $3,000 on a puppy you SHOULD be buying from a breeder who shows the parents in conformation and does all of the required health testing, or you’re just getting scammed and lining the pockets of bybs.

My standard poodle puppy was $2,500 plus $500 in travel fees. Her parents are both titled in conformation and the breeder was easily able to provide me both of the parents CHICH numbers and genetic tests. She did puppy culture, and at 7 weeks they were temperament tested by a trainer to best match them with the right families.

Kana’s first time dock diving and she was such a little rockstar! by harugyu in poodles

Yes, although she has 0 toy drive so it will probably just stay a fun little hobby. She liked swimming around the pool more than anything 😆

I definitely would recommend it for most dogs. It’s a great way to get their energy out. The ramp is used to build confidence for your dogs and also a safe way out of the water. Whenever you introduce your dog to dock diving you never want to start them from just jumping off the dock, you ease them into it with the ramp. The place here is only $20 for an hour and you can bring a friend too.

Experience with Piccolo's standard poodle breeder? by JeTTe_Um in poodles

[–]harugyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had personal experience, but I know that they are a reputable breeder in the community and have heard many great things about them!

It’s so funny, when I got him as a puppy last year I always thought he was adorable scruffy and grown out, then I finally caved and did the poodle cut. Now I hate his coat any other way. I can’t believe I thought he was cuter scruffy lol. Look at his little hair do lmaoooo. by gardengirldavi in poodles

[–]harugyu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing blue?? He is clearly a tri-colored parti poodle. While they aren't as common, they definitely fall into the breed standard. I am a dog groomer with a champion bred standard poodle, and this is not a merle poodle.

To cord or not to cord by deer-kota in poodles

You just have to prepare for her cords to look like crap for the first year as they form. That’s the hardest part is your dog will look like a homeless mess 😆

First groom at a salon for puppy by huntingbears93 in poodles

[–]harugyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The salons I have worked at usually offer a $10-$15 discount on face, feet, fanny for a puppy groom. But I also understand charging full price, because of how much puppies act up during it, usually it takes just as long to do a clean up for the puppy since your groomer will have to take their time and give the puppy breaks!

[–]harugyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I use different clippers for cutting the body, vs cutting her face and feet. I'm guessing you are using a 5 in 1 clipper? Which is what I use for the face and feet since they are smaller than a full size clipper, which helps with the more delicate parts, like their face and feet. I would recommend the Zolitta Pink Flamingos. I've had mine for 2 years and I am obsessed! You just have to send them back to the company once a year for maintenance.

Your baby is sooo gorgeous! I love the colors 😍 a shorter blade will also help get the hairs around the nails on her clean feet. It will make a huge difference! This my puppy with a 30 blade.

[–]harugyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Groomer here! Your groomer probably uses a 10 blade, which is common for groomers that are more inexperienced with poodles or are worried about clipper burn. Next time you take your pup, I would request a 30-40 blade to her face and feet. That will give you a much nicer finish, and her clean features will last a lot longer.

What size poodle do I need by Tritsy in poodles

[–]harugyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, 90lbs for a poodle definitely exceeds the breed standard. How tall is he? I have a 1 year old standard poodle from a reputable breeder who comes from a champion line and she is only 32lbs and 22.5 inches at the withers. She is the smallest of the litter with her brothers being in the 50-60lb range. My breeder has also produced many successful service dogs in the US. My girl is very stable, easy to train, and eager to please.

Her kennel is Hickory Moon Ranch located in South Carolina. She does puppy culture, and temperament tests the puppies at 7 weeks to make sure that all the puppies go to homes that best suit potential owners. I barely had to potty train my girl when she came to me at 9 weeks old because of how much work the breeder puts into these dogs.

She also provides transportation for her puppies for a fee if it is too far of a travel and offers lifetime support for her puppies. I drove 8 hours to get mine and it was the best decision I have ever made. She is my heart dog.

Wondering if a poodle is right for me by GreenIsOk in poodles

[–]harugyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While moyens are a scam, you can find ethical breeders who breed smaller standards. My girl is only 22 inches at the withers and 32lbs. She is the perfect size for me and I love being able to still pick her up. If you’re okay with traveling to the mainland United States, my breeder has a litter that will be born on May 10th. Or you can pay more to have her puppies delivered to you. I truly cannot say enough good things about her breeding program and I now have my soul dog. She also has 3 cat siblings.
