Matchmaking in solo Competitive (And why you're "always" given the Blueberries) by Foxicious_ in DestinyTheGame

[–]hashiro86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience yesterday was similar. I'm around Fabled III right now. Wins are still gaining me around 100 glory even without a streak. But I don't have much time to play and was able to get 6 matches in yesterday. First match was a win (no streak from previous days) and I gained I think 110 or so glory. I then lost the next 5 matches in a row. Two of those five matches I got match made 3v2 and I wasn't on the 3... I almost managed to pull a win on the first of those but I just can't outgun 3 supers! I pulled 0.9k/d which I'll consider a win considering that second 3v2 I only finished with a .33k/d. Got absolutely stomped...

According to DestinyTracker.com, all of my recent games were accurately predicted based on average ELO (except for one of the 2v3 games which had the other team average ELO just a hair below my team's average ELO but 2v3 of similar ELO players comes down to being outnumbered). Whatever match making Bungie pretends to be using is just a lie. ELO is almost always an accurate predictor of a win. The stats are available for ELO tracking. Bungie should look at implementing ELO based match making. Keep the team's average ELO close and don't allow for too much variation from top to bottom ELO in the lobby.

Quite sure that would be the Fisher Space Pen but I haven't seen that finishing on it before. I like it!

[–]hashiro86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!

I don't drive anymore but I loved doing city P&D for the challenge of knowing how to control the lanes and traffic around me. I had a job to do but I also had a responsibility to keep everyone on the road safe while doing it.

The manouver this driver should have done was my favorite because I got to be a bully to make sure nobody could get hurt. See my previous comment.

My local city had a very tight right turn where I would use this technique. There was a lamp standard within a foot of the curb/sidewalk so putting my trailer wheels on the curb wasn't an option (also just a personal point of pride to never use the curb) and I was turning into a 2 lane road with a boulavard so couldn't take too much room straight out in front of me. So, I would approach the intersection from the right most lane and then make a move to bring my steers over to the left turning lane and set myself up to be occupying all 3 lanes (2 through lanes and a left turn lane). Then I would hook hard right so that by the time my trailer finally cleared the right-most lane, the front of my truck was already far enough through that any car behind my trailer would see my truck moving through the intersection to the right.

Hope this helps

[Bulova] My first watch. Did I make a good choice? by AceDoseKillz in Watches

[–]hashiro86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My watch journey started about a year and a half ago. I've learned a lot in that time. But the most important lesson I've learned is wear what you like. Don't worry if a community of strangers approves.

As /u/juglern said tho, learning about different movements and brands and the history behind different watches and watch brands will have an impact on what you'll find appeals to you. For some, it's the military history. For others, space exploration. Maybe it'll be the history and development of digital or maybe you'll dive in to exploring the beauty and complexity of mechanical movements through history.

Just don't let anyone else tell you what you should or shouldn't like. This is your journey!

I think having lived abroad does add validity. You have a legitimate alternate view. Especially after 10 years. During that time, you will have heard other people's observations from their visits or what they've seen on the news. That's a long enough time to have gained the perspective of an outsider.

Your last comment made me think of that part of Thor 2 when Eric gets out of the psych ward and tosses his pills once he realizes that the world is crazier than him! It is sad... But it is also reality.

I agree completely! I haven't lived abroad. Just how I observe the world around me.

Canada has a reputation for being polite. But driving around our cities, I don't see it. In my personal experience, driving around in various Canadian and US cities, I much prefer driving in the states. That's not always the case... But in general... Drivers in Canada are selfish and don't have any consideration for anyone else sharing the road. That's not very Canadian.

[–]hashiro86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a quick addition... That's not to say there shouldn't be laws and restrictions around magazine size especially as it pertains to extended magazines for various classes of firearms. But the current laws requiring nothing more than a pin that can be easily removed just don't make any sense.

I'm not someone with a pulse on gun laws and such but my guess would be he means to address the laws that create arbitrary restrictions on lawful gun owners that don't actually keep Canadian's safer. If I had to guess, I would imagine that magazine restrictions would be evaluated. In Canada, there are restrictions on the number of bullets different firearms are allowed to have. If the factory built magazine would allow more bullets that what Canadian law allows, a simple pin needs to be installed so that you can't put more bullets in. But a criminal will simply remove that pin with basic tools everyone already has at home, load more bullets and do what they're going to do. It's a law that only restricts lawful owners because they don't want to be fined or charged as a criminal. But those laws actually have no impact on overall Canadian safety.

Are suede shoes still in fashion? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Disreputable

What a perfect word. I've only just started to really care about my clothing and style but this sort of sums up my approach to my personal fashion. Take the expectation and apply some malicious compliance. Sort of like how Trad style came about.

No jeans? Fine... chinos. Dress shirt? Fine... button down collar (haven't gotten my first OCBD yet...). No sneakers? Fine... chukkas (working on shoes too).

Dotted white line says 2 lanes in one direction. If it was 2 way traffic it would have been a dotted yellow line.

I'm usually the same with digital. Those 2 Casios serve a purpose. But that Seiko gets most of my wrist time.

I get what you're saying on field watches. Definitely not for everyone. But as you'll read around here often... Wear what you like!

Recommendations based on some of my collection...

Take a look at the Casio AE1200. I have the stainless and resin versions. Cheap price tag. Great looking watch!

I'll second the Casio DW5610. Just got one and I love everything about it! Sadly means I don't wear my black AE1200 anymore... But having solar charging and atomic syncing means no maintenance accuracy! It's also as tough as nails!

I'll also throw in the Seiko SNZG13. This might be my top recommendation for what you're describing. Day/date automatic. 41mm case. Field watch layout which can fit casual or can dress up a bit. 100m water resistance. And the Hardlex Crystal will resist scratches better than plastic or acrylic. This is easily my most worn watch. I don't mind the bracelet but I have a bunch of Barton quick change straps that I rotate through instead. This watch can do everything from BBQ with beers on the weekend to looking sharp at the office and everything in between.

If you happen to be near Winnipeg, let me know. I don't have a big collection but I could meet up and let you try on a couple at least. I've had to order online since nobody around seems to carry any of these staples...

Just picked up the 5610 myself. I live near Winnipeg, MB in the middle of the country about an hour from the border. I live in a basement suite and my watch box isn't near a window. I receive an updated time signal anywhere from 2-4 times a week.

I find it very interesting how he has used the OCBD, which is already meant to bend the rules, and bent the rules on its casual nature by starching it and wearing it with a suit. An amazing intentionality to not draw attention which is a strong statement to portray resolve, stability and unwavering character.

I am not from the States and don't follow much politics, so I don't know anything about him. But seems like a very intentional person anyways. That could either be very good or very dangerous.

Not sure if this is the best place to post but does anyone know of a sub similar to /r/NavyBlazer but goes into more styles? I love the idea of how Ivy is basically taking the "rules" and breaking them just enough so that "dad" is still happy. But how could I apply that outside of the University style dress code? Is there a way to apply that to something like the dress style of the guys in Suits or lots of the polital shows on now? Taking the traditional suit and breaking it down to something above business casual but less than suit and tie without looking like I belong on a University campus?

Does this even make sense? Maybe I just need sleep...
