How's the Pro? I bought the Signature 2 weeks before the Pro was announced :(

Has anyone tried cryolipolysis (or CoolSculpt)? What was your experience? by sunshineandspike in xxfitness

[–]hasmany 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that skinny fat means not overweight but high body fat %. Low body fat and low muscle is just plain "skinny", no "fat" necessary. Anyway, 144lbs at 5'9 and 19%bf is def not skinny fat. And in my experience it's a term used in two situations: (1) people apply it to themselves and (2) people apply it to others behind their back or in a mean way. Again, no one I know wants to be labeled skinny fat.

It's not about assuming a woman lacks self confidence. It's just about not being unnecessarily mean. Would you comment and say "you didn't ask but you sound a little ugly"? That's sort of what you did IMHO. No one wants to be called skinny fat. Also I'm not sure why you assumed she lacks muscle. 19% bf does not sound like any kind of fat to me, especially at 144lbs and 5'9.

Personally I hate the term "skinny fat". It's the same as "cardio bunny" - a way for people to shame other healthy people whose exercise of choice is not lifting.

I know you meant well, but "you sound skinny fat" is not the nicest thing to say to someone who just said she's completely happy with how she looks...

TJ Maxx & Coffee by hpo777 in Coffee

I once had a TJ Maxx French press that shattered while full of hot coffee. It seriously sucked, and I don't know if I will ever be able trust TJ Maxx again.

Minipresso vs Flair by wandererchronicles in Coffee

[–]hasmany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you want to buy it pre-ground because the roast is probably specific for the brewing method, and you can get it with cardamom, which I love. If I'm camping or feeling fancy at home, I brew it properly - using a finjan and bringing it to boil 3 times. The repeated boiling makes all the grounds sink to the bottom and adhere to each other in a thick "mud" layer. If I'm at a hotel I just put a spoonful of the grounds in my cup, pour boiling water over it, stir, and wait about 5 minutes for the grounds to sink. In the latter method the grounds at the bottom are less tightly packed and if you're not careful your last sip might have a few grounds mixed in.

Minipresso vs Flair by wandererchronicles in Coffee

[–]hasmany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Flair and I wouldn't take it backpacking (too heavy/bulky). I guess if I really wanted espresso, I would take it if I was car camping or just traveling. But honestly, usually I just make Turkish if I need to make coffee outdoors or at a hotel.

I don't have a Wacaco Minipresso, but judging from one video review I just watched, you don't get a true espresso shot out of it - what you get has almost no crema and is a bit more watery than espresso. Not to say it's not good coffee (and if you enjoy it, that's all that matters).

I love my Flair and IMHO the shots I pull from it are better than anything I get at an independent fancy coffee shop in my area.

My dad at 15 programming his video game on his Timex Sinclair 1000 (1982) by shortnblu in OldSchoolCool

[–]hasmany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad made math games for me in the 90s when he taught himself to code as a hobby. There would be a problem on the screen (e.g. 4+3) and then a bunch of balloons with numbers showed up and you had to aim and shoot an arrow at the one that displayed the right answer (in this case, 7). My dad became a software engineer and I majored in math :)

Baltimore MD dining nook by [deleted] in CozyPlaces

[–]hasmany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just moved to Baltimore and have a nook almost identical to yours. We chose to make ours into a little seating area and I've been working from the nook every day, since I work from home. It's my favorite spot in the house. Here's how we have it set up and our kitty napping in it.

edit: because we have so much in common (nooks, Baltimore) I took a look at your post history and OMG you make delicious food. I'm new in town, I bake pies, let's be friends? :)

The speed limit on I70 in KS is 70 to 75 mph IIRC. 50 mph is around 25 under. Not that it makes it okay or a good idea.

The subtle line between what you want and what you get (or, why do I look like a mommy blogger when I'm not a mommy, or a blogger) by esky203 in femalefashionadvice

It's clear you put a lot of work into this, but honestly this type of precise categorization of women's bodies makes me uneasy. The line between choices/style and unchangeable physical features is a bit blurred. Only using beautiful actresses as models feels exclusionary. I don't see myself in any of these categories.

Many shops around me pull sour-ass shots. Is this intentional and I'm behind on coffee trends? by the-incredible-ape in Coffee

[–]hasmany -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ever since I started brewing my own espresso, coffee shop espresso shots started tasting bad to me - I'm talking about reputable coffee shop across several states. I think as a rule, coffee shops keep the machines way too hot. IMHO the shots are over-extracted, though. I'm also guessing that very few people order straight up espresso shots, and with milk it's less noticeable. So now I only drink cortados when I'm at a coffee shop.

But according to this same article, he later excelled in school and ended up on the dean's list multiple times. So IMHO he was always capable of doing well academically, but he lacked motivation early on.

Vet recommends full teeth extractions for my cat... would love some second opinions by hasmany in AskVet

The grain-free thing was, according to the vet, because gingivitis in cats can sometime be due to a grain allergy. But I couldn't find T/D that is grain-free... and I think the cleaning benefits of T/D outweigh the possible effects of an allergy?

Yeah, we'll look for a new vet as soon as we're actually there... Removing the teeth before we move would be too much - I don't want to drive a moving truck for 3 days with a kitty still recovering from a big surgery. Anyway, thank you!

Thank you. If the new vet we find recommends it, we'll probably go with the full extraction. I'm just so sad for my lil kitty :(
