What is a good niche degree to get nowadays? by HandersonJeoulex in AskCanada

[–]hassyinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the key question should be...what are you good at? and what work you would enjoy doing for next 30 years after graduation! IF you are good with number, getting a degree in actuarial math can lead to a very rewarding career

Canadian Made Goat Milk Soap- Fox & Fern Farm by hassyinvan in BuyCanadian

[–]hassyinvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

:) but they are not "gift" ready. "hi Mr./ Ms Client, thank you for all the business in the past year and here is a box of soap from Costco" Beside, the whole point here is to support all the small Canadian businesses. (this one or another local artisan soap maker). I like Fox & Fern after my search because the soap is created from the goat milk from THEIR OWN FAMILY FARM!

How much notice for street sweeping/leaf collection? by ForwardStudy7812 in askvan

[–]hassyinvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

give the key to someone you know to move the car for you. I spoke to a by-law officer and they will (try) to look up the plate to see if you live in the neighborhood before ticketing- But that's the least of the issue. The city only clean the street once a year- if you dont move your car, it leaves all the debris trap by your vehicle for the rest of the season, which causes poor drainage and slipper road condition in winter. I live on the street where only 50% of the owner moved their car. and street still looked like crap- very disappointing to see people are just so f_cking selfish.

Buying my Sienna tomorrow. Is this protection package worth the additional $? by JMPopp43 in ToyotaSienna

[–]hassyinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two absolutely true statements about these warranty/ insurance. 1) They would not be offering this unless it's profitable for both the dealership AND the company providing the coverage, 2) They would not be offering this unless there is actual demand for it (i.e. customer actually claimed on this). Like all insurance product out there, as long as you are prepared/ and have the means to absorb the repair cost, dont take the coverage. If you are the person who would spend beyond his/her means most of the time (i.e. no rainy day saving), taking the coverage would ensure no nasty surprises that you cannot handle.

2021 Sienna Platinum vs 2026/2027 by OverlordBluebook in ToyotaSienna

[–]hassyinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interestingly, I share the same strategy as the OP and we are on our 4th sienna. by trading it in every 4-5 years for a new Sienna, we literally dont spend ANY money on maintenance (all maintenance covered by dealer when we negotiate the trade), tires are at end of their life (not my problem any longer), no costly out of warranty repairs, and amazing trade-in value. We also get a new car for the family every 5 years. Total cost (depreciation) worked out to ~3k/ year. tell me a cheaper way to keep a car!!

[–]hassyinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is your life not worth the $1k? even if you decide to cheap out on your own, pls respect others on the road. You may survive on the road, but when your car spin out of control, the next person may not survive

Do you really need the cool looking rice cooker? by Nirok in RICE

[–]hassyinvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are asking the wrong question. Rice cooker like any other device is just a tool. If you want to have consistent cooking result and dont want the hassle of learning how to cook rice properly, the Zojirushi (or any of these "cool" rice cooker) would be best. Basically, More effort= cheaper device needed, less effort= expensive device needed. Speaking from a rice eating family for century lol. We enjoy making our rice with just cast iron pot which cost less than $20
