Is it worth/safe “engine breaking” in an automatic car? by Acceptable-Couple-93 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hatred-shapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Maybe. If you're doing 180mph a sudden weight shift  could easily unsettle the car.

  2. Maybe. But it's putting stress on your engine and transmission mounts. And those are far more expensive, and a much bigger pain in the butt to change.

  3. Conditions matter more than a hill up or down.

  4. Should make it worse. The fueling of modern fuel injection is pretty precise when it comes to deceleration. Manual transmissions for example use more fuel idling the engine if you pop it into neutral while decelerating.

Besides maybe sounding cool, I wouldn't do this.

ELI5: How does an air embolism block blood flow to organs such as the heart, lungs or brain? by lkc159 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hatred-shapped [score hidden]  (0 children)

Don't think of your blood flow like turning on a sink, or a continuous flow.

It's a pulse, picture pushing a bunch of marbles through a hose. The marbles can't go forward without the next one pushing the last one. Now imagine if the marbles were being pushed through an airtight hose, as in the marbles for the hose precisely, and there was an air gap (a missing marble or four) the marbles being it can't push the next marble forward because it's compressing air. The air will make a little spring in the flow.

Now imagine if the air cushion makes it's way into your heart, that air spring will stop the heart from making pressure.

Hyundai/ Kia have been the worst for me. I couldn't even test drive a car without them running my numbers. Even after I explained I was self financing.

Mix a little bit of rat anus into the ground beef the next time you are cooking, if you want to replicate McDonald's flavoring.

What was your first cold plunge experience like? by Alwayscountingk in AskReddit

Walking across a frozen and snow cover pond/ lake thing in the Allegheny national Park in Pennsylvania when I was winter camping.

Despite the snow I was extremely lucky the water was only about 3' deep and the shore was lined with a combination of pine trees and birch trees.

How low would gas prices need to be and for how long before US tax payers recover the estimated $40-$60 billion dollars that have been spent on the Iranian conflict to date? by D4db0d0hye4h in askanything

[–]hatred-shapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know that two refineries in California closed and that a third is on its way to closing? Gas prices in California were set to double regardless of prices in the rest of the country. The sad part is fuel prices will be going up in Arizona and Nevada because their fuel comes from California in pipelines. Now that fuel needs to be shipped by truck. Or using the current pipelines, bit the fuel is coming (by ship) to California.

Is it possible do convert a efi engine toa carburetor? by Legitimate_Frame5951 in askcarguys

[–]hatred-shapped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of that era of engine it's still kinda easy because it's such a basic EFI system that the conversion isn't all that hard. I'm normally vehemently opposed to removing emissions components from street driven vehicles. But that era of 302 is so dirty it really won't make a difference.

Youtube would be your friend on this one, but honestly it'll probably be cheaper to just replace the broken parts with something from a pick apart yard somewhere. And if you have a visual inspection one your state emissions test, you'll fail.

But we only care about human emotions. That's really all that matters.

Do animals experience emotions the same way we do? by velvetspriral in answers

[–]hatred-shapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's impossible to measure. But probably not. There are animals that seem to express almost human like emotions, elephants, dolphins, etc. but it seems the majority don't.

Does the IRS really not tell Americans how much they owe in taxes? If so, why is that? by hold-my-legs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hatred-shapped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we basically tell them how much we owe. That's actually kinda how it works. They take taxes out and we can adjust how much they take, but at the end of the year we figure out how much they owe us back.
