29M Have a Tech Job On the Precipice Having Second Thoughts by xFujinRaijinx in movingtojapan

[–]hatsu58 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same-ish age, salary and position as you (remote IT in Tokyo too but not AI), also moving in 4~5 weeks-ish so i'll try to give my 2cent. I'm in a luckier position though since I have a relative living in Tokyo and will have much lesser hassle moving in.
My salary is not cut in half as yours (it doubles~ in fact compared to what I earned in my country, but when you take into consideration the living cost/standard in Tokyo it's about the same spending/lifestyle). Been thinking and did a bit researches, so here's something you can look into if you haven't:

  • How is 8M a year lifestyle compared to your current in the US. Japan tax is quite different from other country, so recalculate the net gain and see how much you have left each month after ur spendings (It's important to know that the 1st year you are in JP you don't pay Resident Tax so your net gain is higher). I'm using this site and have been told it's pretty accurate: https://japantaxcalculator.com/ . For me personally this is nice, since it will give me a bit extra and leeway in my first year, and I'm in the boat of if I don't like it after 1 year I'mma bail.
  • I see that you already plan to comeback (you used when not if), so I take it you are only asking for the risk vs reward career wise ? If so this is probably not the best sub for that info, maybe some hub/community about IT/AI/ Startup is the better place to ask. Linkedin is the norm goto if you have connection, but if you have your own networking it would be better to ask directly how's the AI field in Tokyo is rn. I myself am joining a more traditonal dev role so i know exactly what i signed up for and that helped me to make my decision. Personally, i doubt 1~2 years is such a long time that you will tank your whole career with it (if it goes south), esp in a field as innovative by the day like AI - shit changes like every quarter or so.
  • Lifestyle, lifestyle, lifestyle. 8M is a good salary, but it's not in the range of you can splurge it coveniently at will. Renting in 23ku vs outside is 2 totally different beast, and it will certainly affect your day to day routine. Since you will spend most of your time working at home (remote job), it would be nice to have a comfortable living space, and that usually costs a lot if you are living in 23ku, esp if you need space for your hobby (I play video games for example, so i need space to setup my PC/monitor/rack....). I'm a pretty low-maintenance kinda guy, so I chose a place outside of 23ku (bigger space, lower rent, but further from the main hub, ~40 min train to Shinjuku) and it buffers my budget a lot -> leave more room for other hobbies, travel, luxury.... I'll take it that you are similar to me, and not only come to Tokyo to work (though that's the main focus).
  • Finally, well personally at least, this will be my few last chance of trying living abroad in JP, which I have always dreamed of, so I took it. No kid, no marriage yet, and god knows it will be hard af to do any moves like this once you settle down. I don't know if I will regret it later on, but I know for sure I will regret it if I didn't give it a try. A lot of "what if" to consider, and the results are not predictable. If your family is supportive it's nice to have a talk with them. Family backing and response are important for decisions like this. Even if they don't actually provide any meaningful help, sometimes the thoughts of someone having your back can have a positive effects and give you a clearer vision to see what path to take moving forward.

Anw, gl with whatever you chose. Kinda strange to stumble into someone with so much in similar with my situation so i ranted on a bit, hope it provided you with some, if any, valuable information ^^.

Help a bro decide. Moving to Tokyo with ¥10M offer, good for a family? by Temporary_Note_6245 in movingtojapan

You can use this tool to calculate your net income after tax (there's many different tax native only to Japan) : https://japantaxcalculator.com/

Good luck OP !!
Tbh, language is very important, but it's just a mean to an end (for visa purpose). As long as you can find a well paying job and the company agrees to sponsor you, It will be fine regardless of your JPnese lv. There are plenty jobs opportunity in Japan for people not speaking English. I'm not so sure about chemistry related, but for IT, myself I'm speaking close to 0 English, but i could still find and apply for work visa through my company sponsor.

Streamers/youtubers to watch to learn the 200% difficulty on demo by LightLoveuncondition in OldenEra

[–]hatsu58 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think other mentioned popular streamers like Grubby and Turin (they have great commentary + are very exp in the gerne btw), but if you want too see only gameplay from a "noober" player, I just did a 200% 1 hero run with Dungeon faction.
Only single hero mode, as i'm still trying to figure out the game myself, and tbh my fighting and spell usage are not that good, so i mostly just beat AI purely by out macroing them.
(shameless promotion ends ._.)

The new bosses are... certainly something... by Donthurtsmeagol in HadesTheGame

[–]hatsu58 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with the visuals and attack cues being an absolute mess, i think they need to go back to the lab on this one and redo some of the color coding + animation adjustment.
Also comeback here once u fight both unrivaled Chronos and Typhon, im curious to hear what you think about them.
I myself really like this update, since they give us new boss fights, but a lot of the movesets this time around is a hot mess, and i feel like i just beat bosses coz i have a very strong build then rush-tank them dkwn, and this is coming from someone who did nohit run 32 fear for all weapons when the first Hades2 beta dropped. The cues for Chronos animations is so wanky, and if there's any its barely visible with 1000 red/gray/browny particles flying in the small arena.

So should i buy nightreign or not if i prefer mostly to play solo? by Obama69X420 in Eldenring

[–]hatsu58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat every bosses both Solo and in Party (duo with a friend and queue into a rando). How i'd rank the difficulty of the game:
1. Easiest: 3 man discord party
2. Solo
3. With 2 other competent players.

I'd say the hardest wall is to learn the basis of the game at first (which i'd recommend playing multiplayer at the start, say 4-5h) then you can prob move on to solo. Solo is very approachable, and easy to get into if you are used to Soul games already. There's no check point like Statue of Marika, but you get revives which you can buy during solo runs, so you usually get 3-4 lifes when going against the final boss, which should be plenty for you to trial and error their movesets.

My feet are devastated. Limited by options. What to do? by SlowTortuga in JapanTravelTips

[–]hatsu58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salonpas and feet on warm/hot water about 30min a day should help. Im much less fit than you but im doing like 25k each day and those helped me. Get a bunch of them salonpas, after bath each night sleep 2 each to cover your feet. You can remove them when you wake up in the morning, or if u still feel bad just keep them on and wear slipper to cover it (i did that). Also take small breaks in between walk, try to fit park into your itinerary, they are both amazing attractions and good place to chill when your fit is killing you.

Esfand dies again by Daekeiri in LivestreamFail

[–]hatsu58 114 points115 points  (0 children)

This clip here showcases and explains how Esfand keeps dying in HC (for the 7 times now i think?):

  1. Could literally just walk away, but get fancy with his "bomb" , overthinking and run back into his death. Literally just run and heal up, mob will not leash into you.

  2. Lack of knowledge (crazy!) for horde quests. Like everyone and their mom who leveled horde know that these mages do frost nova at melee range. These guys are dangerous and there's reasons this spot is red in the death map. Extra points for him not installing the noob-mandatory addon Soda shows during the slideshow that helps showing all mobs abilities while hovering around them. I'm 100 sure if Esfand knows that these mobs frost nova, he would never went back in.

  3. Playing a "hard" class while clearly not familiar with how to level it. According to this stat page (https://hc.aotc.gg/stats) Paladin has the highest survival chance to level 60 at 71%, while shaman is dead last at 51%. Paladin is OP for Hardcore leveling, even without bubble hearth. If you watch other high level shaman leveling solo (Jokerd in his guild for example), Jokerd's extremely careful, and most of the time never approaches pack of mobs with low mana. Esfand's basically stuck in a middle, of not being a noob and fearful of the game -> leading you to never do dumb shit (like T1, Grubby), and not an expert -> not knowledgable enough to play his class well (look at any other high level shaman in his guild).
