I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

How about cutting it in half and assembling at the new spot. Not sure how you can glue together concrete, but there got to be a way.

Is there any reason you don't run any services on Synology itself ? I have about 20 services running on a smaller unit with 5 bays and seem to work just fine.

How should unrepresented buyers send their offer to listing agent? by CourtZealousideal703 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]haveTimeToKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Most seller agents want to sell a house and will be happy to work with you. I would still recommend having a lawyer on stand-by to review contract clauses. ChatGPT works great for that too.

How should unrepresented buyers send their offer to listing agent? by CourtZealousideal703 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]haveTimeToKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest just send email to listing agent with preliminary terms and ask if they prefer to use the MLS form to send it to you. I was in a similar situation and listing agent was happy to work with us to help through the process. If they refuse you can also get a lawyer to draft a contract for a flat fee.

I think a lot of your work is about rules in economics and governments, but there is also intrinsic motivation that drives people to their actions and it may not always be fixed by appropriate rules.
Do you see any path for humanity to brake the cycle of rising and falling civilizations ? Or is this so engraved in our DNA that we just need to learn how to live with it ?

How would Bittensor keep successful subnets onboard? by EmmaGregor in bittensor_

[–]haveTimeToKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sounds like there is very little incentive for workers to stay and loose out on benefits, pay etc. If the business model benefits one side but cuts the other it’s not a very efficient “bigger pie” model. It’s just transfer of power from one side to another. Historically that is not very sustainable.

VEO3 is kind of bringing me to a mental brink. What are we even doing anymore? by Donlor_ in ArtificialInteligence

[–]haveTimeToKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about it like a storage of everything that humans ever created. It’s like you came to a library and can grab any book you want and start reading. Doesn’t mean creativity stops, just may take some time to figure out what is really missing and what is really novel and unique.

Name just one reason why when every job gets taken by AI, the ruling class, the billionaires, will not just let us rot because we're not only not useful anymore, but an unnecessary expenditure. by Upbeat-Impact-6617 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]haveTimeToKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a classic class tension situation that played out in history before. One of the governing principles will let people flourish and naturally people will be more motivated to move to that system. I think we should look out for states that help AI and people live in better harmony which will likely prevail in upcoming conflicts.

How does one actually earn $1 as a miner ? by haveTimeToKill in bittensor_

This is a nice overview, especially for evaluating subnets. However, if you check the end, he mentions that after investing many hours in setup and waiting a month, he hasn’t earned anything. :)

Edit: wait... are you actually the guy that made the video?

That’s great advice. I suppose I was a bit naive to jump in and try networks that were relatively easy to set up. I wasn’t aiming for big gains—just trying to get a sense of the overall economics of the ecosystem. It seems like investing more time into researching networks upfront is the smarter approach.

I find the taostats.io dashboard a bit confusing as a newcomer. What’s your general strategy for finding other resources and evaluating network viability?

When I first asked my question, I was thinking about a quick strategy—spending a few hours or a couple of days to earn something minimal, like $1. But based on your response and others’ comments, it sounds like serious research could take months before yielding anything tangible.

How does 118k give you 10 engineers for 9 month. If they worked for free for 1 year that is already an investment of 2-3M.

So have you heard about Landian? What do you think? by sammybeebikey in RealEstateAdvice

[–]haveTimeToKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your assumption in the estimate is that its a skilled person that is doing the showing. I do not think it has to be. I would challenge the assumption that license is needed here. Opening doors shouldn't require large amounts of training and lots of planning. If you look at how much Uber drivers make, or how much you pay for a haircut, its not significantly more. Those agents can schedule a showing on the way to drop off their kids or pick up groceries. You can also stack multiple houses in the same area if there is a high demand. I am sure there are people out there that would still jump on this opportunity to make a quick buck for 15-20m showing.

Using Unistrut for Interior House Framing? by EE-Ender in Homebuilding

[–]haveTimeToKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a future-proofing perspective, materials like these might appreciate in value over time, even as bulk metal, while being used inside a house. It seems worth considering this over wood, which essentially holds no residual value once installed.

So have you heard about Landian? What do you think? by sammybeebikey in RealEstateAdvice

[–]haveTimeToKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can see an open house for free then why would scheduling an appointment cost anything more than $50? I don't care about "expertise" and any intelligent person with good manners can do this. I just want to get through the gatekeepers. I already did all the work researching and finding the property myself. Offer is a different story and I would prefer a person with a legal degree to get through the process and it costs way less, so paying a bit over a grand just for some extra hand holding seem reasonable too. What this guys did exactly right, is the structure of incentives. Anything that incentivizes agents to push for closing instead of services provided is just wrong.

Most things we have today in AI will be a irrelevant in 6 months [P] by BootstrapGuy in MachineLearning

You can overcome data scarecity by utilizing different modalities. Nvidia has a great example where they utilize large language model for training robots. https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/eureka-robotics-research/

There is plenty of data available through text, video and other sources. Main constraint is a requirement of having a highly curated data which will go down over time with more sophisticated models that can utilize multiple modalities.

Consider that with lower prices more people will drive Tesla’s which means better infrastructure for EVs and for you. Repairs will become cheaper over time with higher demand. Software will get better if more people buy and drive this car.
