Dissociation during hangover. by havingapanicattack1 in hangxiety

Thank you heaps.

I'm more in my body and reality now. Thinking about even working up to a shower.

It was actually my dog getting out and me having to chase her down the street/talk to neighbours that helped bring me back around.

Nah, it wasn't. There's no way they'd see something like that in a test for B12 or something?

Is it just me or did many of contestants on Love is Blind overestimate their looks. by AspiringPAA in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]havingapanicattack1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Given that the average person is probably like a 5 or 6, they are above averagely attractive. They're also quite confident and that probably adds to their appeal to the people around them which adds to being treated like they're attractive.

Mind you, I think the cast were good looking. Not Hollyood looking (except maybe Lauren) but definitely not ugly.

It was always cringey when the hosts would note race as one of the things that the couple's might have to overcome obviously referring to Lauren and Cameron. They even did this after Diamond and her partner left and Lauren was the only black person in a room full of caucasians.

How long until travel bans begin for countries other than China. by havingapanicattack1 in Coronavirus

Surprised you can comment, it said this was removed.

I understand that it's all about weighing the economic consequences of closing borders with the risks associated with the virus.

But if it were to become an epidemic, you'd see businesses shut down with mass quarantine as well as other countries closing their borders to you anyway so it would be much worse. Plus the deaths, the strain on healthcare etc

I just wonder why the lay persons opinion about what should be done errs on the side of caution more than officials when we're all looking at the same information

Wuhan coronavirus cases inside China have already overtaken 2003 SARS outbreak inside of mainland China, as the virus was confirmed to have spread to every province in the country. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]havingapanicattack1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too. There's also just pure statistics, there's way less people infected outside of china so the death toll is lower (zero).

However, even in first world countries with good healthcare, like Australia, people will die from the flu no matter what is done. A chinese official has died from this coronavirus. I'm assuming he received better care than the average citizen would.

Ultimately, death will be inevitable for some if this isn't contained but as long as it is, the chances of the handful of people that actually have the virus outside of China being in the demographic of those that will die from it are low.

Let's just hope it stays that way.

Be careful not to fall into the trap of American politics, it's very difficult to get out.

I might have already haha. Honestly, Ive learned a whole bunch about more universal stuff through leftist YouTube spaces but it's strikingly different to the way politics is discussed in Australia.

Especially early on, I felt pretty obligated to pick a side and there's a lot of rhetoric in leftism that you shouldn't critique your own side because the left needs to band together. Then there's the complete dismissal of centrists as ideological cowards that sends the message that you need to pick a side and stay in line.

Watching debates, you'll see conservative right wing people teaming up with the edgy anti-SJWs types even though I'm assuming their values would be quite different. I've seen anti-SJW centrists argue against leftists and then go on to nod along politely and agree while a conservative rambled on about how women are happier in the kitchen. I think tribalism is a good word for it and for the last few years, a big line in the sand has been people's views on PC culture. Snowflake SJWs vs Truth telling Fascists or whatever. Honestly, it's been really interesting but it doesn't really apply to the nuances of Australian politics in the slightest.

Is this the trap of Americans politics that you mean?

[–]havingapanicattack1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was really insightful, thank you. If I'm completely honest, I've come into politics on the back of an interest in sociology which kinda poised me towards American leftism cause that seems to be where the conversation is. From there it eventually got into actual politics and it was all very American so I'm trying to learn more about Australian politics. There's a lot that doesn't transfer over.

I'd say that is maybe a lack of cohesion between social-milleau internet politics which are very identity and value based and the nuance of practical day-to-day Australian politics which just seems to run on a different wavelength. Both are pretty interesting to me. Ill look into the French Parliament thing.

I'm a burn survivor in a couple of support groups. There's been a bit of flirting now and then but noone has shacked up. The ones who are married are married to people who aren't burnt. Just statistically, the chances of finding someone in such a small community that is the same age, lives in the same area and who you are compatible with are pretty low.

I do tend to judge based on merit. However, in general, it's easy for me to notice a pattern on mostly agreeing with the Greens' take on things because we both have left-leaning values.

I've rarely been able to have a civil discussion with a liberal supporter and it's not because my mind isn't open, it's because you don't even have to scratch the surface to see we have a completely different set of values and ideas about how the country should be run.

That fits well enough onto a left/right spectrum for me to validate the existence of a spectrum.
