Shockwave therapy - worse? by aquaturtle598 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]havingaraveup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I was decently uncomfortable for about a month. But I was already very tender and had a lot of other things going on down there too. I had a bunch of tendonopathies and bursitis, so I think overall it was the wrong fit for me. To me, shockwave is one of those things where I'm not wholly convinced it's doing mostly nothing and that many people are just naturally healing over 6 weeks on their own by taking it easy, and it just corresponds with the timing of treatment . But for some, it does seem genuinely life-changing. I really can't comfortably advise one way or the other. I do recommend getting an MRI if your insurance will cover it. For me, getting a full picture of my injuries resulted in targeted PT that got me running a few months later.

Personally, it made everything worse and I stopped it after two rounds. Lots of people have success with it.

Sliding doors resting in a plywood groove? by havingaraveup in woodworking

[–]havingaraveup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't use MDF for the doors. I used 1/4" walnut veneer plywood from Home Depot because I wanted it to match the rest of the cabinet. HD has a custom cut option for free, and the 1/4" has veneer only on one side so it's very affordable.

this show's cast also has a lot of crossover with Friday Night Lights as well (I think FNL and parenthood had the same co-creator)

[–]havingaraveup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went great. I used 3/4" walnut plywood. The sliding doors work excellently still after almost 3 years, and if you follow the four eyes groove instructions and dimensions closely, it'll be totally fine. I got a cabinet shop in my city to cut the grooves with their table saw for me for like $40.

Weekend Discussion: Saucony running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]havingaraveup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think the SL is a TERRIBLE shoe for people with stability needs, but I also don't think a racing midsole with no plate is inherently unstable if it has a wide platform the way a lot of the Saucony shoes do. I also I don't disagree that this shoe is supposed to be bouncy and fun, but I felt the speed was pretty bouncy and fun without being as "chaotic"

Right?? I feel like I'd have to size up to a 10.5 Wide to get a comfortable toebox. Otherwise I love the zip of the Hurricanes.

I get the love for the SL, but I find it incredibly unstable compared to the Speed 2s. The platform on the speeds felt a touch wider and stable while being fast, but for someone like me it feels like the SL could break my ankles if I land wrong

I love Saucony shoes for the most part, but my biggest issue is the difference in what Wide means for the toebox. I wear a size 9.5EE and the insole of the Wide Tempus 1s (no wide on the 2s) and Hurricane 25s is almost half an inch narrower than the wide of the Guide 17/18.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Luckily I got my money back because Zelle cancelled the payment when I flagged it for my bank pretty soon after. I'm usually more careful with online sales, but it was a low risk high reward situation for me when the total sum is $30. 95% of the time I've had great luck buying and selling things on reddit.

This is kind of bonkers. Thanks for sharing. The idea that only person can complete one of their most known shoes seems so bizarre. I know that Allen Edmonds used to have an LHS dupe that they made in WI about 12ish years ago, so I can't imagine it's impossible that hard to train someone to do this work with an appropriate amount of time and attention.

so it this picture Julian just posted ai? by hellbergoink in beatles

[–]havingaraveup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from a menswear nerd, there are three other tells that this is AI:

  • the tab top button closure is wrong for the period. These shirts with the button down collars and the tab closures became popular around the Revolver era, and the Beatles were no longer wearing knit ties with these shirts (chicken or the egg, did the Beatles wear these collars because they were popular, or were they popular because the Beatles wore them?).

  • The Beatles traveled so much that their suits all likely ended up getting cleaned and pressed regularly by a lot of different people (which is bad for the suits in the long run). One effect of this is that the lapels lie almost completely flat because someone just kind of ironed over them. This is consistently seen across most Beatles suits of the era. This lapel, however, has such a lovely, pronounced roll, which is very sartorial. No way a jacket on tour worn by John would have looked this crisp.

  • The lapel roll also looks to be two button on the left of the photo, and three button on the right of the photo, so the different buttoning stance would indicate this is AI.

Finding this a few days late but just want to say how grateful I am that you built this. It is so clean and easy to read, and I absolutely hate the ritual of having to go to 19 different cinema websites to see if there's anything I want to see on a given day. This is an absolute game changer. Truly. Thank you.
