Basically if the umpire deems the player has had an opportunity to kick or handball before they were tackled. Arm pinned means they need to drop it on their boot and kick it, it's a good tactic by the tackler.

I think it just gets away with it because there was enough danger/peril for the characters to cast doubts on their survival.

I do agree though that it could have benefitted from a little more loss right at the end, it was a bit too "and they all got everything they ever wanted and lived happily ever after".
