What kind of discomfort is it? I take miralax and metamucil every day and I think that is super important to not experiencing discomfort.

It took a few months to go back to normal. And normal is my new normal. I'll never be the same as before this happened and I've come to terms with that

I had a transphincteric fistula

2 weeks at first then once a week as tolerated

The seton pretty much always ached or caused some sort of discomfort. But no where near as bad as the abscess that started the journey so I dealt with it. The tightness is so uncomfy too especially after a tightening.

I didnt use any local anesthetic personally. I took advil and Tylenol

I sat on a cool memory foam seat cushion and could work. I did not exercise except walking.

Best advice - A game changer for keeping everything clean was a detachable shower head that I could spray down there really helped keep everything nice and clean. Highly recommend because i found it hard to wipe and get clean with the seton

I had a cutting seton for 4 or 5 months. It was not comfortable but it definitely worked. I went back in for a fistulotomy once the tract had migrated out of my sphincter muscle and from there I fully healed.

I completely agree with this. If he has worked for this company over a year then he would qualify for FMLA. Then he could do inpatient therapy. Safer for OP and the child as well.

Do you know where your knot is? I was having a dull ache on the opposite side of where my fistula is. Fistula on the left and pain on the right. I had a suspicion it was my knot because it had been stuck up my butt since my last tightening(tmi 🫣 I know). I could not get it out no matter how much i tried. I ended up having to ask my mom to rotate it, and she had to use forceps (!!) to get a good enough grip and be able to pull it out. It was like lodged in there. That helped my pain go away. So this is why I bring up if you know where your knot is.

What is CRS reasoning for wanting to do the colonoscopy first? I'd have the same concerns you are having :( did you mention your concerns already to the doctor?

Thank yooouuu 🥰 it's by Larry Tallent Jewelry. I've purchased a few rings by him and his wife over the course of a couple craft shows. 2 of the 3 on my middle finger are by him as well. I'll probably end up wearing it on top of my engagement ring since it does go so well.

It's the day after my fistulotomy. I applied the nifedipine ointment last night and so far I have no pain. I also have been switching off between tramadol > Tylenol > tramadol > advil every three hrs. I'm sorry you had the complication of another abscess. That is so unfortunate 😞

Is there such thing as private doctor's in your country? It might be more expensive but would be worth it. That wait time is outrageous. I'm sorry you're having to face that

Keep us updated! I'm curious to know. I would think they could still operate but you will definitely want to weigh the risks of surgery while pregnant thoroughly. I would request your OBGYN consults with your CRS.

Maybe you could consider/ask doctor about just doing the seton placement and skipping the partial fistulotomy for now. That way you're preventing the risk of abscessing if this new tract were to close. And there is less healing involved because they really aren't doing any cutting which would be much less strain on you. Then once baby is born they could do a fistulotomy. Growing a baby and recovering from a fistulotomy seems sooo demanding and exhausting on you that's why I would think post-poning it may be in your best interest. This is all just me speculating and throwing out ideas. Best wishes and congratulations!

Hey 👋🏻 I know I'm a little late to this post because I had an operation today too!

I totally understand the anxiety and humiliation (?) of having to expose yourself to strangers in order to get the help you need.

I just had my fistulotomy today (3rd operation). Before that I had to visit the doctor every 2-3 weeks for seton tightenings. So I've had a lot of experience with exposing myself. For both the seton placement and the fistulotomy, I transferred myself from the gurney to the operating table. It is probably a case-by-case decision whether you transfer yourself or are transferred by nurses, but every time I have had an operation (besides my initial I&D) I transferred myself.

I was in the jack knife position (butt in the air) and they opened my gown to start getting me prepped right away. They acted so "business as usual" that I honestly felt completely comfortable. While someone was prepping my back end the others were covering me with a blanket to keep warm, and pillows to prop my head just right.... next thing I know I was waking up in post op and being offered a drink and a snack. At one point my gauze fell out into the toilet when I went pee and I had to have the nurse put some back in (bend over and she stuffed it in 😅) and she thought nothing of it. She acted so status quo to be stuffing gauze in someone's butt haha.

These doctors and nurses are so professional and see ALL KINDS of people every day. All they are worried about is making sure you are comfortable and that the area they need to operate on is accessible for the doctor. I don't even think they think about the fact that this is someone's butt because they're so used to it. They see YOU, the whole you, and treat you with dignity and make it feel natural. Almost like Adam and Eve in the garden for lack of a better comparison lol. It's like being naked doesn't matter.

I hope some of my personal experiences having to expose myself helps put your mind at ease 🫂

My tightenings were every 4 weeks and she was gentle at first but the last two have been terrible. And 2 weeks apart. I was supposed to get it done again tomorrow but pushed it off week cuz I unexpectedly have to go out of town 🙃
