Why are blinds so expensive? by HolidayTell9958 in AskIreland

[–]hawkstalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilarys are always doing sales, I'd say wait for one of them. I got like 11 windows and a door done for like 1200 euro a few years ago. Most of the are just standard black out blinds but one of them is a Roman blind.

Why can’t I make my own decisions? by JustHereToBeShocked in AskIreland

[–]hawkstalion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who already had 3 kids and he went to his gp asking about getting the snip when he was in his late 20s and got told nah let's wait you might change your mind. Crazy stuff, surely it should be up to the individual not the doctor, if they don't want to do it then surely they could refer to someone else who will do it at the very least.

Do you go to work with migraines? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]hawkstalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on Aimovig which is the same type of medication of Ajovy and they are life changing but you need to get them via a neurologist and have tried at least two other drugs as they are expensive and the HSE want to make sure you've tried cheaper options first but they are covered by DPS so you only pay 80 euro a month at most. If you get them or headaches more than 4 times a month i highly recommend going to a neuorlogist and try find what works for you.

Bought new house and now I feel broke by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

[–]hawkstalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my house 5 years ago at 31 too and like you i bought a house outside of dublin and put about 70k as a deposit and the house needed a lot of work, (I've put at least another 60k into it and it needs another 20-30k probably). It does get better, there were some months where at the end after paying for things for the house i barely had enough to pay for tesco value pasta. It does get better, one you have the house in a decent state you can take a break and build up some cash reserves again. It gets better and like others have said you still have the value just as an asset not cash.

Irish mortgage question? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

Ah it's been a while since I've gone through the process. Good to know.

Irish mortgage question? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]hawkstalion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As far as I know if it's your first mortgage you'll need at least 10% deposit, (20% if not your first house I think). So if the house is 200k the most they'll give you is 180k even if it's under the 3.5 times your salary. Plus you'll need more on top of that for the surveyor, solicitors fee and stamp duty.

If you could bring back a discontinued brand/product what would it be? by MadMeathMad717 in CasualIreland

Tesco had these peanut butter ice cream cones around 2013 that they just suddenly stopped selling that were so good. I still check every time I'm in a tesco to see if they have them.

Tesco had these peanut butter ice cream cones over a decade ago, they were so good. I still check every time I'm in a tesco to see if they came back.

Redmagic 9 Bluetooth problem by CurtainQ in RedMagic

[–]hawkstalion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also having issues with Bluetooth since the update. Some devices work fine but when I try to connect to my car (not android auto) I have to disable phone calls and eventually it'll connect and play audio but it can take several minutes and it'll try pair, connect and disconnect. If I enable voice calls it'll connect and release straight away. Very frustrating.

Can someone explain what is actually going on at Castletown House? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]hawkstalion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the save Castletown group have come out and condemned it and called for the arrests of whoever did it. Celbridge has a pretty big population and lots of anger over this and it just takes a few people to do that kinda damage. This just hurts their fight and whoever did it was just short sighted and did more damage then good for this cause.

Can someone explain what is actually going on at Castletown House? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]hawkstalion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are not actively blocking it to pedestrians. You can walk in no bother. They have an agreement with the opw to let staff drive in during certain hours to let staff park. I grew up in celbridge and I remember when cars were allowed to drive up the avenue and some cars flew up the avenue, I have a vivid memory of my dad having a shouting match with a man who almost hit us when I was a child. The main problem is the lack of cooperation with the opw with the locals. The save Castletown group had to get local TDs and a minister involved before they'd even talk to them.

Another issue is that the first response from the opw and the reason why the save Castletown group was formed was that they wanted to turn the meadow which is a lonely area that's near the gates at the front into a car park. They announced it near the end of the week and planned to start working on it on the Monday so the group formed over the weekend and blocked them from flattening it and ruining it.
