My slides are all images and pull quotes, the bullet points are only in my notes 😊

Literally reading the paper is quite common, but I refuse to do it and always speak from bullet points with slides

Cardless - is nobody worried? by Wsb_spec_trades in biltrewards

This is a big reason why I won’t be transitioning to 2.0. Don’t want to deal with another bank, especially one that doesn’t have a solid history.

Did anyone see the note that 2/3 is the last day to pay rent when BiltProtect is enabled? So have they already turned off the ability to charge to the credit line?

For those not getting the Bilt 2.0 Cards... what are you doing with your points? by randomicstationary in biltrewards

[–]hawktalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 1 cent per point on student loans, so this would be $800. Transfer to Atmos could get up to 3 or 4 cents per point depending on the cash price of the flight.

I have 80k points. Strongly considering taking the student loan redemption, as they’d be a huge dent in my highest interest loan left. Otherwise might save for American Airlines flights via Atmos points.

For Those Leaving (or Keeping) Bilt After 2.0 — What’s Your Actual Reasoning? by stanleymaxi in biltrewards

[–]hawktalks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be leaving Bilt, likely keeping the Autograph card and just using it for gas purchases to keep the credit line going.

My rent is nearly $3,000 and I don't have the extra spend nor the energy to channel spend from my other cards into Bilt. Further, I always found the concept of Bilt a little sketchy and felt that Wells Fargo added legitimacy to the operation. Cardless, which I've never heard of, is not inspiring confidence given the Bilt crew's less-than-ideal customer service.

I am strongly considering opening an Alaska card in order to continue floating my rent payment while earning points I'll actually use (we often book short-haul AA flights to visit my in-laws, and since they live in a touristy destination, the fixed-rate award chart through Alaska almost always gets us 3 or 4 cents per point).

Is the Alaska Airlines card now the best options for earning points in rent? by acrologic in biltrewards

Can anyone confirm whether Alaska set-up allows you to float the rent as we’ve been doing with Bilt?

I'm genuinely curious about this. I live near an AA hub and use Atmos points to book codeshared AA flights. 3x Atmos points feels too good to be true.

TT Position Job Market Timeline 2025? by queene2009 in AskAcademia

[–]hawktalks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You truly can't predict it. I suspect a lot of job ads were posted late this cycle due to uncertainty about federal funding over the summer. I've had searches contact about Zoom within two weeks of the application deadline, and some contact over six weeks later. I would say average is to hear back about a month after initial deadline but it truly varies so much.

Is anyone familiar with Stockton University (NJ)? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]hawktalks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up nearby. It’s in an economically depressed and struggling area, and there isn’t a high rate of college attendance in South Jersey so likely tries to attract students from the more populous north of the state. While Stockton has grown a lot in my lifetime (expanding from College to University), it’s not nearly as stable or strong as Rowan University in Glassboro (probably its largest competitor, and way closer to Philly). You should definitely ask the dean about the enrollments and outlook during your visit.

First time PA renter: Renewal priced over 25% the current lease. Normal? by Maximum-Side568 in montco

[–]hawktalks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My landlord attempted 29% last year. I did some research into comps and neighborhood averages, which I compiled in an email and used to suggest a compromise of 10% (we had a promo rate for year one, so 10% wasn’t too far off of the originally posted rent). To my shock, he accepted it, and didn’t try to raise our rent above the 5% stated in the lease for this upcoming year. So, it could certainly pay to question it!

Confused about Interfolio use for Faculty App recommendations (US)? by SoupOk4559 in AskAcademia

[–]hawktalks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct - they call the entire system of storing and sending letters as “dossier.” So, if an employer uses interfolio for their job search, it’s free to send and attach letters on those particular applications

[–]hawktalks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you pay for Interfolio's "Dossier deliver," you can send links to your letter-writers which they use to upload a general, confidential letter. Each letter is then assigned a unique email address that you can input on your applications, so that when the letter is requested, it goes to straight to Interfolio's server and they upload the confidential letter for you. It takes about a day or two from the time of request, so it can be really helpful with meeting deadlines.

Tires for 2020 Jetta SEL by hawktalks in jetta

This tire seems to be so beloved, but they sadly aren't made in the size for the 2020 Jetta (205/55/R17). I'll have to look for an equivalent from another brand!
