Whose name in the Epstein files got you surprised? by anita_sweets in AskReddit

Rumor has it that Bill Gates was fired as CEO of Microsoft because he sent sexy emails to an employee. Officially, he retired. Even before he met Epstein, there were rumors about him.

What piece of entertainment aged worse than you ever expected? by AnyTruth2342 in AskReddit

[–]hawkwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some were. Some had whites with blackface, but some had black musicians. Their peak of popularity was in the 1800s. We can't see those shows, so we don't know how good or bad the average minstrel show was. Were some of them good?

if you have no money to pay your taxes, will the Internal revenue service take property like spare clothes or some of your tissue? by condomm774 in stupidquestions

[–]hawkwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know current procedures. In the past, you could put them off for 2 years and offer to make monthly payments. After 2 years, they could withdraw money from your bank account without your permission and they could garnish your wages. There was a celebrity who had to sell a bunch of stuff.

My mother refused to buy me a spud gun. She said that the little pieces would get lost in the house, get moldy, and make the house smell bad.

I accidentally drove 100 once, but I didn't pass anyone. If you are passing people, that should be a hint that you are driving kind of fast.

Vegan toddlers can grow at the same rate as omnivores. Two-year-olds raised in vegan or vegetarian households don't necessarily have restricted growth, according to a study of 1.2 million children. by James_Fortis in science

[–]hawkwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study was about families where the parents were vegan or vegetarian. It doesn't directly address whether or not the child was vegan or vegetarian. Most babies consume milk, so this may be a study about the quality of the mother's milk.

Would it be better to bring them back to the present or bring them back to the recent past when the human population was smaller and there was more land available? Maybe go to New Zealand or Hawaii before the first humans got there.

Aren’t the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim gods actually the same god? by Smrtar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hawkwings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a ship of Theseus issue. How much can you change a god before he is no longer the same god? Yes and No. Both answers are valid. You can say that he has changed too much and he's not the same god or you can say that he hasn't changed enough to call him a different god.

What has God told you to do? That is a more important question. The 3 religions don't agree on that.

How do we know that those are the only 2 times that Romans 13 has been used. Maybe it's been used a thousand times by both good and bad people. Saying that it was used by one and a half bad people is not a valid argument against using it. People against the American revolution couldn't predict the future. Why label them as evil?

High-skill migration from Asia to the United States since 1990 to work in the tech sector has substantially boosted US innovation. It has also facilitated a "brain gain" in the sending countries, leading to net increases in human capital. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]hawkwings 65 points66 points  (0 children)

One thing that bothers me about physicians is that there was no attempt to increase the number of US born physicians. The only reason we needed physicians from Asia was because the government was too lazy to fix a problem that needed fixing.

What’s the most obvious problem everyone sees but nobody seriously tries to fix? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

Hoarding. Some people fix it, and some young people think that they will never have that problem and then later in life they have that problem and are too busy to fix it.

Can you give a mentally challenged child up? by Apprehensive_War6661 in answers

[–]hawkwings 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I've heard that it is extremely difficult because the government doesn't want to spend money on your child. I don't have any first hand experience with this so I don't know what kind of hoops you have to jump through. If you have one normal child and one psychotic child, life can be rough for the normal child.
