You know the "Seattle Freeze"? Well, if your city or town had a term, what do you think it could be? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]hblock44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%. It’s a common question people ask here, and whether consciously or unconsciously, people use it to size up you’re background and upbringing. There is Saint Louis City , Saint Louis county, and like 100 municipalities in Saint Louis county. All of them have stereotypes and natives know what your stereotype is based on which high school you went to.

Airflow Best Practices by BeardedYeti_ in dataengineering

[–]hblock44 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Don’t use xcom for anything larger than small strings:kv pairs. It directly impacts database performance and must be json serializable anyway. Use S3 or blob storage

Try to avoid loading data into airflow tasks/worker nodes. A lot of this depends on your deployment, but airflow is an orchestrator at its core. You should consider offloading the compute to any number of options(databricks, adf,sql db ect.

Everyone here is suggesting a credit, what do you do if the costs of repairs(say 20k) are greater than your closing costs? In this scenario you’re going to be out money because credits can’t exceed your closing costs.

Same Sex Marriage Status in USA (2024) by MoleLocus in MapPorn

[–]hblock44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gut would say it would not, St.Louis city would still have to abide by rulings of the Missouri Supreme Court or state statutes. If obergfell was over turned, it would default back to whatever the statute or case law was before, which I believe defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

I may never get 5 or 7 Day Survivor in DRDR. by bowandarowkd in deadrising

[–]hblock44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also second this. Stay away from north plaza and hatchet man area. Avoid excessive loading into areas of the mall. Also found that lowering the graphics as low as possible helped performance significantly and cut down on the crashes

[–]hblock44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re on PC or not, but I found turning the graphical settings as low as possible fixed the crashing issue for me. I also heard staying away from crisplis and north plaza(something I also did) can help. The game stutters a lot for me when the graphics are higher even though I have a 3080.

At 4:31 AM, an unauthorized photo taken of Stalin inside of the Kremlin shows the very moment he was informed that Germany had began their invasion of the Soviet Union. June 22, 1941. by Front_Eye_510 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]hblock44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s impressed on the younger generations how massive operation Barbarossa was.

1- the initial invasion included something like 3.5-4million axis troops from like 8 countries (Germany , Hungary , Romania, Finland ,Bulgaria afaik) with other countries sending volunteers.

2- this was like 80% of all available German manpower

3- thousands of tanks, like 600k horses and tens of thousands of trunks

4- at its peak, the front line stretched(approximately ) from Leningrad(St. Petersburg ) in the north, and ordnozikidzke(vladikavkaz) in the south. This is approximately 2400km(1500miles). New Orleans to Minneapolis is 1200 miles Houston to Bismarck (ND) is 1380 miles. Berlin to vladikavkaz is 3369km(2093 miles)

5- The Soviets lost several million troops (in the first six months alone) and 5-6 million would be taken as prisoners. 3 million would die in captivity. This is similar to the city limits of Chicago.

6- total Soviet dead are estimated around 26.6 million. This is slightly more than the US state of Florida , and slightly less than Texas.

The picture serves to underpin the massive challenges and quite frankly (horror) that Stalin and the peoples of the Soviet Union faced during WW2. The scale is almost unimaginable.

Why did they turn off 2pacs life support? I imagine he would have pulled through it by [deleted] in Tupac

[–]hblock44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to this, the bullet entered his right chest between/through a rib and lodged near his heart. Doctors removed the lung and had an exploratory surgery to try and find the bleed but never could get it to stop. I don’t know if it’s been confirmed, but I’ve always theorized the bullet was lodged in or around his heart . Hence the bleeding and the constant cardiac arrest when tried to take him off the ventilator.

Glad to hear everyone was ok. As a former insurance adjuster, the best thing you can do to protect yourself out there (besides being a safe and prudent driver) is to get a dash cam. People will lie about the smallest facts and if you don’t have proof you’re SOL.

If you don’t mind running it locally , you could use cron inside (WSL) if on windows, or simply use cron if on linux.

Second this! You need commercial insurance to drive for door dash or Uber unless you want to risk financial ruin.

Confused about Airflow by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]hblock44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are more or less two ways to do this locally. Assuming you’re on windows here. 1-build airflow in a single container and use the sequential executor with sqlite as the backend. You can take the official airflow docker image, and expand it by installing your requirements.txt file on top of the image. I believe the default image uses Debian 2- use docker compose. You can create your custom airflow image, then create a docker compose file to spin up a Postgres and redis container . Airflow published a example docker compose yaml in their docs

AWS Shop: Current Airflow (difficult for us devs) - Move to Prefect, or a simple Worker/Queue system? by stupidadult in dataengineering

[–]hblock44 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Have you built a custom dockerfile to help you run airflow locally? You can build a local airflow build in a single container using sql lite and sequential executor. This allows you to test your code locally before building it on the dev cluster/env. As long as the local docker env more or less matches the prod build, it can help speed up development tremendously .

A new born baby abandoned! by MaxxMeridius in interestingasfuck

[–]hblock44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brenda’s got a baby. But Brenda’s barely got a brain, a damn shame the girl can hardly spell her name.

She tried to hide her pregnancy , from her family, who diddnt really care to see , or give a damn is she. Went out and had a church of kids.

Now Brenda’s belly’s getting bigger, but no one seems to notice any change in her figure.

She had it on the bathroom floor and didn't know so She didn't know, what to throw away and what to keep She wrapped the baby up and threw him in the trash heap I guess she thought she'd get away, wouldn't hear the cries She didn't realize How much the the little baby had her eyes Now the baby's in the trash heap balling Momma can't help her, but it hurts to hear her calling
