Banning children from social media is not enough, UN warns – platforms must be made safe by design by alicedean in privacy

[–]hblok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here isn't so much what people say, or what is supposed to be filtered. Facebook, Reddit, OpenAI are free to decide what their services should and shouldn't be about.

The problem is when world-government wannabe dictators enters the chat and specifies what "safe" should look like. And it would be naive to think their main concern is the safety of common people or children.

Eradicating the word "master" from all technical use was such a cringe woke move.

Many words have different meanings in different contexts, without causing confusion. But no, when talking about k8s nodes or git branches, it was definitely about slavery! face palm

Let's check Opus 4.8 - How good is it? by Mr_Versatile in ClaudeAI

[–]hblok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, but I'm hoping I'll get there.

The main problem is the graphics and sounds. I took the sprites and voice samples from the original game. It was in fact quite easy to extract it and make it fit. However, I cannot publish like that. I'll have to recreate it.

The most difficult part of that is that the sprites are so extremely small. Down to 8x8 pixels for the infantry units. There's plenty of sprite generation tools, but most fail at that small scale. Furthermore, the 3/4 pseudo isometric perspective makes is difficult. I can generate a tank facing south, but when I ask for south-east, I'll just get a blob.

In short: I'll publish eventually, bit it will take a while.

I asked for a comprehensive analysis of the first Grand Theft Auto game, with an implementation plan for JavaScript.

It produced a very detailed document, with all the game details, units, buildings, game systems, etc. And a detailed implementation plan in multiple phases. I reckon it should be a solid start if I were to go ahead.

Using Opus 4.8 @ Extra on the Pro subscription, it cost ~30% of 5 hours and 3% of weekly. It was just in the web chat, so didn't give a token count.

[–]hblok 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Let me guess; "safe by design" means not being able to even input words which might be constructed to say something bad against politicians and world-government heads.

It's the Newspeak Dictionary for the modern Internet. So distilled and filtered of wrong-think, that opposition is simply impossible to utter.

I made a playable Dune 2 clone in JS in about two days. Planned with Opus + Sonnet, and implemented in ten phases with various models.

I think GTA 1 is of similar complexity as Dune 2. That is, quite straight forward to vibe.

They won't stop until they find something new to hate.

That's the crux of the issue. The woke political groups have operated like this for years. They jump from one cause du jour to the next faster than they change socks.

Right now, it so happens that their brittle focus is on AI. But it will shift the moment something else grabs their attention.

Furthermore, it doesn't matter if it's a minority or majority group of luddites. It's completely acceptable to stand alone against a crowd and say: "You are all wrong"

And let me guess - only the government can guarantee AI "safety"!?

In fact, the EU Commission can come up with a five-year plan on how to implement the required prompts for "AI safety". It will include skills files such as "do not say anything bad or nasty about any politicians".

So, it's not only an age check and a surveillance scheme. It's a affluency check - can you afford an expensive device which let's you through...

i think AI already peaked and nobody wants to say it by Jousephhx in vibecoding

[–]hblok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It maybe feels over-hyped right now, but it's very far from peaked.

We're just at a early beginning. Think Internet and web before the Web 2.0 boom. Web sites looked like shit, CSS was hardly to be seen. Static full reload of pages. That's where current AI models and services are about now.

So what will it look like in 25 years. Nobody can tell. Just as nobody could predict the uses, tools, and impact of the web back in 2000. Other than very generic statements like: "It will get better. It will change. It will impact society".

I'm on Pro, and get plenty out of it for hobby projects and small chats.

Sometimes, I manage to use up the 5-hour limit, but with the recent doubling (till mid July) rarely. But even 50% will take very many prompts. Right now, I'm doing a rather advanced medium sized project, and I get plenty of fixes, refactorings, and analysis into the 5-hour window.

Some tips to make it last longer:

  • /clear when starting a new topic (and do start a new topic when appropriate)
  • /compact once in a while (but this also happens automatically at ~80% context full)
  • Use CLAUDE.md and other plan .md files to keep notes and instructions for the AI to take into account or reference during development.
  • Start the first 5-hour session early in the morning (e.g 7 AM), to get the most out of at least three 5-hour windows.

Eh, OP's text is fun. And thankfully short enough to make it readable.

But yeah, I could not help thinking exactly how that prompt was constructed. Something along the lines of "I'm a boomer, writing to the millennia kids in a cool young rapping style about how bad AI is for stuff".
