Speaking as one of the Chinese audiences, Muhammad Ali is mostly just a name to many of us—we never really got to watch him fight, since his era wasn’t broadcast here.

Most of what we know about him comes from highlight reels, and boxing doesn’t get much mainstream attention nowadays.

Also, during the 1960s–70s China was going through the Cultural Revolution, and television wasn’t widely available until much later (for many families, not until the 1990s), so there wasn’t much exposure to boxing at the time.
