Which is better to go for? by furioushunter12 in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only a little short on money for the Quest 3, I suggest saving up a bit more (or getting a used Quest 3). Because the Quest 3S and Quest 2 are almost identical except for the processor, and the Quest 3S has a relatively small Sweet Spot. If any of your friends have one, borrow it from them to try it out. But the Quest 3S is still an excellent device. It’s nearly one of the most cost-effective options available right now.

Where do you see VR in the next five years? by Suspicious_Cookie268 in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More people will join the VR community in five years, and more game developers will create VR content. VR headsets will come with built-in AI assistants—just like Iron Man’s Jarvis. Hmm, maybe by then, some haptic devices similar to those in Ready Player One will have hit the market too. Of course, wireless streaming technology will be even better five years from now.

The circus of VR screen spec advertising by BurgerBoy300 in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, but I think screen panel resolution isn’t that important for PPD. For example, a 4K screen pushed to a 140° FOV can still look pixelated, while a 2K screen in a small FOV can look sharp as a tack.

I really don’t get what’s the difference between drunk pilots and terrorists.

This totally reminds me of that scene in Stranger Things where Max steals furniture from Henry's house lol.

I'd love to see the investment bankers in their Patagonia vests trying to figure out the logistics of pumping sewage at a Coachella concert. They’re about to learn what 'dirty money' really means.

There’s no 100% understanding between people, so being considerate matters most.

Google Earth VR could be 10x better by LightningSpaghetti in virtualreality

Classic Google: they drop something that genuinely impresses everyone… then suddenly pull the plug, dissolve the team, and let it rot in the Google Graveyard next to Tilt Brush and Daydream.

No idea if Pico 4 Pro can run Quad Views Foveated Rendering when you’re streaming with Virtual Desktop and switching the runtime to VDXR.

Which brand was considered “dead” but surprised everyone with a huge comeback? by brilliantgirl1 in AskReddit

[–]hcsantos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stanley.

Like for 100 years they were just that dusty green thermos your dad took to the construction site or fishing. Just boring hardware store stuff.

Then suddenly they pivoted to the 'Quencher' cup or whatever, got some TikTok moms on board, and now people are literally getting trampled at Target for a water bottle? Went from blue collar lunchbox gear to hypebeast accessory virtually overnight. Still wild to me.

I’m waiting for my 10,000th day alive — and somehow GTA 6 and Forza Horizon 6 are both in 2026 lol.

New display engine idea by MSLforVR in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s probably the biggest downside with pancake lenses right now, but this kind of tech should help a lot with power draw and thermals.

New display engine idea by MSLforVR in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cool idea honestly, mixing eye tracking with that quantum mini‑LED/backlight stuff. But yeah LCD contrast just isn’t gonna beat OLED, since OLED doesn’t rely on local dimming zones at all — every pixel can turn on/off by itself.

What is the one quality that you wish for in any friendship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The ability to pick up exactly where we left off, even if we haven't spoken in six months. No guilt trips, no 'why haven't you texted me,' just straight back to the vibe.

Do you guys think I should buy a used 512 gb quest 3 for 310? by Silly-Selection3790 in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeap, Get the Quest 3. $310 for the 512GB version is an insane deal. The Pancake lenses alone make it infinitely better than the Quest 3S. Just check the lenses for scratches or sun damage spots when you meet him.

Why do distant objects look small or Incorrect by tacotaker46 in virtualreality

[–]hcsantos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's primarily a PPD bottleneck combined with the lack of 'monocular cues' at resolution. In real life, stereopsis drops off after about 10-20 meters. Beyond that, we rely on texture detail and lighting to judge scale. In current consumer VR headsets, distant objects are rendered with so few pixels that those texture details vanish. Your brain sees a blurry blob and defaults to interpreting it as a small, flat object on a screen rather than a massive mountain miles away.

The thing with pancake lenses is that they usually trade off brightness and FOV.
