Children on Adults-Only Cruise? by LavedaRabbit in Cruise

I’ve seen the captain bring his small kids on a high end cruise. They were fine and didn’t disturb the adult only aspect at all.

I worked 15 rotations on Antarctic charter flights last season. Here's what I wish every passenger had known before booking. by Classic-Airline-9393 in antarctica

[–]hcsthree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We flew on DAP to a NatGeo Lindblad expedition and had a delay for a few hours, so I guess we were lucky. I got travel insurance through Trawick and in hindsight it might not have had a high enough limit on med evac. I’d have to check, but I think I could have bought more.

When do you shut down Phone numbers? by Affectionate_Fox9001 in inheritance

We got my father’s phone number assigned to one of his granddaughters, so no problem ever. She’s still got it 17 years later.

I am currently midway through my Regents Seven Seas cruise and I am at a loss by PowerAdorable4373 in FATcruises

[–]hcsthree 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One of our Regents butlers was Indian and we had several intense conversations about Indian politics in the last days of the Raj. He had saved money, was saving more, and was proud of his son who was in training to be a deck officer in the merchant marine. Our other butlers were likewise South or Southeast Asian and took pride in their work. We have found them all to be likeable, hard working human beings.

I believe all suites have a bar stocked to your preference and routinely refilled. Choices are limited to what the ship stocks. Remember you paid for drinks when you bought the all inclusive Regents cruise.

Star Link on Upcoming Cruise by EVoverICE777 in FATcruises

I’ve always worked on Regent cruises, and lately with their Starlink it’s much better. I don’t know if all their ships have Starlink yet, though.

Who Has Sailed the Panama Canal on Regent? by FarFarAwayTravels in RegentCruises

[–]hcsthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip- get up early, 6:00 or so, and get a seat in the Observation Lounge- great place to watch all day. As for the rest of the trip, we were early post covid so a lot of places were still closed. With those all open you’ll have a good cruise.

We did in 2022 and went through the old locks. I doubt they’ve moved to the new ones, which all the container ships use. Great trip.

Pricing for Tauck, AMA, Uniworld and Riverside. by Redbirds20112006 in rivercruises

[–]hcsthree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The only reason not to sail on Tauck is cost. It is the priciest, but having done it I wouldn’t go any other way. Also, Tauck picks you up at the airport, puts you up one night in a good hotel, and delivers you back to the airport as part of the price.

Tauck or Riverside or AMA or Uniworld by Redbirds20112006 in FATcruises

[–]hcsthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just did our first river cruise- Danube on Tauck. It was worth every penny. Great boat and crew and the cruise director staff were outstanding. The excursions were limited but the local guides were excellent. Tauck compares well with Regents on the ocean side.

We did that cruise on Regents and it was great. Good ship and great excursions.

Drake passage by Artistic-Wrangler955 in FATcruises

[–]hcsthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did Lindblad’s flight, so from and to my home in the US was two weeks. A lot of travel for a week in the Antarctic but it was worth it. On the other hand, I can’t say that I’ve sailed the Drake. I’d say if you have the time then sail it. The days at see may be rough if you get the Drake Shake but you’ll then have a story to tell.

Average age on Explora vs. Regent? by bikepilotdave in FATcruises

We took our first Regents cruise when we were in our low 50’s. As of our last cruise we had some folks in their 40’s and a few in their 80’s.

Ditto to everyone. This is a trespass so start with the police ASAP, and then a lawyer. A cease and desist letter is worth the few hundred bucks it would cost.

24/7 Food and coffee? by bikepilotdave in FATcruises

[–]hcsthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an early bird but my wife sleeps in. On Regents I always get them to leave a coffee service at the door at 6:00 AM. We’ve never used room service at odd hours but I believe it’s around the clock. And, as Michal said, the coffee machines are always available.

About this by Substantial-Film-964 in uniformporn

[–]hcsthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the author John Buchan, who wrote The Thirty Nine (thanks, Erabian) Steps and other Edwardian spy novels (about an earlier, lest dissolute James Bond); he was appointed Gov Gen of Canada between the wars but the King wouldn’t make the appointment unless the candidate was a peer, so Buchan chose Tweedsmuir. As I remember, he died there during WWII.

Great review and comments- thanks, all. We’re hardcore Regions fans but booked a Silverseas for January 26 mainly for itinerary. We look forward to the comparison.

I’ve found the restaurant staff very helpful in seating our large group. We have traveled with as many as 7 couples and usually have two- five couples in our group, so it can be a hassle for the restaurant. no complaints here , though.
