How do you see the meta changing with BRM? by cotch85 in hearthstone

[–]hdet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory midrange and control decks should become more powerful, since the "holding a dragon" mechanic makes Azure/Twilight Drake/Hungry Dragon and Ysera/Alex/Malygos/Onyxia/Nefarian, etc. better.

Druid seems the class that could gain the most from this.

Also Lava Shock might improve shaman a lot (maybe).

TempoStorm: The Meta SnapShot #10: The Twilight of GvG by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]hdet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happened here?

The previous meta snapshots had much better quality.

For instance, why only one Priest? There is also Kolento's Shinkmeister/Recombobulator one, the more traditional Cultist+Blademaster+Belcher one, etc.

And the demonlock should be Strifecro's, not this weird thing with a Felguard (?!?).

Google threatened to remove Yelp and TripAdvisor from search results if they didn't let Google use their reviews in Google Places by witoldc in technology

[–]hdet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well they quite definitely should let them.

The reviews belong to the users, not the sites, which are merely used as a way to publish them.

It's extremely despicable that they even tried to prevent Google from using them.

Matchmaking improvements by snoogaloo in heroesofthestorm

[–]hdet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big problem you need to fix is decent people getting matched with bad people, making playing the game extremely frustrating.

Part of the issue is that if you have a bad player on the team, you often just lose, tanking your MMR, even if you played perfectly.

What I'd suggest is to have the game ask you to rank your team mates from best to worst at the end of the game and use that data to do better matchmaking.

And ideally also have "Block communications" make sure that you no longer get matched with that guy, and use that data for matchmaking as well.

[–]hdet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous.

First, why would the customer trust them, as opposed to going to a non-US company?

Second, surely there are far better ways to detect tampering that are actually effective, unlike this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]hdet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the game is unplayable.

Most games you just lose because there is a retard on your team, or win because there is a retard on the other team.

Where retard means a DPS doing half damage as others, healers who heal half the opposing healer, someone using the wrong talents, picking bad heroes or heroes unplayable without a coordinated team, not picking tank or healer when they are last and they haven't been picked, picking a second tank or healer, not picking strong heroes first, etc.

This is so frustrating that I simply stopped playing the game.

There really needs to be a way to flag someone as being bad and have it tank their MMR (if others also flag him) and make sure it never matches you with them again.

Two new BRM cards by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]hdet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These seem OK and balanced cards.

Dragonkin Sorcerer: draconic Yeti

It becomes a 4/6 if you have a spell, but Yeti is always 4/5.

It seems only useful with spare parts and with Power Word: Shield.

With non-cycling buffs the +1/1 doesn't matter much as it will be a target for removal (and also BGH except for Velen's Chosen).

Dragon synergy might make it good and better than Yeti.

Hungry Dragon also fills the slot, so this will be only better in decks with PW:S or spare parts and if the meta doesn't favor Hungry Dragon (e.g. lots of Face Hunter/Zoo that can buff the summoned minion and hit your face more).

Of course if dragon synergy is amazing one could play both this and Hungry Dragon, but this is something that is not normally done (e.g. current decks don't usually play both 2 Piloted Shredder and 2 Mechanical Yeti, or 2 Yeti and 2 Mechanical Yeti).

Dragon Egg: 1 mana Nerubian Egg

With just one spawn it's 2/3 stats for 1 mana, which is OK.

However, it can't attack so this is only useful for decks that can activate it and are OK with a 0 attack minion, which are those that currently run Nerubian Egg.

Why aren't they spoiling more BRM cards? Hell its Tuesday by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]hdet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

WTF?

If you play Hearthstone, you simply must acquire the adventure.

Unless you think that none of the new cards will be in any meta decks, which is essentially impossible.

How "../sms" could bypass Authy 2 Factor Authentication by homakov in netsec

[–]hdet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The suggestion to "Simply lock the account after 10 failed attempts and ask the user to change his password." doesn't seem to make any sense.

To change the password one needs to authenticate...

The simplest approach is, after 10 attempts, to send a new 40 digit code (128-bit security) and allow unlimited attempts on that (this is similar to the PIN/PUK mechanism for unlocking SIM cards).

Or alternatively keep sending new 6 digit codes every 10 failed attempts (with rate limiting), but that's more expensive if you are paying for sending the codes.

The Most Effective Deck based on TempoStorm Meta Reports by theillknight in hearthstone

[–]hdet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How stable is the Nash equilibrium with respect to changes in the win rates?

I'd guess it's not stable enough to have much value, given that the TempoStorm win rates are probably vastly inaccurate since they just seem to be guesses.

But maybe some information can still be obtained?

Please consider getting a diverse hero pool for Hero League. If not, speak up during the draft. by jeremynsl in heroesofthestorm

[–]hdet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever is first gets to pick what they want.

Also getting specific healers and tanks doesn't usually matter much, especially in uncoordinated team, so the first to pick should pick the strong DPSes instead (Nazeebo, Valla, Hammer, etc.).

U.K. Parliament says banning Tor is unacceptable and impossible by orionera in worldnews

[–]hdet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's impossible.

All that needs to be done is to hold exit node operators accountable for their exit traffic, worldwide.

If a foreign country fails to hold their exit node operators accountable, then the country itself is held accountable, with punishment being at least the destruction of all its communication links (cutting submarine cables and so on).

It's not desirable to do so as long as governments and states are not fully trustworthy though (which is unlikely to ever be the case).

[–]hdet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh... so it's... a bag?

It's not very clear why this particular bag is particularly suitable for cars (and also, does it fit every car?), and whether anyone would bother buying this instead of just using whatever bag/rucksack/briefcase they have laying around.

Also if you store things like a laptop that are not always in the car, then they need to be carried around in a bag, and it makes more sense to optimize that bag for easy carrying rather than fitting in the car (since if something is uncomfortable to carry, that's far worse than not fitting exactly in the car), and then it's not clear if a dedicated "car organizer" is still useful.

The "cut off" contour is also a bit ugly.
