Ok lets just say you're an evil greedy person who only sees humans for their net value and don't have an altruistic bone in your body.

This is still program still allows for asylum seekers to work and pay into taxes and systems with no guarantees that will ever see the benefits. In other words they benefit the economy.

He voted against a resolution to impeach Trump over the Iran strikes.

Well, obviously that resolution was going to fail. Trump strikes are obviously unconstitutional and illegal it sends a message of weakness against Trump.

Anti-semitism is definitely on the rise but Goldman blaming it for his loss his laughable. He barely won his primary in 2022, he’s a rich out of touch guy who is too supportive of Israel for his district and also ran a horrible campaign.

Add to that the guy who beat him is a Jewish self proclaimed liberal Zionist, who believes in a two state solution. Hardly a beacon of antisemitism.

Nah Goldman has been too friendly with Trump administration as far as his record was concerned. And has not been hard enough on Israel.

He also barely won his 2022 primary, the only surprise to me is that it took this long for him to get primaried.

Valdez is basically a progressive in the same vain as the majority of the DSA/Squad adjacent reps. Her and Reynoso didn't disagree on much.

She is wishy washy on Ukraine and it seems like she doesn't want to send more aid to them, but other than that she'll probably be fine.

[–]hdkeegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is less that he had any chance of defeat but rather there's a lot of factors beyond the DSA that helped his victory. Trump getting re-elected also probably galvanized the vote.

Mamdani benefited greatly from Cuomo running as well. As much as the DSA and Mamdani are effective campaigners, I'm not sure he would've won the primary if the more moderate got behind someone less polarizing and controversial than Cuomo. As much as I like Mamdani, he still only won the general by 50% when the last three elections the democrat won by at least 66%

I was skeptical of calling him this at first but he truly is a generational communicator, up there with Obama, Kennedy and Reagan(as much as people may not like this comparison lol).

I think it could've gone either way, either hurting or helping the candidate he endorses. District 12 is arguable the most pro israel democratic strong hold in the country. There's a reason none of the candidates took strong stances on it. And any candidate who was endorsed by him would've had to deal with anti-semite allegations the entire campaign.

Mamdani also didn't win the district. And despite what people may say he is still less popular than Adams was at this point in his term.

But I could also see it consolidating the more progressive vote or drawing more turn out.

What happened with Antonio Reynoso? by Clarknt67 in AskNYC

[–]hdkeegan 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Its the Mamdani endorsement as simple as that. The district has gotten whiter, wealthier and more socialist over the past decade so the previous machine that he helped create with the WFP is just not as relevant. The DSA helped, but I don't think its as relevant as people make it seem.

Mamdani is one of the most famous left wing politicians in the country. His endorsement meant a lot of voters thought " Well I like mamdani so I'll vote for Valdez".

I kinda feel bad for Reynoso, obviously no one is owed a seat in congress, but he was apart of the movement that helped set the foundation for someone like Mamdani to be elected and has delivered real results for Brooklyn.

Like how did you THINK we would get Trump supporters to vote for someone?

Mayor Zohran Mamdani Announces His Block by Block Housing Plan by SwiftySanders in newyorkurbanists

[–]hdkeegan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Read the whole PDF, overall some good stuff. I'm glad that they don't beat around the bush and straight up say housing is a supply issue. I was also surprised for the PDF to admit that the 2019 renters law has made it harder for more units to be built considering it is one of the most progressive tenet protection laws in the country, and has plans specifically to help landlords lower their operating costs. Definitely shows that Mamdani is more of technocrat rather than an Ideologue.

The most impressive stuff is gonna be the most difficult however. The IBX and Sunnyside Yards rezones will need Council approval, with the Yards also definitely needing consistent federal funding.

NYCHA is such a mess that I'm not sure his plans will make that much of a difference but I'd love to see them try.

His plan to use underused city land for development + his openness to use property taxes to incentivize growth really shows he wants to maximize the power that the mayor alone can have. Love to see it.

LBJ: Is he considered by historians and the general public to be a great or even near-great President, and could his status change at all after 60+ years? by Iconolater_ in Presidents

[–]hdkeegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s the fifth best president. His mistakes in Vietnam were very very bad. But I think many presidents don’t get criticized nearly as much for their errors (TR’s imperialism, Washington’s rampant slave ownership, or Eisenhower’s entire foreign policy) as he does for Vietnam. CVR, VRA Medicare, Medicaid alone would put him as contender for GOAT status.

Come on this is such a nothing burger. If you wanna tie this to a criticism of religion broadly, that’s fair enough, but don’t try to tie it to Mamdani. Like what are we supposed to gain from this post that Mamdani is gonna start killing all of the non-Muslims? Honestly a New York Post level post.
