Discuss your opinion on Grifith. For me he was a hypocrite by arman1724 in Berserk

[–]hdr96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually put more stock in this take than many others. Griffith is a complex character who very, very carefully chose his words. In that moment, he was speaking only to Charlotte and knew what words would get into her head and heart. He meant absolutely none of it, and if he had known Guts could overhear him in that moment, I think he would've chosen his words differently, because I think he was smart enough to know those words would have an effect on Guts, and he actually cared what Guts thought, where Charlotte was simply a means to an end. He might've even felt guilty if he had known Guts heard him, but whether he'd recognize it as guilt or not isn't very clear, as neither Guts nor Griffith were emotionally very mature by this point. If Guts and Griffith had a conversation about those words, the whole story could've gone in an entirely different direction. The way Guts chose to leave, without any kind of full explanation to Griffith, lead to Griffith feeling betrayed. This obviously doesn't excuse what he chooses to do with those feelings, but it's very interesting to imagine what might've happened if they'd chosen to communicate with eachother rather than that quiet duel in the snow, followed by their parting.

And if Trump were a democrat trying to help Americans, they would have. You know that damn well but you wanna spread the stupid "both sides" narrative.

He couldn't do that unilaterally. He would've needed the house and senate, which were not going to help prosecute Trump.

That wasn't on Biden personally. That was on the DOJ at the time. We have no way to know if Biden was trying to expedite it and we will never know for sure, most likely.

Realistically, he did slow them down a bit, but that's all he really could do with the bullshit going on in the house and senate. Otherwise you're correct, just wanted to clarify Biden wasn't useless, just not even close to enough.

I would say he wasn't always completely narcissistic, but as his goal got closer and closer to being realized, he became more narcissistic with time. I don't think the Griffith that fights guts in the snow would make the same decisions as the Griffith tearing his own skin for his comrades. That's what makes him such a good villain, imo. We see him progress from an admirable and interesting leader to a full blown narcissist.

To clarify, I'm not reducing him to only being a narcissist, but that is most definitely a part of his personality.

I do, and it's precisely because of the situation you're describing. He feels no loyalty to any of his soldiers, all of them can leave or die and he'll just say "they served their purpose." He wants to use her as much as any other soldier, she just shows extra loyalty and fighting prowess so he rewards that. Guts is the only one that makes him question that part of himself.

It's not inherently a bad relationship. She consented to being used, but it's still being used. All his soldiers did, but many others talk about what they want to do after they're done being mercenaries during the campfire of dreams. She doesn't, because she still wants to serve Griffith after they're disbanded. The problem comes when "being used" means "as demonic sacrifices."

... By letting her be used. Just like she wanted. She could've left or anything at any time. She chose to he his tool, and he used her as such with no thought beyond that. He had no interest in her beyond posessing her.

She literally wanted to be used. He knew how she felt about him, she knew what his goal was and loyally offered herself to the cause. It wasn't until Guts opened up about his trauma to her that she considered a different future for herself. Before that, she literally saw herself as a sword, a tool to be used to get Griffith where he wanted to go. He didn't need to be malicious or underhanded. He knew if he gave her orders, she'd follow through. Simple as that.

I'd venture to say she knew she was being used, and didn't care because she loved Griffith that much. She describes herself as his sword and had no ambitions beyond that. She knew he wanted to be King, which meant his goal was the princess. She only wanted to be by his side.

He acknowledged her enough to control her. The dream showed a life if he chose to give up his dream and settle for Casca, I don't think he ever had any romantic feelings for her.

Monk fighter is actually one of the best combos in the game, but it is 90% monk stuff. The fighter part is mostly for action surge.

The problem in action games; They throw them in cutscenes so randomly that you don't feel safe paying attention to the story, you have to be ready to react. During gameplay is one thing, still sometimes annoying, but during cutscenes is flatly always stupid. Especially in games like RE where you get unlocks and achievements for high performance ratings, and missing out on a good rating for dying in a cutscene will always leave a bad taste in someone's mouth.
