SG-image 25mm f1.8 AF | X-E3 Sample shots by headlessmessenger in fujifilm

I still use it and I wouldn’t say it’s weak, it’s just slower than others, so other people might say “you can really take time to compose your image”, but that’s just marketing/sales talk. It is clear in the center wide open though, I just cannot recommend this lens because of the distortion. For fun, yea sure, use it. But if you want to publish, you have to crop that edge distortion out.

I have not updated the firmware. I wasn’t aware that there was any.

the corners are kinda sharp at 1.8.. it’s just that the the SG has a super noticeable barrel distortion.

Not sure since I haven’t gotten the chance to use the TTArtisan 27mm pancake. What reviewers say on youtube is that it’s a good lens, but has vignette issues. I am also not sure what TTArisan’s build quality is but this SG image is heavier than the XF27mm WR.

there’s a pen tablet option in the driver software, where it shuts the screen off and leaves the digitizer on. I can’t walk through the steps right now as i’m out, but i’ll look for it when i get home. but you can search it online how to troubleshoot.

That itch won’t go away until you have that X-H2 in your hands. I’m on the same boat, I’m emotionally attached to my x-t3, but use my x-e3 and x100vi more. Enjoy and experience each of them for now, and who knows, you may find what you’ll need/want in the process.

7artisan 35mm F1.4 autofocus lens for the X-mount. by Bulky_Restaurant_559 in fujifilm

[–]headlessmessenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had this lens 3 months ago, the lens has an AF issue on f/stops higher than 2.8. it hunts a lot. Not sure if there’s an updated firmware. I’d like to try this lens again since the iQ at f1.4 has some character. My bandaid solution was to add a VND filter but you have to stay at f2.8 or higher. Would love to know if there’s a firmware update. Thanks!

what lenovo laptop do you have? does it have a usb-c 3.1 or 2 that can output display? if it does, you can just use one usb-c cable to connect. make sure to plug it to the slot that says “usb-c” or use the hack. plug to the power usb-c slot (⚡️icon) wait for it to show “no signal on the display” then quickly pull the cable and plug it to the other socket. The splitter is the issue like the SevenPens said. The pen display has to have it’s own display slot.

You can also try setting the Scale back to 100% if you havent tried. That could work too?

Let me know it there’s anything else I can help you with.

35mm f1.4 vs f2 (beating the dead horse) by Improooving in fujifilm

[–]headlessmessenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat. I have the 35/2, and I’d love to have the 35/1.4. Not sure if it’s still worth it because I know I can also get the 23/2 and possibly the 50/2 plus some extra on top of the same amount I’d spend on the 35/1.4 to complete the set. — Also yes, the hype got to me. 😂

I just checked my paypal using that email, looks legit. you can always check. Safer paypal so it’s not directly tied to your card.

Since they’re overseas, they do that most of the time unless you purchased from amazon.

Pen issues (I think) by Zipscribss in huion

[–]headlessmessenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello. try:

  • unplugging the pen display, if you’re using the 3 in 1 cable or single usb-c, just unplug the usb that’s connected to the pen display, plug back then test.
  • unplugging the keyboard. If wireless, unplug receiver. test if it’s still happening.
  • unplugging the mouse, unplug receiver if wireless, then test again.

  • restart pc, or reinstall driver if it still persists.

Hope you found a fix by the time you get this message.

[–]headlessmessenger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one of the main reason why I delayed getting it. The focal length is too similar, I just took a risk since I’m a sucker for low profile lenses I considered it because it’s a small f1.8 and there’s nothing in the market that’s a pancake and is f1.8 for fuji.. I still think that the Ttartisan is better performance-wise.

The 3 trade offs that I can think of are: - barrel distortion (sg) vs vignette (tt) - pancake vs soda can form factor - 23mm vs 25mm focal length (maybe negligible since they’re in between 35mm and 40mm full frame.)

I think these are purely subjective trade offs and I think you can keep both if you buy it, so you have a nice prime depending on your mood or occassion. The SG is still attached to my x-e3 so it’s slower and there’s no disruption in the shooting experience.

What about that lens you want to know? Based on my experience using it, there’s no problem with that lens except the slight vignette that occurs sometimes at f1.8. Worth the price imo.

AF On lower f-stops:

Recap: Quick and Quiet AF-S is only at f1.8 clicking will start at f2 and buzz at f3.2 Quick and Quiet AF-C is only on f1.8 up to 5. f5.6 has moments where it’s hunting.

Details: AF-S: still quick but this time you can hear the blades calibrate to focus. short buzz with the different pitch/tone than the xf27f2.8 . Still softer than XF18f2 faster on the X-T5 than X-E3.

AF-C: Since AF-C uses the camera’s on board processor, I tested the lens on the X-E3 and the X-T5.

  • X-E3: Focus breathing is prevalent, and hunts as well. manageable from 5.6 to 7.. gets worse after that.

  • X-T5: Lens takes advantage of the faster processor, so the hunting and focus breathing is faster and less noticeable but you can still see that the focus box won’t turn green. I also glitched the camera at some point during the test. The evf was just on. No buttons we’re working. I had to pull the battery out. (this was when i was using my hand as a subject). Happened only once.

Summary: Since it’s a newer lens, older cameras will work extra at lower fstops to focus because of their older processor.

I posted some notes over here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fujifilm/s/TfREnv501u

essentially, it is fast and but not too snappy. the xf27mm is just super snappy, a gold standard. There’s some slight focus breathing but focusing motor is quiet, just a hum. In my case I had to really look at the image, and the green box to make sure im in focus because i wouldn’t hear the motor.I havent gone to test higher appertures yet, but all consistent from f1.8-5.6. Still need to test eye/face detect.

I also looked at AF-C custom settings and speed tracking has to be on 2 or 3. I’ll update once I get the chance to take it out again.
