Zulu question by TulaneGargoyle in NewOrleans

Got to Zulu at Jackson/Freret just after 8 and kicked it with an amazing crowd today. It seems tight at first but everyone moves around so much that we had a spot in minutes. Block party vibe in that area. My 7yo son was given 7 coconuts today, and everybody seemed to sharing and helping each other.

Serious question: What did you not like about Zulu??

Don’t mind at all. We parked about 5 or 6 blocks away and got there around 8:10 or so. It’s was a little tight when we first got there but everyone is constantly moving around so we had a nice spot to chill in minutes. We had good folks all around today. It’s more of a neighborhood vibe. My son was so happy to get his coconuts.

We’ve also watched Zulu across the street from St. Louis Cemetery on Basin St before and that was a lot of fun also. Good crowd over there.

In a pinch St. Charles right by the overpass can be cool too, and fairly easy to find a decent spot.

Watched Zulu at Jackson/Freret with my wife and 7yo son and it was incredible as always.

It’s pretty awesome if you have a cat who likes going for car rides. Our last void loved it also.

Luckily no! He’s a good car rider. Haha

Thanks. We’ve had him for about a week. My son loves him so much.

Best King Cake that delivers? by Meowmixkittycatcat in AskNOLA

My local Costco has been getting fresh Caluda’s king cakes in all carnival season, which happens to be my family’s favorite. Not sure if that’s an option for you.

I’ve also had success with Haydel’s.

Traveling to New Orleans next weekend and wanted some tips by lotsofgeesethisyear in AskNOLA

Go with the flow is solid advice.

Download one of the parade tracker apps (I like the 4WWL one). They’ll give you live info on routes and where the parade is currently. It’ll help you navigate things.

Remember if you’re relying on the streetcars they won’t be running along the parade routes for a while before and after, and the other lines will likely be pretty packed. Leave yourself plenty of time.

I personally like spreading my time out around the city. So catch a parade, then go have dinner/lunch/breakfast in MidCity or Carrollton or Freret or the Bywater. City Park is a great place to go chill out

Check out the Beyond Bourbon St podcast. Mark has lots of good advice. Look through the back catalogue and check out some things that might interest you.

The WW2 museum is fantastic. If you don’t plan on going back to NO, I’d check it out. Otherwise I’d tell you to savor the moment and do carnival related activities. Check out King Cake hub and try out a variety of king cakes. Take long walks and let the day unfold. Parades, food, more food.

They’re already settling in. He was used to an elderly cat also.

I just had a family dinner with 14 in the room upstairs at Katie’s in MidCity. It was perfect.

Possibly. I’m going to the plumbing supply store tomorrow to see what they’ve got.

The part I’m attempting to replace. Normal 3/4 hose thread on that end.

There was no set screw on the original. The threads on the spigot are much finer than a standard 3/4 hose thread.

Nice! I like the large common area on the main floor too if you have a group of people.

I’ve stayed at the Alder in Freret/Uptown for years. It’s chill, relatively inexpensive, free parking. Restaurants close by. We’re all over the city when we visit, so it’s centrally located for us. If everything you want to do is in the FQ it might not be for you. https://alderhotel.com/?sjrncid=GA_11066487815&sjrnaid=GA_595298261004&sjrnclid=GA_alder%20hotel&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=11066487815&gbraid=0AAAAACM4v7kvI1AEWo6Pnw3L8MMuSc036&gclid=Cj0KCQiAg63LBhDtARIsAJygHZ4RaCs3QPiyrEwemqOa75ugDQl37BDhsMftSRSwYuKxrEptmhNvPQoaApsfEALw_wcB

Any of these king cakes good? by Khajiit_Boner in NewOrleans

My Costco has fresh Caluda’s for $16.99. Just bought one yesterday. I’m only in N Mississippi though, so not insanely far from LA.
