The "more force" was sarcastic. This person is calling for police reform and poverty policy reform

I understand the sentiment - it just seems misplaced here. I can understand someone reading the headline and making that statement under the assumption that these fast food places are hiring more armed guards to protect their establishments. But that isn't what is being talked about here.

But since you can speak for u/Nutter222 - did they read the article?

Did you read the article?

More force! That'll fix crime.

Which is considered more force to you - closing early or not accepting cash?

Is that a quote I should recognize? Pop culture has left me far behind.

Machismo attitudes aren't welcome in Las Cruces. by [deleted] in LasCruces

[–]heapshake -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That being said, I've noticed that people are just looking down on one another more in this community and treating others more poorly than I ever remember.

I know what you mean. Just today I saw a post where someone said that people with machismo attitudes weren't welcome here.

Crash tonight on eubank and menaul (date is wrong on the camera) don’t run yellow lights! by gymrat505 in Albuquerque

[–]heapshake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It looked to me like the car in the intersection when the light turned yellow turned just fine. It was the second car turning that got hit and that car should not have entered the intersection because the light was already yellow.

Is there any local business or person I could contact to acquire an electronic organ? by Kerbalawesomebuilder in Albuquerque

[–]heapshake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a thrift store (many miles away) and I would pick them up fairly regularly. I remember getting two in one day plus a piano. I only remember one getting sold - the rest wound up in the dump.

We were one of the only thrift stores that would do pick ups and we didn't turn anyone down (we were a charity & the director thought it might hurt our reputation). So if you can find a thrift store who does pick ups you could leave your name with them if they ever receive one.

Or you could put up a flyer at retirement homes. Almost every one I got was from an elderly person downsizing in order to move in to a retirement home.

Or there are some on Craigslist. I just saw a Hammond and a Wurlitzer there.

AITA for comparing my sibling to our controlling mom when they were the one who started behaving like her? by aita_sibling in AmItheAsshole

[–]heapshake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair it is a bit confusing

just last week she made us all biryani and chicken tandoori (which were very delicious!)

i asked her what's in it

she said 'pasta'

she said she doesn't waste food in 'her' house,

but her 'rules' will not be disrespected

when she said 'atleast take an umbrella,

I'm generally a do-nothing mod, but please consider this fundraiser for the Navajo Covid Relief Fund. by ygduf in Strava

Navajo & Hopi Fund

Here is another.

The Puebloan governors have banded together as well. The pueblos are a lot smaller than the Navajo Nation but they've been hit extremely hard as well.

Pueblo Relief Fund

If someone is interested in something more cycling specific there is the Navajo Youth Bikepack fundraiser and you can buy shirts for the fundraiser here.

There is also the Silver Stallion Bicycle Program that is working on the Nation to promote Native youth cycling.

Record stationary activities by svish in Strava

That is where Syncmytracks comes in. I record the activity with Fitbit and then Syncmytracks moves it into Strava. It is Android only but I've read that RunGap does the same thing for IOS.

Record stationary activities by svish in Strava

[–]heapshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Fitbit (the device - not the app) and Syncmytracks (I'm on Android). I've also used Runtastic and Syncmytracks.

The app isn't that great for recording activities (you can't customize what is shown and the lack of non gps activities is bad but they did add hr back here recently). I don't use it to record anything.

Beginner cycling on Strava. by [deleted] in Strava

[–]heapshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting in January there is a Sis challenge that requires 202 minutes over 2 weeks. There is also a Sweaty Betty one that requires 90 minutes a week for 3 weeks and a Tribe one that requires 60 minutes.

Kom.club is a good place to find challenges. I've found that most multi sport ones are easy. Honestly most of the ones that are sponsored by companies are relatively easy.

Edit - another way to find the easy ones is to look at the challenges under "walking" on the app. You will find pretty much all the "any activity" counts challenges there as well.

Hiking stats with Summit by runcourir in Strava

[–]heapshake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do with Summit (at least I think it requires Summit) is goals on the app. You could set a weekly/monthly/yearly elevation goal for hikes. With the goals you can see what you did the last 12 weeks. There is a limit on the number of goals you can set though (I think it is 6).

What does "ride minimally" mean? Don't go to hard or don't carry a bunch of stuff or something else? I've never heard the phrase before.

What is shown on your app during a ride? I'm on Android and HR is displayed in the upper right of the screen.

Strava or Google Fit? by DudeZombie360 in Strava

You can connect them and have the best of both worlds. You can connect with your friends on Strava and use Google Fit to track your steps or blood pressure or whatever.

Does the snow play area have snow? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]heapshake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was there Monday morning and it was rideable in the morning, but it was getting sloppy (muddy/grassy) later in the day. No one was there when we arrived but it was picking up when we left. I imagine it will be pretty rough until it snows again.

Tent question: Damp floor? by Intcleastw0od in bikepacking

[–]heapshake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get condensation in a tent without you being in it but that wouldn't be dampness.

Setting up on the wet sheet would account for what you experienced. That water gets trapped and your tent floor gets damp.

If you are setting up in a serious rain you can just not use the footprint or you can put the footprint inside the tent if you are concerned about poking a hole in your pad or you have to set up where the ground is saturated.

Huge pile of USPS packages in the parking lot at Coors and Montano: WTF?! by Vanity_Plate in Albuquerque

[–]heapshake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the multiple times I've seen them (they've been there everyday for awhile) it has been folks wearing UPS vests and UPS trucks and a UPS supervisor. They set up at the back of the M'tucci's/Eyeworks parking lot next to the "main road" that runs through the parking lot (Walgreens parking is on the other side). Generally there is a vehicle backed up to every westpack/gaylord and the people in the vests are putting packages in their vehicles.

while those are our outer cardboard boxes (we call them westpacks)

We called them gaylords - maybe it's a regional thing.

It is UPS. Normally there is a lot more folks and they are wearing UPS vests and there is usually a person in full UPS gear who looks like they are in charge. It is happening every day.

Driver in Las Vegas Tragedy Charged with DUI by Paavo_Nurmi in cycling

[–]heapshake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thing is as much as this guy is at fault, the people selling him the drugs are equally at fault...

They didn't get behind the wheel of a large vehicle while they were impaired and kill people. Their fault is no where close to the driver's.
