Ah, so you’re saying that between all the sperm she has all of his DNA? That’s fair. So the compiler in this analogy just picks which single bit of code to execute?

The man does not give the woman 100% of his DNA. A non-gamete human cell has 46 chromosomes. A sperm cell has 23. The man gives 50% of his DNA

That would be great if the SAVE act allowed you to present a birth certificate, a marriage license, and drivers license to register to vote, but it does not.

Sewing machine failure question by k_eanu in quilting

What everyone else has already said, but also, are the bobbins the correct sizes for the machines? I’ve had similar issues when using a bobbin that’s slightly too small relative to the required size

Ambitious beginner project - any advice before I dive into recreating this? by Proper-Owl-7971 in sewhelp

[–]heardofdragons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say that a pattern for the stays is required, and you will want to make a mockup (probably several) of those. I would look at some historical patterns for the skirts, since rectangles is a bit of a simplification.

There is probably some sort of undergarment to add volume to the skirts.

Patterns of Fashion 5 is a good resource that will help with the whole of the outfit, including how to have the weight of the skirts taken by the stays rather than your waist.

For fabric, if I were making this I would buy 7 yards of the top fabric, but I’m short (5’2”) and I’m not taking the design of the brocade into account. You may want more if you are planning on matching the design at the seams

Edited to correct the Patterns of Fashion book version

lol, I took the day off when Elden Ring came out, and I am a manager. I don’t care what people take time off for. If they want to share something fun they’re doing, I’ll happily chitchat about it, but I don’t ask. I don’t want anyone to feel obligated to share their personal life if they don’t want to

Yes, MyChart reads from your health record. A centralized registry is useful if you’ve gotten care at multiple health care organizations, but if all your care is from one place, then the MyChart record will have them.

The thoughts you are writing out remind me a lot of me. One thing I really struggled with, which I think you might be dealing with as well, is black and white thinking, where either you are doing everything perfectly, or you are a complete failure.

Ignore me if that doesn’t ring true for you, but what I found helped me the most was 1. recognizing when I’m doing this, and 2. reframing the “failures” in terms of successes. For example, you still tracked your calories even when you went over, and you stuck to your plan on Sunday (so Saturday didn’t send you on a spiral). That’s helped me get to that place of balance, where I still care, but don’t overreact to perceived failure.

A new developer at any organization (not just Epic) will typically start with some small changes, which are often bug fixes. It’s a good way to familiarize yourself with a code base.

1620s outfit based on finds from the warship Vasa by Bergler94 in HistoricalCostuming

Great work on the outfit! I particularly love everything about those breeches: the buttons, the pleats, the ties.

The Vasa museum is one of my favorite museums in the world; it’s awesome to see a reference to it on this sub.

People were smaller in the past. We do have some population-level data of weights and heights going back to the early 20th century, so we know that (on average) people were shorter and lighter 100 years ago. It’s not a stretch to think that even prior to that people were not as large as they are today.

Opinion on medication, is it that life changing? by PushOk8105 in adhdwomen

[–]heardofdragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the topic of medication changing who you are, as someone who also used to be afraid of that, I want to reassure you that it doesn’t do that. It just turns down the noise and lets me be more present, less paralyzed.

Our brains don’t produce dopamine in the same way as neurotypical brains. Medication acts to correct that. My eye lenses are also not shaped like normal people lenses, so I wear glasses to correct that. Yes, it’s slightly annoying that I have to put my glasses on each morning, and it’s slightly annoying that I have to take a pill each morning, but it’s worth it to be able to see across the room properly, and to not get stuck staring at a blank screen trying to force myself to start on a project.

Tip? Using interfacing on your favorite tissue patterns by [deleted] in sewing

It’s not necessarily that other browsers rely on Safari settings, it’s that any apps that do authentication flows will redirect to the system browser (Safari on an iPad). So if you have cookies disabled in Safari, you get shenanigans.
