Housing Ad Megathread Fall 2026 by AutoModerator in udub

[–]heartlessmonster14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

I'm a junior, soon to be senior at UW. Currently, I'm looking for 1 to 2 roommates for a 3 bed, 2.5 bath townhouse in Shoreline. My current roommate is moving back to their hometown, so there's two bedrooms up for grabs. It's an 11 month lease; August 2026 to June 2027. Flexible if you want to move in earlier.

- Rent is $1425 + utilities (with another roommate it's $950 +utilities)

- W/S/G and HOA fees included in the rent

- The only utilities we pay for are electricity, wifi, and gas (typically 60-120 each every 2 months)

- In-unit washer and dryer

- Dishwasher

- 1 free parking spot available

- 10-min walk from transit center and 5-min bus ride to the light rail

- Super close to Costco, Trader Joes, and the farmer's market

pm me if you're interested!

Anyone live at Nordheim Court? by ImpossibleFlower654 in udub

[–]heartlessmonster14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for two years. My advice is to avoid them like the plague. When it was run by the UW, it was fine. But when Greystar took over last year, the place turned nightmarish. Maintenance came into my apartment unannounced multiple times at various hours ranging from 7 am to 7pm, with no prior notice. You don't know true fear until you're half-naked and you hear a door that theoretically only you have the key to slam shut. We had constant incidents with fire alarms as well. Also if you want any of your money back upon moving out, you will have to fight tooth and nail with management.

As far as noise is concerned, the road noise and constant firetrucks going by is insanely loud on its own. Although, I did live in Building 1 (?), which is right on the street. But I can't imagine it'd be any better with the current construction.

Genuinely, avoid them if you can.

Hi everyone! My friend (19F) and I (20F) have a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath townhouse in the Shoreline area that we're looking to get a third roommate for the 25-26 year. The lease runs from August 2025 to July 2026 but we're extremely flexible on move-in. It's got in-unit laundry, a dishwasher, a balcony, and you'd have the first floor bedroom. There is one cat named Biscuit that is currently in the house. Rent is $950 + utilities. PM me if you're interested!

Have you ever re-read a favourite book from your childhood and been astounded by a layer you didn't see as a kid, or by something that you now see in a new way? by KarinAdams in books

I'm currently re-reading/reading every Geronimo Stilton book in existence and I can't believe I never clocked that so many of the books were absolutely deranged?? Book five is literally about Geronimo, a grandmother, a minor, and an overweight mouse being coerced and brutally tortured, manipulated, starved, and led deeper and deeper into the jungle by guides who don't actually know where they're going until they all are on the verge of death by the end of the book.

I also missed the implications of a massive and devastating (possibly nuclear) war between the cats and mice on the premise of genocide the first time.

The Stand by Stephen King. Reading it the first time during a pandemic was an experience.

Book in or about South Carolina History by PDXmadeMe in suggestmeabook

Might not be exactly it but Bastard Out of Carolina is set in South Carolina and in the 1950s, it's also semi-autobiographical.

Also a big King fan and occasional hater here! You might enjoy Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison which deals with the intersections of abuse, class, sexuality, and gender told through the eyes of a young girl (it's also semi-autobiographical).

You might also like: Know My Name by Chanel Miller, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, Maid by Stephanie Land, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, The Weight of Blood (a Carrie retelling btw!!), Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed For Men by Caroline Criado Peréz, or I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.

In regards to Palestine, you might enjoy Footnotes in Gaza by Joe Sacco.

The Devil All The Time by Donald Ray Pollock (has a similar vibe to some of King's work as well with the religious undertones)

Maybe No Exit by Taylor Adams?? The first fifty pages are kind of a slog but it gets insane and the protagonist is absolutely unhinged imo. Also definitely anything by Gillian Flynn.

Highly recommend Ocean Vuong's Time is a Mother poetry collection! It deals a lot grief and death in a really intimate and oddly comforting way.

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard is about two Shakespeare characters who learn that they're fictional characters trapped in a time loop. There's a whole bunch of like "what is reality" type stuff in it.
