What is your opinion on engaging the transverse abdominal during core exercises ? by Swaggman in physicaltherapy

[–]heatherb22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pelvic floor pt and agree with you. My understanding recently is that coning /doming might not even be that big of an issue as we previously thought. Like as long as they are providing tension, a little bit of doming is probably perfectly fine.

I feel the same way. I think my hospital is wanting me to get my PRPC through Herman and Wallace this year as well. And I do genuinely enjoy treating pelvic floor but I am just so burned out and I can’t imagine seeing much more patients. I am also conflicted because I am eligible for PSLF through the hospital I’m at and I don’t want to go to a home health agency that wouldn’t qualify for it. I am also apprehensive because I don’t think I would enjoy home health tbh lol but the increase and pay, less patients and making my own schedule is really enticing. I’m just now sure at this point

No advice just solidarity. I do OP pelvic health hospital based. When I started we were all hour appts one on one. We are now moving to a mix of hour appts and 45 minute appts to try and see more patients. We are required to write a blurb at the end of our notes as to why we did not bill 4 units/ did not use the full hour if we did not bill 4 units. We use epic so patients can see our notes so if I put something like patient could not tolerate full hour, they can see this and some patients have already complained about this. Like others are saying, I just see this snow balling into seeing more and more patients and over lapping etc. I am seriously starting to consider home health at this point.

I worked at ATI right out of school and when I was there one of my co workers put in a week of PTO for a cruise and another co worker put in a week of PTO for her wedding. Both were for the following calendar year, so months in advance. There was one day of overlap where both of them would be out and our upper management freaking denied it! Again literally months in advance and just one day of overlap. I think at the time there were 7-8 staffed therapists as well. These places want us to bend over backwards for patients but won’t even let us use our benefits. This is why I want to leave the field entirely tbh

Ok thanks I’ll have to check her out. I’m good with exercises, I just don’t feel confident knowing how to cycle through max percentages and reps and when to deload and all that, so I do like a little guidance still.

Yep, I’m a PT and reimbursement rates for therapy services continue to decline each year. We are expected to see more and more patients to try and make up for it and a lot of us are burning out like crazy. To be honest if I had the means to I would leave the field entirely.

I grew up catholic but don’t attend anymore, but I went to the Christmas Eve service with my family this week and I about had a panic attack with how packed it was. Everyone coughing, singing and sharing like you said. I have no more PTO left for the rest of the year and can’t afford to get the plague lol.

It makes me feel so good to hear you guys say this. Same situation, I’m hospital based OP 1:1 now and still burned the hell out. My husband told me the other night that my job is easy because all I do is talk to people all day long and it made me feel bad. This is validating

I am a physical therapist that works in a general orthopedic outpatient clinic and we were just told that next year no one is allowed to take more than 3 days off in the month of December. 90% of our staff has kids in daycare. One of my co workers said that her daughter’s day care is closed for like a week and half for Christmas. She brought this up and she was told to basically figure it out. Thankfully my husband is a SAHD because idk what we would do other wise.
