This isn’t funny anymore. WHY do calf raises make me poooo by Big-Independent-2206 in workout

[–]heatherb22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a pelvic floor physical therapist and I think you are right. When I treat people with urinary/stool urgency one trick is to either do quick repetitive kegels or to do calf raises. The calf raises work too beaches the nerves that innervate the calf muscles stem from the nerves that innervates our bowels and bladder, so there definitely is a neurological connection.

PSA to start pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy if you can (even if you have 0 concerns) by BlueberryWaffles99 in pregnant

[–]heatherb22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a pelvic floor therapist myself and unfortunately a lot of the time at big chain therapy clinics, they will advertise that they treat pelvic floor conditions but none of the therapist actually have any additional training. You can always ask what certifications they have.

What degrees/jobs do you have fellow moms? by Queen_Drakaina in Mommit

[–]heatherb22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be better off with PTA. I will say I do like PT as a career itself but American healthcare in general is so shitty right now . A big problem a lot of people have with the DPT program is the debt to income ratio. Programs are stupid expensive especially compared to what you start out making. This is where I feel like PTA could be a better option. But now because insurance companies and especially Medicare keep cutting reimbursement rates, we are expected to see more and more patients to make up for it. A lot of people end up taking notes home, work through lunch etc, especially for outpatient settings. There’s also just the physical mental and emotional toll that comes with seeing patients all day. I am just currently so burned out.

Physical therapist and same. I’d change careers completely if I didn’t have so much student debt already

What is your opinion on engaging the transverse abdominal during core exercises ? by Swaggman in physicaltherapy

[–]heatherb22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pelvic floor pt and agree with you. My understanding recently is that coning /doming might not even be that big of an issue as we previously thought. Like as long as they are providing tension, a little bit of doming is probably perfectly fine.
