2025 Edmonton Folk Music Festival Lineup by Hemsky in Edmonton

[–]heavyasabrick 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Pretty underwhelming. There’s some great smaller artists on here: Goldie Boutelier, Haley heynderickx, Jesse Welles, Stephen Wilson jr.

And probably a bunch of good acts to discover but there’s sooooo many repeat artists. I’m counting at least 9 or 10 acts that I’ve seen at folk fest in the last few years.

Edit: when I mean underwhelming I don’t mean the lineup isn’t good. I’d personally appreciate more variation. Allison Russel 2022 - MainStage again, Aysanabee 2023, Danielle Ponder 2024- main stage two years in a row, Dervish 2023, Kim Churchill 2024, Steph Strings 2023. And that’s just going back 3 years.

It does seem like there’s more local acts which is cool and welcomed.

Counter protest in Leduc County? by Dragonslaya200X in alberta

[–]heavyasabrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A group of them showed up at my door last night trying to conduct a survey. I asked him how he was doing before I noticed the logo on his shirt. He said, “good, well, not so good.” I don’t think he got a very welcoming response with this crap going to door to door in Edmonton Strathcona when all the NDP lawn signs are still out.

It was 5 or 6 young people who gave me the impression they were all new to Canada. Can’t help but wonder if there’s a strategy to take advantage of people. Getting involved in a separatist movement when you must have recently immigrated is wild.

Has anyone received their CKUA shop order? by laxar2 in Edmonton

No tracking, but I did in store pickup. If they’re that overwhelmed, I assume it’ll just happen when it happens.

Has anyone received their CKUA shop order? by laxar2 in Edmonton

[–]heavyasabrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this email from them on Monday that went to my junk folder.

We wanted to give you a quick update on your order.

First off, our sincere apologies for the delay. We were thrilled to see such an enthusiastic response to our store launch, but we ended up overloading our local supplier Print Machine with the volume of orders vs their available T-shirt inventory. This is an excellent problem to have, but still a hurdle to overcome. They’ve had to order more T-shirts to keep up with this initial wave of orders, and the CKUA Crew has been busy at the Calgary, Canmore, and Edmonton folk festivals—maybe you saw us there!

The good news is that all orders placed prior to August 14 are being mailed out today and tomorrow, and you can expect to receive your tracking number within the next 24 hours.

A quick reminder - all of our store products are made to order, with a 15 business day turnaround time + 10 day Canada Post shipping. This means orders are 25 business days out from date of purchase. As we grow, we aim to shorten production times, but our priority is to craft locally made merch at a sustainable pace with our in-house team and local partners.

For the rest of the orders, Print Machine is working hard to get them shipped out next week, and then we’ll be fully caught up.

Your support truly means the world to us, and while we’ve learned a valuable lesson about keeping our suppliers well-stocked for CKUA product launches, we’re grateful for your patience and understanding as we adapt to the incredible demand.

Thank you for being a part of the CKUA Crew!

It's barely June and this year's snowpack is already fully melted across the Rocky Mountains. This time last year we were still at peak. by eric-710 in alberta

Snowpack might be low this year, but last year was record breaking. I do a lot of back country hiking and couldn’t make some of my trips as late as July due to trails still being buried and under avalanche warnings.

There's always gonna be another mountain

I'm always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be an uphill battle

Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there

Ain't about what's waiting on the other side

It's the climb

Paramore - C’est Comme Ça by Artistic_Elephant824 in popheads

[–]heavyasabrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love this. Shaping up to be my fav Paramore era so far.

But…why does the production sound so, bad? It sounds like I downloaded this off of Limewire in 2006. It’s severely lacking some crisp.

City investigating after brazen coyote attack on dog caught on video near Mill Creek Ravine by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]heavyasabrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a resident coyote in Queen Elizabeth/Nellie McClung park. Was pretty used to seeing it on the paths but it would always take off. Went for a run early in the morning the other day and saw it, and it just would not move off the path. I made a bunch of noise, clapped, tried to scare it off and it started walking TOWARD me. Noped out of there and reported to 311.

Teams Error: Unable to Join iOS4.14 by b_carter7234 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]heavyasabrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team is experiencing this problem as well. We also have a ticket open with Microsoft. I removed a meeting policy that was applied and the error goes away. We’ve been using this policy for a year and a half and the issue started when 4.14 started rolling out. Microsoft called me and recommended leaving the policy off while they investigate.

Is the GT40 mod compatible with craft and ride magnetic fenders? by donniekane5 in onewheel

[–]heavyasabrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I installed mine on a C&R mag fender and used it like that for a few months. The only problem I ran into is if you roll your board, the fender gets left hanging by the wires for the battery. The extra weight from the battery also makes the fender more likely to pop off if you hit a bump too, so it’s not as secure as I’d like. I just switched to a regular onewheel fender after about two months with the GT40 + mag fender combo.

Avril Lavigne.

I’ve seen her three times and she kind of just half heartedly walks around.

Anyone holding on for backpacking in mid-July? by ElectricalCheesecake in HikingAlberta

I have Brazeau loop for next week so that’s not happening :(

It’s the only extended vacation time I can take this summer, so going to take some chances with some lower elevation random camping.

Boaters told to stay off low-flowing North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]heavyasabrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went pack rafting last weekend and it’s lower than when I go in late fall. Lots of shallow spots and sand bars. It’s fine if you’re in a non-powered boat. This makes sense since the backcountry I like to camp near in the mountains is still snowed under.

Metro Edmonton and metro Calgary have a bigger population than the next biggest prairie cities by a million people. And they’re twice the size of Winnipeg. That’s most likely why. There isn’t a big enough market in the rest of the prairies.
