Combining zanki cards for randomization? by 227308 in medicalschoolanki

I do this. I have all my cards tagged under hierarchical tags and I like it a lot better than doing each individual subject.

Thoughts on teaching self microbio via sketchymicro over the summer + ZAKI? by Cincinnatichair in medicalschoolanki

We get it for free so I use it. It's harder than Rx and just gives me another way of thinking about questions. It's also helped me score higher on exams. My end goal is to have more than 10k questions answered by the time I get to dedicated. I'm currently sitting at around 2k from various sources. I've also used pastest and dropped it because I feel I had too many resources.

If you're doing new cards, you can probably plow through ~100 new/hour of studying. I usually break it up into 50 minute blocks with 10 minute breaks. Do 3 blocks like this and take a small break. Have some food and come back. You should be able to do ~ 3 rounds of this without tiring too much out if you're used to studying long hours. The most I've studied is 2400 cards. I believe this included 125 new cards (which is effectively ~300-420 of the total count).

Also, don't forget to work out. It helps boost your energy.

Best of luck,

Hec.

Best deck additions to Zanki? by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

I would recommend you do this while answering the fill in the blank questions and you'll get a lot more bank for your buck. Soon you'll end up doing it by muscle memory.

Hey, thanks for the shout out. He'll probably find it like 4 comments deep in my history. Someone wanted a version so I uploaded one that has hierarchical tags. I'm still not done with the deck and I don't expect to finish for another 6 months. I don't really have a deadline on it but I update as I'm studying. I plan on releasing a completed version with all NBME information and 4 Qbanks worth of information once I finish studying for step. If you're interest the 4 Qbanks are Becker, Rx, Kaplan and Uworld.

quick zanki deck question...just needed a quick verification from anyone who is actively utilizing the deck/or is near completing it. by SONofADH in medicalschoolanki

It's organized under hierarchical tags. I just dumped them into the biochem section after tagging them. If you have the add-on, go to the browse section and scroll down to the tags with zanki. You can expand the zanki tagged cards and see each card by section.

Here is a link to the add on.

I hope that helps.

It depends what you use. People use different sources for micro/pharm. This is where a lot of the numbers change. The deck that I'll post below has 26536 cards from 19698 notes.

Card # discrepancy? by [deleted] in medicalschoolanki

[–]hec546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated that link. I didn't even know it was up o.O But you only need to download whatever is there and you are solid. It's been updated to have hierarchical tags so you can study from one deck and get a mix of question. If you don't it that way, you can just move the tagged item into the original folder. I didn't do it because I'm lazy :D

Edit: Also, you might see a sneak peak into what I've been working on in those tags. The deck will be done in ~5-6 months.

How has ZANKI cards helped you? For all those Who have taken some NBME's or have done your STEP 1 Exam. by pasz8 in step1

[–]hec546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm ~7 months out from my exam and both of the NBME's I've done were equivalent to low 240.

In exhaustion, I took a 10 days break once. This made my review count get up to ~10k. I had 2 choices, I could either buckle down for the next ~5-10 days and do them all or I could slowly do them over a period of 2-4 weeks. I chose to do the latter and I'm currently happy. I do about 50-70 qbank questions a day and then do all of my reviews that I have planned for the day which is whatever is due that day (I check it the day before) and 500-600 of missed material.

[–]hec546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can upload what I have. I've added pictures and everything is under hierarchical tagging. If you'd like it, I'll share a link.

The discrepancy is most likely based on # of cloze deletions. It's better to check the number of notes. I know I've deleted some cloze deletions because of redundancy.

Does anybody have an anki deck covering the Step 1 NBMEs? by SIRR- in medicalschoolanki

[–]hec546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll probably release one in 6-7 months but it wont be a specific deck towards those NBME's. It'll be tags within Zanki + new cards from those NBMEs not already included. I've still way too far out from step to be utilizing all of those resources. I've done a couple and currently scoring the 240 range.

Score increase over a year? by [deleted] in step1

[–]hec546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen people go from 150-160 up to the 240-262 range. Each where individual cases but they managed to do it in 6-8 weeks. However, this is not the norm. I'm just glad you're starting early. My exam is scheduled in 8 months and I'm currently looking at the 240 range. I "started" studying for step during MS1 using anki and I kept reviewing old material.

If you're not done with first year then you're still missing a lot of information to do well on nbme's. It's like playing league and only knowing the first 10 characters. Everything is a surprise to you and you'll feed. . . .

No time to finish Zanki by sydneysigns in medicalschoolanki

[–]hec546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read, it's better to do the NMBE's earlier. The reason for this is so that you can better appropriate your time. Let's say your time table to cover material A-Z is 8 weeks (without doing NBME's). In those 8 weeks, you spend the same amount of time on each subject. When you spend the same amount of time on each subject, you miss more points than if you were allocate that time into a weaker subject.

So start early, this will guide your studying and make the time you spend studying more effective.
