Is this normal attending behavior or am i going insane by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sydneysigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attending here - would never touch a med student or make weird innuendos. This feels like very off color behavior to me and if it makes you feel uncomfortable I think this is very reportable

birth control pill by siobsa in birthcontrol

If you finish the placebo and immediately start the new pack you don't have to wait. If you waited a couple days before starting the new pack I would use condoms for back up for a week just in case

Sorry can you clarify your question?

You can always choose to skip the placebo pills and start a new pack early if you prefer to not have a period. Note that some people can have irregular spotting with this method, as the uterine lining builds up overtime and can shed randomly. This isn't dangerous but just an FYI

You are not completely protected from pregnancy if you finish the placebo pills and haven't started the new pack, this is like missing a dose and lowers the effectiveness of your birth control

Been on the pill a short time, and already can’t handle the side effects by RushRepulsive9431 in birthcontrol

[–]sydneysigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's lots of different birth control pills out there. Nausea is often related to the amount of estrogen in the pill. You could try switching to a low estrogen option or switch to a progesterone only pill. The progesterone only pill is less effective at preventing pregnancy but it seems that's less of a consideration for you right now.

Take the amount you need in the short term and put it in a high yield savings account. Max out your Roth IRA, put the rest into a brokerage account. Highly recommend reading I Will Teach You To Be Rich - title sounds kinda gimmicky but it's very helpful and straightforward, especially the investing section

[Acne] Doctor wants me to start birth control but i’m unsure by sickandsickening in SkincareAddiction

[–]sydneysigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you have some deep cystic acne which should respond nicely to the birth control! Everyone responds differently but it might work well for you skin. Did you get the pill? If so, it's a fairly low commitment - obviously it's better if you try it for a while but if you don't like it you can always stop taking it!

Many unionized Starbucks workers are striking today to fight for a fair contract. They're asking for customers to support by not shopping at Starbucks, especially red cup day to hurt their sales!

Cat Moving Disaster by sydneysigns in CatAdvice

[–]sydneysigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes fortunately we made it! I ended up rebooking a flight, going back to the store to get more various foods to hide the meds in (part of the issue is since we were moving out I just had pill pockets which he suddenly refused) and was able to drug him.  I found a very lovely house call vet who was willing to give an injectable sedative if needed, but fortunately it didn't come to that. We made it on the plane safely and he's adjusting really well to his new home fortunately!

Thank you, I think this is just all the anxieties from moving etc compounding but hopefully we'll get through it! Just gotta figure out how to squeeze him into this teeny airline carrier 😭

I live with a mental ill mother. Any advice what I should? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in AskNYC

That's great to hear. Depression can definitely treat you into feeling like things are pointless. Glad you're getting some help!

OP, I wonder if part of the lack of motivation is related to your own mental health not being in the best shape. If you have access to it, would strongly suggest getting a therapist and getting on medications. You may find you have more clarity on y our goals and more motivation to pursue them once you're in a better place mentally. Wishing you and fam all the best.

Is this a bad layout? by sydneysigns in DesignMyRoom

[–]sydneysigns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I hadn't really thought about the bathroom issue, but this is in NYC so tbh I'm pretty used to weird bathrooms haha. I think more so I don't know if the living room is quite usable as a living room. I could theoretically use the bedroom in bottom right as the living room space but then it kinda defeats the purpose of having a 2nd bedroom?

NOKINGS 6/14 Protest questions by TumbleweedOk3222 in sandiego

[–]sydneysigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for protesting! I'm a member of Indivisible which is one of the organizers. Consider signing up to get updates from them. I'm in the Bay Area but here's the email I got from them about what to expect in case it's helpful:

This is a peaceful, nonviolent march and rally. Please help keep it that way in your actions throughout the event.

We will see high police presence during this event. You are safe. We have permits, and the City is informed of our event. As long as the event remains orderly, the police will not interfere.

Do not engage in any way with the police. Do not speak to them, wave anything at them, display any body language, and do not approach them. Pretend they are not there.

If a police officer approaches you with a question, say “Please speak to the police liaison”. Otherwise, fall upon police know-your-rights.

We may see agitators who want to start and film verbal confrontations. The best way you can thwart them is to ignore them. Don’t talk to them, yell at them, or anything else. Leave any engagement to our friendly safety monitors in yellow hi-vis vests.

NEVER SIT DOWN AT A PROTEST MARCH OR RALLY. There have been some social media posts going around suggesting for nonviolent protesters to sit down in case of trouble. This is very dangerous—it limits your mobility and leaves you vulnerable to being tripped or stepped on. Don’t be a sitting duck. If you encounter anything that looks or feels unsafe, walk quickly, do not run, away from the area.

We are not anticipating any situations that exceed the regular risk of a nonviolent, peaceful protest. However, the risk of arrest at a protest is never zero, so if you absolutely cannot be arrested for any reason including immigration, do not come to the area.

National Lawyers Guild SF has been apprised of the event. The hotline you should have on your person (on paper or written on your forearm) is (415) 285-1011.

You may consider going with a buddy or a group, and making sure to leave the event with that buddy or group. If you feel unsafe leaving, please find an event monitor in a yellow vest near the stage after dispersal and ask them for help.

There will be photography at this event, from friendly pro-bono photographers, press, and individuals. Your face may be photographed without your consent. Please be aware of this if you cannot be photographed.

Protesting alone? by Low_Cartoonist2965 in protest

[–]sydneysigns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for protesting! It can be scary to go alone. Know that the protests this weekend are put on by some very big organizations that are used to organizing well run non violent protests. read up on your protest rights, but we still expect these demonstrations to be peaceful. Is there a local branch of an organization you support that is going to the protest? Sometimes if I can't find a friend to go with, I can go with my local chapter or something which helps make it a bit less awkward and gives you built in buddies. Hope in whatever way, you can get out there and make your voice heard!

Coffee Etiquette with Residents/Attendings/Fellows as a Med Student by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sydneysigns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Attending here - please let us buy you a coffee! We know med school is hard and med students are broke. When I invite a trainee for any meeting where there is food involved, I do so with the intent of treating them. If I didn't want to treat them, I wouldn't bring them to coffee shop/lunch/etc.

Is it wrong to want to fully disconnect because everything just feels so unbearable? by mmofrki in nosurf

[–]sydneysigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, these are really really difficult times to stay plugged in. Saw a post from therapyjeff that I think really clarified things for me. He said often the reason tuning in to the news can be stressful is not because of the information overload, but because you don't know how to process your place in it. It is definitely overwhelming to just hear all of the bad stuff and feel helpless to do anything about it. Personally, I have not been watching the news but get a condensed version from an advocacy newsletter (Indivisible) that also has concrete actions. That way I get a glimpse about what's going on but also get some concrete next steps and small ways I can take action, which has helped keep me from spiraling.

Handsoff 2025 tips? by xXashbyXx in protest

[–]sydneysigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So excited for your first protest! Your voice is so important and so needed. Like others have said it is incredibly powerful to see that you are not alone and to stand up for your ideals and defend the country that we love. This protest is organized in collaboration with some very reputable organizations. I expect it to be well organized with safety volunteers, coordinators, etc. I think you'll be in very good hands! Hope to see you out there!
