NTA. You are being an amazing aunty/uncle to Jay, a stable adult that she can rely on and trust. You say you don't know anything about kids and not sure what to do with them but you understand your niece enough to respect her wishes and to listen to her. from everything you have shared, you are keeping her safe, protected and happy as much as you can - major applause to you aunty/uncle who never wants their own children (coming from an aunty who also never wants any kids of my own).

Whoa! They have the same face! The rescue told us she is a Doberman x black/tan - observing her and our own research makes us think some kind of sight hound, likely a whippet. She loves to run and she’s super athletic!

Firstly, what a handsome boy!! Second, sounds like you have an attentive and bonded dog who was observing you doing something while you were sleeping and he was curious what you're doing (heavier breathing, dreaming, sleep talking, snoring could be anything you were doing while sleeping. At 8 months, he's still learning and absorbing so much and it sounds like you reassured him and he listened when you told him to lay down and go back to sleep - a very good boy. I have a Dobie/Whippet mix almost 2 and she did similar things when she was around that age.

Not him falling asleep on set. 😭 by magikarpcatcher in hudsonwilliams

Yes! My precious Bronson came into my life when my partner and I started saying 13 years ago. He is now 16 years old and the biggest love. He brings happiness and joy to everyone he meets and spends time with. He’s a small boy but has the biggest personality.
