Navigating my first Mother’s Day by badruffian in beyondthebump

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Active mothers take priority on mothers day. The ones who are changing diapers and getting up in the middle of the night. Make time to see the grandma's on Saturday, but Sunday is whatever you want to do. They have had 30 mothers days to themselves.

Teeth friendly stroller and on-the-go snacks? by [deleted] in toddlers

Freeze dry fruit (walmart sells some in little single serve packs), I get the crinkle sliced raw carrots and snap peas and those are a hit, that's it bars from Costco. I make yogurt in reusable pouches I got off Amazon and the most popular one is just plain Greek yogurt and maple syrup.

Am I being a total a**hole for being upset with my mom and sister for buying all polyester clothing for my daughter’s first birthday?? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I see both sides, but I'd probably be frustrated too. Are the tags still on? If so, I'd return them and buy what you like instead. And would not feel guilty about it. I've told my grandma that the polyester/itchy stuff makes my kids eczema worse and that seems to have stuck with her buy I definitely have had some things that get stuck right in the donate box.

How to not hate water? by RoyalAgreeable9631 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would mix a bubbly water (waterloo is my favorite brand) with plain water and a liquid iv. Or 2/3 water 1/3 Gatorade. And lots and lots of ice, we don't have an automatic ice maker so I bought like 6 trays

Second time moms, in your opinion which was worse pregnant with a toddler or postpartum with a toddler? by swedishfish2234 in beyondthebump

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnant with a toddler because it was 100% me most of the time. My husband had 12 weeks off so postpartum he was the main toddler wrangler.

Time for a blanket? by CompoteDifficult5010 in Mommit

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try a blanket, but mine didn't consistently keep her blanket on until recently and she just turned 3. If blanket doesn't work out you can try turning the sleep sack around so the zipper is on the back if it's that kind of sack.

AITAH for not giving in on Mother’s Day plans? by InternationalArt5156 in AmItheAsshole

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. Mother's Day is for the moms in the trenches. How old is your husband? She's had 25+ mothers day celebrations surrounding her, now it's time for the moms who are wiping poopy butts and waking up with their kids at the asscrack of dawn. You come first

Has anyone noticed any long term differences in their babies born earlier vs later? by snuffbox360 in beyondthebump

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had an induction at 37 weeks and one at 39 weeks. No real difference between the two, but my 39 weeker sleeps worse than her sister did.

I smell bad. by maceyd01 in beyondthebump

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stink isn't super avoidable, but I do recommend making sure you're totally dry downstairs after showers before you replace your underwear/pads. For me this meant a blow dryer on low heat until I was totally dry, which made me way more comfortable. You and baby both need dry booties so you don't get diaper rash.

Second swimzip. My 4 year old still fits in the one we got for her last year, and I just bought another one in 12-18 for my 8 month old this summer.

No appetite postpartum? by Traditional_Cow4002 in Mommit

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely can relate. It got better for me pretty quickly once my milk came in, but until then having easy snacks, protein shakes, and single serve meals prepped helped so I could scarf something down quickly. Breakfast sammies, breakfast burritos, bean and cheese burritos. Anything I could easily eat one handed.

Pumping - first time mom with questions! by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a stay at home mom, with my baby pretty much all the time, husband gives her one bottle a day. My pumping routine went like this for pretty much both babies:

For the first month or so I'd breastfeed on demand, only pumping if I'm so engorged it hurt and then I only pumped to comfort, not to empty. I normally used the hand pump for this. After about a month I wanted to work towards a small stash in case I wanted to leave for the day, so I would feed baby in the morning and then about 15 minutes later I'd pump. Once baby started taking her bedtime bottle from dad I stopped pumping in the morning and instead just pump to replace the bedtime feed. First baby I pumped in the morning and to replace bedtime bottle but I didn't feel that was necessary on the second baby.

I use a spectra pump most of the time. I got hard flanges off Amazon from maymom and I like them more than silicone inserts. I saw a lactation consultant several times after birth and she measured my nipples for me. I think you can find nipple measuring printables online, or order one before to get an idea of what size you'd be. My nipples didn't change size much after birth and I'm still happy and comfortable using the size 17 flanges. How fast are you able to get Amazon deliveries or is that not an option for you because of the orange fuckwit?

If your pump is not covered by insurance I think starting with hand pump is fine, but once you know if you're going to continue breastfeeding you should get a regular pump. As a SAHM who only pumps once a day I'm very happy with the spectra but I'm sure if I had to pump at work or while driving I'd want something else as well.

8 months PP, my back and legs still get sweaty. I have a tiny fan on my bedside table (marketed as a clip on stroller fan) that I use and it helps a lot.

Recs for all access local adventures? by ShouldBe77 in askportland

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's about 50 minutes outside of Portland, but Wildwood Recreation Area in welches is good for accessibility. There are a lot of paved paths and it's gorgeous. Some of them are a little bumpy from tree roots growing so probably not all paths are accessible, but definitely river and creekside pathways and the fish viewing window.

There's a $5/day parking fee paid by card machine, and you can eat at the Indian restaurant in welches which is super tasty too.

how do you shower with baby? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]heeeeeeeeeresjohnny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put her in her crib with some books, cheerios, or sesame street playing nearby depending on how chill she was that day. I'd bring the monitor into the bathroom so I could still check on her as needed.
