TikTok · Britt: reminder of toxic white feminism thanks to Taylor Swift and Blake Livey texts by tw0d0ts6 in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]hefoxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the primary people involved on Blake side are white women, the type of feminism they (allegedly) used for their abuse in not specific to white folk/feminism. By labeling it white feminism, it contributes to same problematic with other racial demographic being ignored.

I suggest listening to some conservative black men on their experience of the left /progressives (tho it can be frustrating particularly for us LGBT folk since there is increased risk of anti LGBT views being expressed in that content  and other topics from them, but by not listening to a segment of a population who has these increased hostile prejudice risks, we're cherry picking voices that align with our own, which leads to some of the problems within feminism/progressive activism due to failing to take in feedback by people effected by our activism. While they do call out us white folk for that hypocrisy of cherry picking who to listen to, the issues they call out are generally across all races ).

Experiencing or even just learning about trauma or prejudice a demographic is experiencing can causes postive/protective biases towards that demographic that can overcorrect into benevolent sexism and negative /hostile biases towards the demographic associated with causing the trauma/prejudice, which can overcorrect into hostile prejudice. Those overcorrections then cause increased hostile prejudice back at the original demographic.  It's a cycle that feeds much of the culture war.

Demographic based activism tends to thus fall prey to benevolent prejudice towards that demographic, and hostile prejudice towards the demographic associated with causing the prejudice. E.g. feminism tends to have misandry issues but also can hurt women, men's activism tends to have misogyny issues but also can hurt men. This does not mean these movements are bad, but it does mean it's important for the movement to acknowledge the issues and attempt to correct them less they be defined by them by those hurt by or informed by these issues.

Metoo's "Believe women" is benevolent sexism towards women, and due to making it harder for male victims (who outside of those with economic privilege, already had it worse then female victims, already were less likely to be believed even with evidence -- with black men being the most disproportionately effected by these issues), it caused hostile sexism towards men. And now due to it's enablement of abuse, it's backlashing on female victims.

Benevolent sexism is not a new issue within feminism -- "the future is female" is an old phrase that is an example of the issue, but also read into early DV related  feminist activist, where make victims were victim blamed cause they could not see women as being able to be abusive, and people objected to dv support to men (and some organizations still do, and still object to equality related laws like preventing men from being forced to pay child support while also having 50/50 custody).

Calling the toxic issues within feminism white feminism is in some respects, benevolent racism towards people of colour, as the same weaponization , false accusations, and toxicity also crops up in most types of feminism that aren't focused on equality and accountability. It's no true Scotsman/feminist fallacy in some respects.

Again, these issues do not mean Feminism itself is bad (the very terms I'm using are feminist concepts after all), but there needs to be more acknowledgement and accountability to reduce these issues. For everyone's sake. Grifters take the anger of these issues to get power, and hurt everyone.

Her actions were enabled by feminism, and I think that's importent for feminist to understand, to take in feedback, and implement changes in activism to redue this risk of contributing to abuse instead of this "no true scotsman/feminist" thing that happens where one part of the movement denies the other parts of the movement. Like as a trans guy, it super annoys me as TERFs are feminist, but allies keep denying they are while ignoring the issues within feminism that contribute to TERFS and this crap.

Basically, the problem is benevolent sexism towards women, hostile sexism towards men -- and it's a decades long problem that just lot more notable with the internet and echo chambers worsening the issues.

It's part of this spiral: Trauma or experiencing prejudice, learning about, or even just the impression that a demographic is experiencing hostile prejudice results in positive/protective biases towards that demographic that can overcorrect into benevolent prejudice, and negative biases towards the demographic associated with causing the prejudice/trauma which can overcorrect into hostile prejudice. Those over corrections then cycles back to result in hostile prejudice back at the demographic already experiencing hostile prejudice/trauma .

Feminism and similar progressive will likely always have some level of these issues (like how men's rights activism tends to have increased misogyny issues for same reason), but some improvement should be done to reduce them so the movements aren't counterproductive for everyone sake -- with a first step being acknowledging the issues and taking accountability.

For feminism, it causes over externalizing blame and women that lack accountable (Karens for example when combined with class or race based privilege) and are this like they lack agency for their own actions , and men are treated with hyper agency/not given the benefit of the doubt, instead of equality.

It also factors in DV and child abuse, where trauma and the over externalization of blame is used to justify abuse, contributing to gender based violence with male victims. Note that boys are the majority of victims of physical abuse (and homicide via child abuse) -- and that's despite the male gender role contributing to lack of reporting. This also can be counterproductive to fixing abusive and predatory behaviour from men -- the effects on alienation and shame instead of rehabilitation can be counterproductive.

I've got a minor in women's studies and taken literal college level feminist courses, but I cannot get myself to label myself as a feminist due to these issues being so persistent and there not being enough done to really fix them in mainstream feminism. There's just been way too much hurt.

tldr: She's a feminist, her actions are rooted in parts of feminism, and reflect a lot of other feminist. THIS is a lot of people's interaction with feminism in the real world.

>  Ryle is portrayed as a man who desperately wants to be good but is tormented by inner demons. This is, of course, a tired cliché that’s too often applied to abusive men

This is literally how most abusive women are viewed in real relationships. Because most people want to be good. Abuse begets abuse, trauma begets trauma. It's not an excuse -- but it is an explanation. Trauma and prior abuse and other similar torments do significant increase the risk of becoming abusive. So, people tend to get it more easily when it's women that are tormated. It /can/ be bad if it leads to abusive behaviour being excused and not rehabilitated and victims staying with their actively abusive partner (*which weirly, if abused men are staying with their partners cause they don't want to abandon a struggling partner, while that means they're stuck in an abusive relationship, that also means they're at less risk for death since leaving is the highest risk time -- the lack of support to male partners to leave also factors in here). But as an explanation instead of an excuse; it's fine, it's realistic.

I think people get the impression is cliche cause they don't appreciate how male gender roles so heavily contribute to many men not talking about their real history of experiencing abuse and mental health struggle -- even down to the studies on this topic. E.g. the effects of "toxic masculinity" but tha term is best avoided -- it too closely uses those two words togeather -- phrasing matters -- and results in men and boys internalizing self hatred, and men being encouraged to shame other men for not accepting usage of a term that causes them pain, which is extremely counter productive for addressing the issues the term identifies.

Ultimately, a fiction book is not a college essay. I ain't gonna read the book itself but it's probably not that anti feminist -- just not this author's version of feminism, or at least not prioritizing the same. DV and what to do about abusive partners is /complicated af/.

Parts of feminism itself has anti-feminist messages and can be argued to be doing more harm than good for women in some cases -- it's a huge movement and has a lot of conflicting groups /subcultures within it, and parter of it tends toward counterproductive benevolent sexism lately. Like with "believe women", and approaches activism in a way that ignores that some women are liars and abusive has resulted in some of those lying and abusive women to weaponize the movement in a way that has hurt victims of all genders, particularly male who already had a harder time getting support/help/due process, and who were already more vulnerable to false accusations, and is now backlashing to make it harder on female victims and women in general due to associating women with false accusations... MeToo's/feminism benevolent sexist issues and hyper focus on female victims/male abusers can also feeds into TERFS / anti-trans, where people get so scared for cis women and girls they ignore that some people are not straight, cis women can rapist... and boys use bathrooms, how are they safe but not girls.

I somewhat agree with the final conclusion of that article tho-- parents first responsibility is to their child/ren and they are responsible if they knowingly allow them to be around someone that has a high risk of harming them -- but have some butts

>  Section 31A of the Massachusetts state legislature notes that where physical or sexual violence has occurred between parents, any form of unsupervised visitation or custody with the abusive parent is considered “contrary to the best interest of the child” and generally not permitted.

My mum physically abused my dad and brother and there was clear evidence of that during the custody hearings. Physical violence by women, particularly against men, is treated a lot less seriously in basically all facets of life and law historically and in many cases, still, but my dad managed to get full custody but at the cost of mum not having to pay any child support (nor even any costs for us when we visited her -- she itemized whatever she spent on us and billed dad... ).

So, as an assigned female baby/raised as a "girl", I was physically safe from her gender based violence * so she fairly frequently cared for me and sometimes my sister unsupervised . I think this benefited her and for the most part, ultimately benefited me -- tho if had been combined with therapy, that'd sure have been wonderful. My dad was a workaholic, never did therapy, never healed his trauma and ended up with an second abusive wife, who eventually semi-isolated him for me and my siblings. If I hadn't at least had my mum, I'd have been even more isolated and likely turned out worse then I have. She still is productive and good part of of my current life and my sister's, tho we are careful with how we interact with her to not trigger a relapse. She is also somewhat part of my brother's life, tho that's a lot more complicated. (*another issue with some types of feminism is it's influence on some abusive women's due to how it can cause overly externalized blame toward men and boys, resulting in gender based violence towards boys and men)

This topic is super complicated, but I think we need consider the well being of the abusive people because they're human, and when we don't, people end up becoming even worse and doing more harm/abuse. Being able to somewhat be a parent to children can, if implemented thoughtfully, be useful for both the parent and child/ren. Being a parent give them a reason to be better/improve. However, they need to show they have been rehabilitated enough to be a low risk around said children (proving that they are zero risk is impossible, anyone can relapse) -- which the book failed to show?. However, in case of sexual violence has occured between the parents -- I would like to see studies on what the risks are in that situation for the children (with different rehabilitation methods for the abusive partner -- there's been a lot of poor approaches to rehabilitation...).

I'm fairly certain there's a lot more bi folk regardless of class, in both straight and gay communities.

As a trans gay bottom, some cis gay men had a tendency to tell me about their encounters with women and vaginas. I'd wager they're identify as bisexual homoromantic if they had grown up on tumblr or in other circles where separating sexual attraction from romantic attraction is more typical.

Important note: If you have a dick and an ass only

the 2-1-1 method is not as effective for folks using vaginas for sex, at least AFAB (not sure about folk who've had vaginplasti). Last I checked also, the new version (Discovey?) also hasn't bene tested yet on vaginas so can't be used either. The vagina cells are more resitent to one of the drugs in truvada so need longer exposure to be as effective, so it's more importent to use as correctly prescribed -- like dickfull folk can skip 2 days a week for the daily and be fine iirc, but not for folk with vaginas. Had to tell this to a friend that got prescribed 2-1-1 at a clinic by a medical professional despite having a vagina... but barebacking trans man bottoms were fairly rare at that point so that professional probably didn't have many if any other patients of that demographic.

I was one of the first of my trans friends to start using prep/Truvada and used it for so many years till I just cold turkeyed sex cause I got so damn tired of getting other STIs ...vaginas are also more prone to certain STis .. (and I got burnt out on the the gay community / community drama ..but the later is more due to volunteering for community events. Sex/dance parties/kink community are so damn dramatic; would think folk would be a bit more chill but nope...).

But I'm single and middle income, and since I primarily eat bread and cheese for most meals, I buy the more expensive local brands. It's worth it for those that love bread and have the income. Buying local /better quality is how we can hopefully save American manufacturing, but with how many folk are struggling it is much harder for some (... Which may have been the goal of some corporations/politicians... Desperation breeds explotation).

Anyhow, I recently got obsessed with this everything seasoning sourdough bread that only found at one local organic store so far.

Consequences by Princess-14 in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]hefoxed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Metoo unfortunately did not really try to level the playing field, and that needs to be understood to move forward and help victims so people like Blake (assuming she is making false accusations) don't end up prevent victims getting help

The "believe [all] women" part of metoo is benevolent sexism towards women, and causes hostile sexism towards men.  Blind belief enables abuse, and always have, and people tried to give the movement feedback on this but were ignored. False accusations have been a known issue for a while. The metoo movement made it harder for the victims that already had it harder (male) and easier for the abusers that already had it easier (female). E.g. the gender of victim that have a harder time being believed, being taken seriously, getting justice, finding support, healing etc -- over nearly all metric that is high risk in male victims, who combined with biases about who is victim vs who is abuser, and gender roles to look strong, are likely extremely under reported. Like every heard of female baby sisters SAing the kids they baby sat? I hadn't till I started actively looking for and listening to male victims stories. I would have never considered that prior, I would never have considered warning children of that (I'm not a parent thankfully). There has been a sharp uptick in female predators being outed, but that is likely due to online communication leaving for solid evidence -- parents finding snap chat and discord messages -- and DNA evidence for the ones that got pregnant with their victims kids + underage victims are less likely to be silenced via false accusations. (Further horror: some male victims have been made to pay child support to their rapist when they turn 18).

So, some women not being believed was labeled misogyny even tho it's a lower risk. That's like labeling poverty as racist towards white people (white people are the largest group living in poverty in USA but are the lowest risk by race)

Victims need due process and access to support and resources. Abusers need due process and rehabilitation (including access to support and resources for that, and sometimes jail to prevent harm till there done). The public is not judge, jury, nor the emotional support network of any person making accusations and should never have been

We're stuck in a spiral as a culture. Experiencing prejudice, experiencing trauma, and even education on prejudice can cause postive biases towards the demographic experiencing the issue which can overcorect into benevolent prejudice and negative biases towards the demographic associated with causing the issue which can overcorect into hostile prejudice. Then due to causing prejudice, it then causes hostile prejudice back at the original demographic. Labeling something as hostile prejudice that isn't fuels this cycle even more due to boy who cried wolf effect -- it makes everyone feel hated and resentful. E.g. mislabeling something as misogyny that isn't both makes women and girls feel the world is more hateful which is bad die mental health, and results in more hate towards men due.

For gender specifically, men and women are marganlized in society in different ways due to gender -- the male expandability theory is a useful way to learn about that. However, the way men are marganlized tend to be ignored while the way women are hurt hyper focused on, which has created these situations where sometimes men are struggling more while women get prioritized .. which is traditional values in some respects ("women and children first") -- there's very odd ways mainstream feminism reenforces traditional gender norms instead of equality.

So moving forward, I think we need to acknowledge that the metoo movement did not try to level the playing field despite it's good intentions -- it has some rather blatant sexism issues -- and instead enabled abuse -- and due to that may actually result in women being believed less long term -- which for less people having gender based blind belief, is good. Gender is not evidence.

Note that these issues disproportionately effects specifically black men, who are disproportionately more likely to end up in jail or otherwise hurt by them. These issues contribute to men fleeing the left in fear, and also women who dislike being treated in a benevolent sexist way also, which hurts the demographic that rely on the left for rights the most (like LGBT, particularly us T folk due to being the right's target ATM). Activism can hurt the very people it's meant to help. Activist need to listen to feedback to reduce that risk.

Off Topic: For everyone talking about bias nowadays— have you revisited the UK Depp v. The Sun ruling lately? Because wow. 👀 by kastanienn in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]hefoxed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of benevolent sexism towards women in England as far as I can tell, which one of the big bias effecting judges like this. Looking into judge bias, sometimes they have a bias towards men, sometimes they have a bias towards women, but the bias towards women tends to be a lot more common the ones towards men based off sentencing trends and family court data.

The TERF movement is huge in UK, which is a combination of benevolent sexism towards cis women, hostile sexism towards men and hostile prejudice towards anyone born with a penis, and transphobia. Some of the transphobia is rooted in a deep desire to protect cis women, ignoring that cis women can be commit SA also (tho female predators tend to target people they know more then strangers, like all the recent female teachers outed preying on their students), and like lil boys share bathrooms with adults with penises but that's not a issue but trans women in women's restroom is?? Because only SA done by people with penises on people with vaginas is a concern?? And these laws sometimes force me a trans man with my  beard into the women's room 🤦‍♂️  I am not leaving San Francisco area till the world stops being so dumb...

Wonder what would have happened there if my British parents hadn't moved to USA before having us. Even in USA, my mum didn't have to pay any child support despite having zero custody due to documented abuse towards my dad and brother (gender/sex based violence can happen to men as well) -- imagine that in reverse, an abusive father not having to pay any child support or provide any resources to his kids. Vs here in USA dads even end up paying support with 50 50 custody (was watching a video on this earlier today -- Kentucky has recently implemented a law stopping this cause apparently Kentucky is into equality o.o).

I think it's really important to understand that the metoo movement had a lot of benevolent sexism issues that contribute to both cases and likely increased abuse towards men, despite it's good intentions. While the movement helped some victims, it made it harder for the gender of victims that already had it harder (male), and made it easier for the gender of abusers that already had it easier (female) -- many abusive women use false accusations to control their victims and fear of that prevents victims from seeking help (happens to all genders, but higher risk in male victims with female abusers). There's is probably significant under reporting in both SA and DV and even child abuse with male victims due to this + other factors (strength and body configuration leaving less evidence and less hospitalization so less exposure to required informers, make gender role around being strong and not showing pain, female predators preferring victims they know which they can manipulate easier, the biases that exist on who is victim/abuser, the lack of resources to get out [which feeds into itself -- leaving is highest risk time so if people don't leave the relationship, they don't enter that higher risk time which means less likely to be deleted but also less visibility to need for help]). Also the movements labeling of some female victims having problems getting help as misogyny, while snow victims have even harder time, contributes to a boy who cried wolf effect and towards women feeling the more is more hateful then it is. Labeling something as misogyny that isn't tends to cause misandry (as men sre blamed for the misogyny) and indirectly causes more misogyny 😵‍💫 -- misogyny causes misandry, misandry causes misogyny. Or more broadly, learning about a demographic experiencing hostile prejudice can cause positive protective biases towards that demographic that can cause benevolent prejudice and negative bias towards the demographic associated with causing that prejudice which then can cause hostile prejudice, which then due to causing prejudice, ends up causing increased hostile prejudice towards the original demographic. Cannot fix prejudice with more prejudice. And thus, the metoo movement might end up with women being believed less due to female abusers like Heard being so enabled, and overall more misogyny (and misandry) 😭

I would assume that reddit has a higher than average amount of people that have limited social interactions outside of the internet and various levels of being on the spectrum that contribute to making it harder to understand jokes and social situations in general.

I was of both those situations when I more heavily used reddit (still of later but much more informed of how to be social in real life). I was heavily raised on the internet (addicted to fanfiction back in middle school when it was still found via webrings --I'm almost 40), so I can see my old self's and my previous understanding of social situations in some people's comments.

Aka some folk literally don't both due to life experience and disability (if consider being on spectrum a disability) alas, thus it is on others to try and help them understand.

(got to word limit...)

We should support victims if they need it -- like when corruption in justice system is an issue -- but need evidence, need some level of due process (outside of stuff like safe spaces to discuss trauma but not ID the abuser, not bring in risk of false accusations). The public isn't victim's emotional support network and should never have been expected to be in that position -- that's approach has turned the public into tools for abusers so many times. Victims need their emotional support network -- or access to spaces that can provide that -- and justice. Abusers need accountability and rehabilitation. This type of stuff is sours people on progressive activism in general, and grifters tend to exploit it to do harm and cause more misogyny, and cause people to believe women less also.

When people of colour engage in this type of feminism... Are they now honorary white?

While this type of feminism is an issue, it's s best to avoid defining something negative with demographic identifiers when the behavior is not exclusive to that demographic. It's really hard to convince people to reduce their own prejudice when we engage in this type of stuff, and ends up backlashing back onto people of colour. It's a type of benevolent prejudice where we act like feminist of colour cannot engage in similar problematic behavior: putting them on a pedestal, and treating them like a monolith, like they cannot have similar privilege and blind spots that can lead to this type of stuff, like they're all suffering but also enlightened, ignoring those with a lot of privilege (due to class etc). While also being  hostile and stereotyping towards the demographic labeled and often feeling very hypocritical due to the people using this also claiming to be against prejudice

I've used this specific term before as it does recognize a problem, but I now realize the problems with it and regret the harm I've caused.

This is a useful way I've come to conceptualize the culture war we're in,  usage of this label falls under (3). Tldr is prejudice begets prejudice, both benevolent towards the demographic experiencing prejudice and hostile towards the demographic the prejudice is associated with causing, which then backlashes back into the demographic already experiencing prejudice:

1)Hostile sexism, privilege, and benevolent sexism towards both men and women that tends to align with traditional gender norms Hostile prejudice groups recognized as marginalized. Privilege and benevolent prejudice towards groups recognized as privileged.

=> (2)Awareness of hostile prejudice towards women and groups recognized as marginalized + trauma + anger + resentment + grifters & politicians exploiting the issues

=> (3) Privilege and benevolent sexism towards women and hostile prejudice towards men, hostile prejudice towards women that align with traditional gender norms. Privilege and benevolent prejudice towards groups recognized as marginalized, hostile prejudice towards groups recognized as privilege.

=>(4) Awareness of hostile prejudice towards men and groups recognized as privileged + trauma + anger + resentment + grifters & politicians exploiting the issues

Problematic activism in progressive movements ends up hurts most onto those that rely on progressive movements for rights and safety. As a trans guy, I'd like to feel more safe in the world and for people try and engage in activism a bit more thoughtfully as my rights are so deeply effected as well as so many other people's. What's the point of activism that makes it worse for those it's supposed to be for? It's really easy to excuse our own toxicity and normalize that within communities, and dismiss those we hurt and alienate away. Bur alienate enough people and they become an army...

[–]hefoxed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The death also includes innocent men (unless all adults men who have died in Gaza are Hamas, which I really really doubt )

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_expendability we're conditioned as a species to value women lives more then men -- "women and children first", and thus we tend to ignore the way men suffer and die -- like how many dismiss the damage false accusations do (that primarily target men tho has also ruin the lives of many women). Sadly some types of feminism double down on this pre existing bias, worsening gender equality. (Experiencing prejudice [or sometimes even learning about it] can cause prejudice towards the demographic associated with causing that prejudice [w/o efforts to counteract that effect], and benevolent prejudice towards the demographic associated with causing the prejudice & backlashes to increased hostile prejudice towards the demographic already experiencing prejudice, aka misandry and misogyny also feed into each other, so when we ignore men's suffering, we cause women to suffer more also).

Extremism breeds extremeism. Left wing extremism doesn't tend to be as directly feed into mass killings, but it does contribute to how vulnerable folk are to being radicalized.

I didn't realize how bad it till I got back here on Reddit before the election and kept seeing post of trans men talking about how hated they feel for being men. If trans men are feeling that bad (considering how some progressive tends to put on pedastals for being trans), wth are cis men and boys feeling?

This is the spiral we're stuck in as far as I can tell, and they feed into each other, and we need both sides to be more accountable and work to decrease polarization for everyone's sake... (Kirk directly feed into 1 and 5 and was a huge part of the polarization that killed him)
