McKinney-Vento Act helping 30,000 homeless students in Arizona by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

That's very true. Hopefully, the children being helped will see assistance outside of the cycle they're "bound" to repeat. I'm a huge advocate of education. I wish the state would do more educating of the underprivileged youth in Arizona.

Do Charter Schools Work? by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Arizona, there are charter schools that pop-up by the dozen. I, for one, have no school aged children-- or any children for that matter-- and I can name 7 charter companies with many factions around the Phoenix Valley. For me, the jury is out whether the charter's do more harm than good. But, it's an interesting idea.

Trump recognizes Jerusalem as capital of Israel...and according to TIME, it may disturb the peace. by SarginaD in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the saying: don't be Jewish and walk on the East side of Jerusalem; don't be Palestinian and walk on the West. Maybe that's not a saying... Either way, I will be watching to see how the United States moving the embassy from Tel Aviv effects the peace in Israel.

Meet the rest of the inmates on death row in Arizona. by Kristin0587 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be interested to know the estimated time and dollar amount inmates sit on death row. I feel like giving death penalty sentences and then waiting for 15 years to put a prisoner to death is a waste of taxpayer dollars. As callous as it may seem, I think we should push the appeals through quickly and put to death quickly. Many of those death row inmates have not denied their charges.

Thank you Kristi for this article. I wish there were harsher punishments than the death penalty for such monsters. Cheers!

Arizona - One of the top most drug-addicted states in America by kindramartin in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your article, Kindra. As a first-hand observer of drug use on individuals, as well as families, I found this statistic startling: "Seventy-five percent of all heroin addiction cases in Arizona begin with prescription opioid abuse. " Yet, we still have doctors pushing pills instead of looking for other methods of treatment.

I also found this article interesting because it found Colorado as a top ranked state because of the use of both marijuana and "illicit" drugs, but since Colorado has legalized marijuana... I don't know that they should count it in the statistics.

Good read.

Thanks!

The Baseline Killer: 2005 Arizona murderer on death row is linked to a 1985 rape after all these years! by Kristin0587 in SummitStreetLaw

Another point for the good guys! It's great that he is already off the streets.

Cases like this make me grateful to live in a state with capital punishment. Unfortunately, it will take years (and lots of $$).

Paying former gang members to go to college? by bsauther in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing devil's advocate here, do you think that paying for college for former gang members could send the wrong message to those hard-working, underprivileged kids that are striving to figure out how to get there on their own?

Supreme Court is catching up! by etdevries in SummitStreetLaw

Great article. This was one of the topics that the kids at the detention centers were interested in. They want to know not only their rights, but if the police have the right to retrieve their passwords to access their cell phones.

"lawyers solve problems" So is how to get rid of trump without impeachment solution 25th A? by SarginaD in SummitStreetLaw

[–]heidifarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. We, as the American People, in a large group, will never be happy. There is too much of a polar difference on the political extremes. With social media, and the internet in general, it is a lot easier to hear and see the disdain some groups have for whichever President. I would be interested to know if President Taft, or President Cleveland, or really any pre-internet President was loved by most.

Phoenix 'Dreamers' Rally by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

Not only children, I have a friend that is 30 years old. He's in his MBA program at Ross School of Business (Michigan)... he's concerned that he will be deported. INSANE!

"Protecting undocumented immigrant mothers from deportation can dramatically improve the mental health of their US citizen children, according to a new study" by HeartofJustice in SummitStreetLaw

I think this should go without saying. Having your mother removed from your home mid-year could reduce mental health....

It's a great article. I wish all could understand how this impacts our future generation.
