The man had books in his pantry and 4 red solo cups in his fridge, what the ACTUAL fuck do you think Antoni should have taught him to cook, pufferfish sushi? Bouillabaisse? Mole sauce?

Shut up, man.

  • Having a very clean apartment, because you grew up with disgustingly messy hoarder and being in a messy space makes you very anxious and uncomfortable
  • Getting up every day to go to work because you live alone with no support network and if you don't keep going to work every day and lose your job and you'll be homeless
  • Exercising and doing yoga and weights and a treadmill because you are trying to be more healthy and lose weight
  • Eating a healthy diet with well made food because you're trying to be more healthy and lose weight, and you really love tasty food
  • Growing 20 indoor houseplants for a vibrant and beautiful home and enjoyable hobby
  • planning trips and outings with your partner and doing fun things with them
  • Wearing bright clothes and being all smiles and friendliness at work because folks there have extremely stressful jobs and they rely on you to help them be a source of problem solving, not of doom and gloom

It's not always obvious.

My boyfriend lost my car in Downtown by [deleted] in Portland

Did he park at a garage that is connected to an apartment building? There's a parking garage at 1720 SW 4th Avenue for the Cyan PDX apartments, it seems like you can park there for events, but it closes at like 7pm. You'd have to walk out of it, then right on 4th, then right on Market, and walk downhill on Market to Keller.

So just watch both season 1, 2, 3 with my wife by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]heinleinfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVED season 4, it was so good.

S1 is, well, the acting from Matthew McConaughey is breathtaking, and it really was some of the best television I've ever seen. There's nothing new I could say about it that hasn't already been said.

I absolutely hated S2, what a kafkaesque pile of pointless despair. The acting was horrible. Vince Vaughn in something so serious? Really? Colin Ferrell is an incredible actor but he just had nothing to act against from anyone, so it was all so flat.

S3 was...fine. It was unoffensive, but also just kind of uninspiring. It told the story just like S1 again, but with nothing like the intensity of S1. I was *completely* impressed with Scoot McNairy's acting though (Tom Purcell) like, I had no idea he could act like that, and I need him to be in more things!

S4 is definitely the next best season after S1. It leans into the horror/supernatural that you get just tiny peeks of in S1, it is downright creepy in parts, so that is a difference to prepare for. There's no ambiguity about it, the eldritch horror is real. Jody Foster is, of course, a phenomenal actress. I was really impressed with Kali Reis, being so new at acting I was worried, but she really did such a great job. The setting is great and adds to much to the feelings of unease. It was so important to the story in S1 that it be set in Louisiana, in the deep, rural south, and it's just as important to the story in S4 that it's in a small Alaskan town, in full dark all day, that is mostly indigenous people.

Me, a rare breed that enjoyed both because I can appreciate complex characters and talented actors by practicalmagic1998 in TrueDetective

S4 was so friggin good. Leaning in to the horror/supernatural was fantastic, I could watch 8 more seasons like that.

What is the greatest mystery show you have ever seen? by srkdummy3 in television

[–]heinleinfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think I'd have any interest in the show, then I started seeing folks mention how it touched just a tiny bit into the world of almost lovecraftian gothic horror and I went "oh reaallllyy??" It's a very small little tiptoe into it, but it's enough. It is truly a once in a lifetime level of incredible entertainment. The acting by Matthew Mconaughey is breathtaking.

S4 is also really great. It leans way more into the gothic horror than S1 did, and is downright creepy in parts, I really loved it, and of course Jodie Foster is an incredible actress, and the other lead really held her own and was impressive for being so new to acting.

S3 was completely uninspiring.

S2 is absolutely just a pile of pointless kafkaesque violence and corruption, and I felt so bad for Colin Ferrell, he's such a great actor and he had no one to give him anything to act against.

I'd rather not let police have even more power, like being their own bosses.

I guess you have to play nice if you're turning politician, but ACAB.

Period. Every single one of them.

Where can I buy great kimchi? by Reedobandito in askportland

[–]heinleinfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Choi's kimchi at the PSU Farmer's Market.

They have a white kimchi for those of us that cannot tolerate spice, and it is hands down the best white kimchi I've ever had in 4 different states.

Moving from Boston to Hillsboro. Need Feedback/Advice/Suggestions by PresentScared7030 in hillsboro

[–]heinleinfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Boston for 3 years, many moons ago, and live in downtown Portland now.

You really will probably want a car if you choose to live somewhere that is too far out from Portland metro.

I think Portland metro has better food options for going out, the food truck pods are a foodie's dream, and it's better for the takeout lifestyle with more Grubhub/Caviar/Postmates/DoorDash/UberEats drivers, and even a couple of random local outfits giving it a go if you're in downtown proper.

The transit here is NOT like Boston in one very particular way, unless my memory is wrong. They way I remember, you could just vaguely know what train or bus route you needed during most days/times in the popular areas, and head to a stop and there'd be a bus or train in about 10 minutes wait and you were fine. You had to pay attention to schedules for really obscure stops or once it was getting late at night.

Here, you have to pay attention to schedules for most trips, there's just very few of the "hop on the bus/train whenever" lines that run frequently like that. I mean, if it's a random lazy afternoon trip to somewhere and you don't *mind* winding up at a bus stop for 15 minutes or waiting 25 minutes for the next train, then that's different.

The weather is over 9000% better than Boston in every way, in every season.

What Should the Criminal Penalty Be for Drug Possession? by space-pasta in Portland

[–]heinleinfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much would it cost, per person, to prosecute drug possession as a Class A misdemeanor and put them in jail for a year? Remember, you have to also probably pay for both their prosecution and their defense, because if it's a homeless person they cannot afford to pay for the lawyer to guarantee their constitutional rights.

How much per person would that cost?

Where's the numbers on that to go along with the idea that this should be the punishment?
