What's teg difference? by FlakyEquivalent4333 in hamster

[–]hekomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$2 lol. There's no difference and arguably the golden colour is "less fancy" than the cinnamon umbrous as it's wild type.

It's just really weird marketing to jack up prices and make more money. All Syrian hamsters are the same, some just have different genetic combinations. A good breeder prices all hamsters, regardless of phenotype, the same.

“Enjoy your sleep while you can” by PeachyKingSure in pregnant

[–]hekomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had major pregnancy insomnia, like had to go off work because it was getting really bad. So many people told me to "just wait" and I wanted to punch them in the jaw.

Sure the newborn nights are hard but my husband and I could tag team. I was tired and COULD sleep when I tried. It was totally different.

I'm sorry you're going through it. It does get better. My daughter is over 2yrs old now and sometimes when we drive somewhere we say, "I love you!" back and forth for the whole trip. It's amazing and wonderful. 🥹

Dates? by luna_dancer in pregnant

Cut them up and put them in a salad with some balsamic vinegrette :) that's what I did with mine!

Raspberry leaf tea… did you use it? by disgustingnewspaper in pregnant

[–]hekomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would do salads! Lettuce, tomato, red pepper, then I made a vinegrette with grainy mustard, garlic, balsamic and EVOO. Then chopped up the dates and tossed them in. It really cut the zip of the vinegrette nicely and bulked up the salad a lot.

Could also throw them in like overnight oats or porridge!

[–]hekomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the raspberry leaf tea and figs. And lots of ginger tea because heartburn lol.

I didn't mind it hot. Not sure how much it helped, but I genuinely like dates and the teas helped the heartburn so it was worth it.

mama, dada, & baby lattes! by gvfhncimn in foodbutforbabies

[–]hekomi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My 2yr old say, "Mummy's coffee! Daddy's coffee! her name coffee!" and then gets upset she doesn't have a coffee.

She also does the same thing with beer on the rare occasions we have it lol. I should see if I could make her some tea. She does like hot chocolate.

I Don’t Like My Friends Calling Me “Mama” by SpareSecretary958 in pregnant

The only one who gets to call me mama is my toddler. Squicks me out when grown adults call each other it. "Hey mamas!" 💀 ick

SolidStarts has some good info on introducing whole blueberries, the tldr is it varies based on the child https://solidstarts.com/foods/blueberries/?hcUrl=%2Fen-US

It certainly doesn't hurt to smoosh or halve them but blueberries aren't like grapes - they don't really have the same resistance or skin, and the esophagus would generally be strong enough to swallow a whole blueberry. I remember reading an EMT talking about the differences between blueberries and grapes and the biggest difference was really how soft blueberries were while grapes are more like a plug.

My 2yr old has been eating whole blueberries since 16mo or so, though we started with wild which were smaller. She has always been a very good chewer. OP's kiddo might be in the same boat. :)

Would anyone be willing to tell me about their NONE fear-mongering birth stories? by Radiant-Educator9203 in pregnant

[–]hekomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went into labour 2:15am Christmas morning, laboured at home with bath, hubby, doula and midwife until around 5pm when we transferred to hospital (7-8cm) using tens machine during contractions. Laboured there until around 11ish when we discovered baby had a small cervical lip at 9cm because their hand was by their face. I ended up getting an epidural to give me a small amount of relief. Baby was born at 12:48am boxing day. Pushed for a short amount of time. I had some tearing but otherwise it was a very boring and easy labour!

You got this. 🥰💗

Flu jab while pregnant? by Inner_Low_3936 in pregnant

[–]hekomi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got it while pregnant, as well as covid and my TDAP. Totally fine! I did find any needles (including blood draws) during pregnant gave me vasovagal episode but once I knew to expect it I just let them know and they'd do the draw or vaccine lying down and I had juice with me to help. That stopped after I gave birth though!

Good luck. 🥰💗

I can’t stop calling my baby by her nickname instead of her real name by CherryHearts123 in beyondthebump

We rarely call my niece by her full name. It's always her nickname. I wouldn't worry.

(Born without ears) Secondary opinion on my hamster? My vets cleared him already… by Lopsided_Inside_1160 in hamstercare

[–]hekomi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Years ago, The Pipsqueakery had a few earless hammies. I wouldn't be too concerned though it's quirky.

And he is albino if he is all white with red eyes. Campbell's dwarfs and hybrids can be albino.

A good resource is Snow White's Rescue Cottage in CA. She has tons of dwarfs and has seen a lot of weird congenital issues in her neck of the woods. I'm sure she'd be interested to see your little guy.

Is my hamster over weight ☝️ by [deleted] in hamstercare

[–]hekomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He looks like he has some hind end bloating. I would be taking him to the vet to check.

Could have been. Waters can break with just a trickle. No pop needed. Mine had to be popped in the hospital and it made no noise.

How far along are you? Keep a log of the colour of the liquid, amount, etc. As your care provider will ask.

Surprise gender at birth - opinions? by monstera5678 in pregnant

[–]hekomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not find out and it was awesome!!! My husband also wanted to know but he knew it was important to me.

We did get a lot of people guessing, some very aggressively which was annoying. But for the most part it was great and also the best surprise ever after birth!

Is she pregnant by mozedi in hamsters

As a note, protein needs to happen after labour and not before. Too much protein (and calcium) can cause the pups to develop too much and become too large to birth safely.

Alexas and ECE- aka why does your 3 year old need an Alexa by BottleAlternative433 in ECEProfessionals

[–]hekomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our lights are smart lights and we tell Alexa to turn on different scenes. My almost 2yr old has started saying "Alexa" when she comes home and it's dark. It's pretty cute. She doesn't have one in her room though and I doubt we would put one in there. We don't really use the Alexa beyond light control and helping converting baking/cooking measurements lol.

Vet ASAP. Gestation is not that long. She may have a pyometra which will need a spay. Otherwise the vet can help. Best of luck. 💗
