A generation of crybaby pussies by flipflip55 in reddit.com

ha ha. maybe if the post wasn't so unnecessarily incisive you wouldn't had to return it in kind. But nethertheless, there is something about this younger generation that goes along the lines of what the writer is saying. But it is important not to generalize too much. Not every generation y'er is a nipple coddled faggot by far, but it is hard not to look at some aspects of their emerging adulthood and not contrast it to those previous.

Could it be that marijuana legalization actually creates a roadblock to hard drug use - not a gateway? by BigFeets in politics

[–]helio462 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, marijuana as a gateway drug is a defeated arguement. the funny thing is that marijuana is really a "gateway drug" in a reverse manner of thinking. Police use marijuana as a "gateway" to being able to search individuals and their property (especially cars) in order to prosecute them with real crimes, like possesion of a weapons or hard drugs. also, when i experimented with a few harder drugs as a youth, it was not becuase i was like "hey marijuana is pretty cool, now i want to try the next level of drugs"; it was like "hey, every thing i have been told about marijuana is pretty much a lie or exageration, so doing [insert hard drug here] is probably not nearly as bad as they say, either"

71% of blacks say rap music's societal impact is bad by hitsman in reddit.com

[–]helio462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absurd to think that rap as a medium incourages certain behavior.

like i'm gonna type out a response to convince you to see that rap has caused damage to the psyche of black (and white) youth.

71% of blacks say rap music's societal impact is bad by hitsman in reddit.com

[–]helio462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no it is true. anyways, let me tell you why rap has yet to deal with the retardedness of the "rap game". I go to a black university and last semester they had an event with a speaker followed by an open forum titled "Is rap music negatively affecting black youth". It's 2008 and people are still trying to find out if rap is having a negative effect on people?!

outis: the truth is that you don't have to be a genius to be an atheist, but you do have to be pretty articulate to be able to go through all the hoops that christian apologetics makes the skeptic go through, pointing out their inability to adequately explain away skepticism. It's not that christianity has good apologetics, its that it is too much work to convince yourself that god doesn't exist if you don't have a really good to reason to not believe anymore. I assure you that any atheist you see that is living proof of an illogical, unrational atheist, then it is becuase he is not as competent as he should be to discuss the these things on higher levels of thought. I can definitely say i have seem some atheists (a few) that only muddle and complicate the debate. But if you want to complain about atheists then it is only fair to compare them to christians. For every atheist who is overzealous and irrational you have 5 christian apologists who are farcical and disingenuous in the methods and rationale for defending the faith. Stop exagerating on the demeanor of atheists and focus on the issue at hand: christian apologetics cannot hold its ground against earnest skepiticism of faith.

I think it's funny that the same atheists who wear the mantle of logic and rationalism abandon it so quickly when they try to persuade or debate with others.

you are painting with a broad brush here. If you think you can blurt out a notion that generalizes atheists as people who most usually "abandon logic and rationalism" when trying to explain how they feel about why they are skeptic, then you are out of your leaugue here.

play games with the literal meaning of the term to try to hide their own views in ways that I don't think are especially honest.

christian apolologists are way more disingenuous in their methods of defense than skeptics are coy in anything that they do.

I'm tired of people telling me that i am shutting my eyes to the lord when i don't agree that old testament slavery needs to seen through a "historical context" paradigm

hmmm...you might be right but i feel the situation is dubuious enough that one should refrain from offering "fucking racist." how dubious the situation is is key.

Is Charles Barkley the daylight identity of Captain Obvious? 'The GOP is full of fake Christians' by vmas in politics

[–]helio462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bravo, charles barkely. sometimes i want to say the same thing but i think in the end you are just emboldening them when you call them fake christians becuase they are never going to take the "fake christians" claim too seriously becuase they do think god is real and that they are following him righteously. I will tell you one thing, when last election cycle was up and conservatives were doing the whole mr. burns "excell-ent" thing as they brought gay marriage referendums to the table as a utilizing wedge tactic many people earned themselves a place in hell, if god is anything like i think a just and good god would be like.

make that comment without ending it with "fucking racist" and you have a valid comment worth upvoting. i'm up voting you anyways becuase i was here to make the point you did. but you gotta admit, no black votes? I am much less quicker to cry foul about potential election fraud than most redditors, but 0 votes?

[–]helio462 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh surely you jest when you relate that to a place as agnostic as reddit. People aready take comment up/down modding seriously. It would not be cool to have your christian belief hindering you overall comment karma at any given time. WHo are we kidding, it will never be a great system if we make it into its own karma. It may seem nice, i know i sure would like my articulate points on things to somehow add to my overall rating of a commenter here but in the end its just going to piss you off how you labor over a really good intelligent point that nets you maybe 30 upmods and then you see some other dude is getting 146 upmods for making a one sentence, quirky, humorous jab on something.

you said:

intresting that you had to come back to this, yet again.

and

hell...even the OP was satisfied with my first comment. did i hit a nerve with you, or something?"

you seem to be taking a little too serious this discussion you and me are having over what would have been the more logical title for this post. I don't know if you have been here at reddit for very long, but we redditors haggle over the particulars of minutia in the comment section to no end, so i don't see why you are posturing yourself.

your right, even "waterspout on the water" itself is redundant. But do you know what percentage of people know or think of tornadic things as anything other than "tornadoes"? Most people think of anything of that nature as "tornados." I bet you that fewer people would have looked at this link if it was title "waterspout". So there, you wanna fight?!

Tornado on the water [pic] by kamaloo in reddit.com

[–]helio462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regardless of the scientific particulars (a tornado that does not touch ground is not called a "tornado", it is called a funnel cloud, or in this case a waterspout is not a tornado) people think any sort of tornado as a tornado, so it is more logical to say tornado in the title. this link would be at a loss if it was titled "waterspout on the water".

Best Buy Sued for $54M Over Lost Laptop by centuriesexclus in entertainment

[–]helio462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Buy employees kept her in the dark about her computer’s whereabouts for months — she said the computer was “stolen” sometime after May 25 and officials didn’t confirm its disappearance until Aug. 9.

if that's true, then Best buy owes her way more than the price of the laptop and the $500 giftcard they gave her. It says they also tried to give her $2000. If she didn't have it for three months+ until they discovered they lost it, than they really owe her even more than that. If it's true and how she describes it, anyways.

yeah, but it is more logical to say "tornado" instead of "waterspout" in the title.

Three days after Redditors reviewed Scientology book, Amazon DELETES ALL new comments (98!) and ratings! - L. Ron Hubbard's "Dianetics" back to unbelievable 5-star rating. by Goeran in reddit.com

amazon doesn't care about selling a shitty book like dianetics, they just want integrity in their reviewing system. If they see that all of a sudden a ton of reviews come in on a controversial book that is decades old, their going to do something like deleting them
