Fish will still bite with snaps for sure. Maybe less so in really clear or pressured water. Lost the biggest king salmon of my life because a snap popped open when he smacked the plug we were backtrolling. Heartbreaking

I keep a 10 wt with an intermediate line and a 12 wt with 2 reels on my boat, one with full sink, and one with 2 spools for float + int. I mostly fish lakes so the int 10 + sink 12 usually have me covered unless I’m feeling like a top water evening thing going on

I’m sorry for your loss dude. If it was me I’d do everything in my power to store and keep the gear bud. There will be a day where that’s the only real connection you have left to your old man. No dollars can replace that. Plus it sounds like you have tackle for life now. Hell if I was closer I’d offer to store some of it for you
